We have to remember the miserable situation Larian was after the release of Divinity: Dragon Commander. It was not ready but they were forced to release it. That’s a very common story, but Larian decided the only way out of these predicaments is to go their own way. I supported the crowdfunding of Divinity: Original Sin on the basis of that alone. It almost bankrupted them, it could have been a sad tale of a studio going the way of the dodo, but instead we got a huge success story. I think it’s inspiring.
Corporate-owned publishers controlling game development is the biggest problem in video games today.
for me it was larians transparency i had it the week they announced pre release a couple of years ago and you could tell how much they truly cared with their panels from hell and it was a little cheesee but really it was a group of nerdy friends working on a project that they all really cared about
@@ScytheNoire Generally true, but treasure those publishers who actually let developers make good games.
There's a video of Larian's founder talking about some the hard times the company went through in it's early years when the company was so lacking in funds that for a while every employee signed a weekly contract because there was only ever enough money for one week of pay at a time. At some points he had no money himself and couldn't drive back as his car was out of gas and he had to ask his wife to wire him money just to pay for gas to drive home.
Pro tip. Play as a barb and keep dead goblins in your inventory. They can be thrown like other weapons.
My barbarian has a collection of throwable explosive barrels at his disposal 😅
Hell yea. I also got explosives, whole arsenal of weapons to throw, and that specific feat where throwing stuff does extra dmg lmao
Berserker Barbarian is damn fun.
Anyone else find it sad we are so thankful that a game studio is not ripping us off?
No, not really. I've gone past sad about the current state of gaming, I've completely opted out of any AAA studio titles. There has never been a better time to support indie devs. Kenshi 2 is being developed right now, stardew valley has a fuckload of mods, battlebit is awesome. AAA devs aren't game companies anymore. the titles we grew up with we will always have but the studios are dead, everything dies eventually, but new life emerges too, that's life.

BG3 was made by people, not supernatural beings, if Larian can do it so can others.
@@andregon4366 You can't deny the success of this game, no, but you also can't deny that Larian self-publish and had all the time and resources THEY needed to make the game exactly the way they wanted to. Barely any developers nowadays GET that chance. Most AAA games are beholden by publishers/shareholders/investors to make an exact kind of game, and there are different extremes in the west AND in Japan, where the director and producer roles are flipped. Game development is a MASSIVE rabbit hole of intricacies and factors, and it is NOT as simple as "Larian can do it, so can other devs". You can't just have every game be BG3. Literally impossible.
Woke up at 5 AM on Sunday and started playing the game. It was around 10:30 PM I realized what time it was and wondered what the hell happened to time and where it went. Time literally disappeared playing the game. I had to eventually stop to go do a few things before Monday morning at the office. Game is addictive fun and your choices changes a whole lot of stuff in the game in how events play out. Literally your choices changes stuff a lot which is dam cool.
On the other end of it. I just started playing Diablo 4 and it’s such a slog. I think I make it to about 30 minutes before I need to take a break. So many of the mobs are driving me crazy. They really made this game to be anti fun.
I can’t even return the game because I bought it a month ago but my previous computer couldn’t play it.
Larian games are all like that. If you played dos2 you know there is a notoriously long fight that takes about an hour. I went into that slightly under leveled and I didn't have a save point before the fight. I ended up going from 8pm to sunrise (5pm) trying to finish that fight with a positive outcome.
I didn't realize how early/late it was until I saw the light coming through my window.
I just made up an excuse and didn't go to work that day.
Yeah, I did the same on Saturday. Installed it after lunch to see what it was about and the next thing I knew it was 10:30-ish. After watching a few videos of what other players did I totally am playing it all out of "order" but then again there is no order. You just play.
This game plays like a great book. Just one more chapter, just one more chapter. Just one more quest, just one more quest. You sit down at 7pm and decide to play for a couple hours before you catch some shut eye. Next thing you know, it’s 6am, the sun’s coming up and you’re alarms going off telling you to wake up for work.
Then you're at work, and all you can think about is Baldur's Gate 3, so the shift feels like it's never going to bloody end...

I'm an old gamer and I played BG1 and BG2 when they came out decades ago and I loved it then as I'm loving BG 3 now. I'm happy that young gamers are getting into the cRPG genre. This is the kind of laid back game you play slowly, for weeks, months and years. Learning party mechanics and how to synergize spells and skills. Saving often is key, reloading and replaying again and again, and trying different tactics and strategies in order to get your party out of sticky situations. Back then we didn't have youtube and reddit and the advantage of walkthroughs and build guides. BG2 had a pretty thick manual which I had to read just to figure out what spells and skills to use. lol. Wish I could control more party members in BG3 though but I'm really enjoying the game and looking forward to more cRPG releases in the future.
Between crpg and mech games are such a rarity these days and we need more of both.

But in BG3 the environment of the game map in integral to the combat itself, I think most people unfamiliar with that kind of gameplay will appreciate the difference after playing and getting used to it.

