1. Its prononced as ”kuh-neck-eh -bu-ruhd”
2. Everyone in Sweden is fighting about wether you put butter on the flat side or the uneven side
3. there are different types of knäckebröd (some light, some dark, some with grains on top)
4. It’s very common to it eat for breakfast and most schools have it for students in the lunchroom (usually just with butter)
5. the most common toppings are usually savory (I have never tasted it with anything sweet) butter and cheese, eggs and swedish caviar, cheese and cucumber are popular
6. The ones bought in stores are usually rectangular or large circles (vinyl sized) with a big hole in the middle
this is just some random information if anyone is interested. It’s fun to see people who aren’t from Sweden try to make it! great job julien :)

Storytime: My husband's mother is Swedish and he often talks about visiting his grandparents in Sweden and the huge wood fired stone oven they had in their basement. Once a week, all the ladies in the village would come over and use the oven to bake their hardtack for the week. My husband always talks about how good it is and how disappointed he is that he can't eat it anymore because of his wheat allergy and gluten intolerance.
So, as I was watching this video I thought to myself "hey, this knackerbrod sounds a lot like hardtack". I looked it up and it's the same thing, so we're off to hunt for ingredients because you shared a version of this childhood favorite of his that is actually gluten free!
p.s. I think Pofiber is the same as potato flour, which I've found at bulk food stores in Canada. Just make sure you aren't getting potato starch instead.
Same thing on our Swedish island! We have a bread very specific to this area that only the old lady's know how to bake properly. They do it together, completely by hand of course, in huge wood ovens and it is so delicious!

I'm Swedish and I think there's gluten-free knäckebröd here, maybe you could see if you can find it online or if you visit you could buy some. Here it's widely spread ofc and it's not just made by old ladies - there are a lot of companies who make it.
There's gluten free options pretty much for everything here in Sweden.

It's just a fun and nice thing to do. My family is Muslim but a neighbor gave us some christmas cookies nonetheless and i really appreciate that. Two neighbors have grapes growing and they give my mom the leafs. She makes food with them and in return gifts them some of the food.
I hope that when i move out, i will also do the same with my neighbors

As a dane (we also have "Knækbrød") I think you did really good with all the substitutions you had to make. If you want to try this recipe again, I would recommend making them thinner so they snap(=knæk) more. My mother adds all types of seeds (sunflower, pumpkin and sesame) from the pantry😊

Me, a fan of both Felix and Julien ,with coeliac disease, who told their friend a few days ago how much they miss knäckebröd: .... yeah I don't even know what to say I'm just very satisfied.
Someone should send him some glutenfree Wasa knäckebröd or another brand.
Indeed, he could just ask for that to taste authentic knäckebröd. Then he'd get a better idea of what it should feel and taste like.

@@dragonsrule20201 I've only got some old ones from like cookbooks that my mom uses, but try and google "glutenfria recept" and you might be able to find some that you can translate. We only bake like cinnamon buns, cookies and sometimes bread, everything else we buy at the store.
@@aspannas thank you! There is a local gluten free bread I like but it's almost 5$ for ten slices, and I've yet to find cookies I like so I rely on going homemade for the most part

In Germany we eat Knaekebrot too. I love it so much. You can actually find it in some grocery stores in the USA...I have seen it at Kroger here in Louisville... from the brand "wasa" (which is the brand we eat in Germany the most of )....it really is so yummy

Scandinavian person here, knækbrød is literally soo good I eat it almost everyday, the crunch has to be just right and crumbs fly everywhere when you bite down that's part of the experience

Yeah I know!! People were accusing Felix, and saying Julien shouldn't associate with him, which is really wack, but people forget Julen can make his own choices :3

I feel the opposite. Felix is trash. The negativity on twitter was justified. That said, Julien is a grown up, he can choose who he wants to associate with.