I'm a CRPG fan going all the way back to Ultima III. I'm glad to see a game of this type get the funding to really do it justice, and I'm glad to see this genre getting attention from people who might not normally be attracted to it. I've heard of people buying this game even though they aren't into this genre just because they want to support a studio that is doing things right. It is making me think back to Elden Ring. Since challenging action combat is not something that my god-awful reflexes and general lack of patience for physical activity can handle, I didn't buy that game or get into it, but from watching videos, it looks like a masterpiece of its genre. Maybe I should consider buying it. I might not get far, but I'm probably competent enough to at least tinker around in the world a little and get some feel for what it is like, and supporting a company that is doing everything right in an industry that gets so much wrong feels like the right thing to do. Maybe Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3 will inspire some other developers to push the envelope in the right direction - no cash shop, no battle passes, no Denuvo - simply a complete experience that is a work of art rather than a corporate cash grab.
You should definitely try Elden Ring my friend, it is not so reflexes heavy like people tend to think.
Especially if you pay slowly, lvlup and gear/build your character well (as you would do, considering your knowledge and experience in crpgs). So give the game a try, you won't be disappointed.

A few friends and I were going through the first part of ot for our third or fourth time and one says "this is the first game I've played so far where making multiple characters and going through the starting areas again felt fun." And for me it just really feels like dnd. Granted some things were changed. But still feels like dnd
This game has brought me back to feeling like a kid again playing a game and truly being happy. Thank you larian studio 💯
I remember in 1997 Pokémon was huge. I was in 5th grade and I bought Pokémon blue. I can remember the feeling. I never thought I would get it again. Somehow this game gave me this feeling. Just a massive rpg world you’re about explore that you’re clueless about. I feel the same as you.
It's an amazing game and I haven't really liked turn based games. However my husband and I started playing on release day at 9M and next thing we know it's 7 am. We love it, it's the only game we have actually been playing. The whole weekend it's all we played. You get so involved in the game you don't even notice how much time has passed. It's a complete game, Larian did an amazing job on it.
exactly, its so strange. Ive never liked turn-based games, and have usually avoided the genre completely. Something about this game is just different though, and I'm enjoying it a lot, except for the parts where i die 4 times to the same encounter 😅
Maybe it's just me, but when you start constantly thinking about the choices you made and what the other outcomes could've been WITHOUT wanting to look them up, and instead experience it yourself, that is a masterclass of an RPG.
Pro-tip: Multiclass. Just do it.
For the first time in xx years after buying this game I feel like it was money well spent. Such a great feeling.
And also ... Activision 🤣🤣🤣
This is how you release a game !
BIG congrats to Larian studios!
Just got the game today. Been a long time since I’ve played a turn based game. Taking some time getting used to it. But loving the game
I am having a blast playing Baldur's Gate 3, sorry Diablo 4 you are now on the back burner. I do not know what I am doing half the time but learning as I go and having my choices affect the story line is just straight out fun!
The game is amazing in coop. Feels like a true RPG with your friends.
Really? I had the opposite experience - you're missing half the conversations and interactions with and between companions and NPC unless you're stuck with each other at all times. It also makes battle strategy harder. Having much more fun in single player mode.
@@ChangesOfTomorrow If you are well synced with your friend then it is amazing
@@ChangesOfTomorrow I agree. In my opinion, if you want to play in coop, it is probably best when everybody in your party has beaten the game at least once
Establish some do and dont inhouse rules. My group has a "party leader" that initiates interactions and prioritize what quest/lead to pursue. Everyone informs the others if they found something thats be known by all - like if we read a book with relevant info of any kind@@ChangesOfTomorrow
@@ChangesOfTomorrow I think its still pretty good as two-player coop. More than that I don't enjoy it.
If possible everyone should support this game, just as a statement that a good product should succeed and prompt more!
BG 1-2 set the expectations high and I have to say BG 3 went way over and beyond of those expectations....I spent insane amount of time to talk with everybody as the voice acting is uneartly and brilliant (speaking with goblins was a Snatch feeling :D)
a playthrough with Mcconnell would be great
@@brandon-et5vl 4 player coop, online.
2 player coop on couch.
you can even walk to different parts in the world.
McConnell is already playing with a party. Penta is the biggest streamer playing with him
Everything about this, and the rallying of the community behind it, brings great joy to my heart
This game is fun as hell and it has given me goosebumps multiple times...
also baldurs gate 3 has an option to pair it with twitch in the menus and your viewers can pick dialogs and a bunch of other stuff really cool
I mainly buy games after it has been out for a couple years and they are on sale on Steam. But I am so impressed with Larian and Baldur's Gate, I went ahead and purchased it.
This game is actually hard it makes me think. Every decision you make has consequences
you should play it. my first game in DnD, dont even know what DnD is, but damn im surprised every day playing. and all the things that usually frustrates players were carefuly designed not to. very player friendly
With this and Remnant 2, it's great to see feature complete, AA/indy (at AAA quality) games with no microtransaction BS come out and succeed.
For me it has this original gothic, skyrim and witcher vibes with a well told story, many features and possibilities
Larian learned from the Divinity-series and managed to even improve from that. This is how development should be!
Please play it on stream. It wont be boring because people want to see your decisions compared to their own
16:30 the fantastic showcase from the "DMC Guy" in FFXVI
I would not forget that
This game is a masterpiece, absolutely love it
We need more of this so much it’s great to get the word out we need complete games again in tired of huge popular games that are only %70 done
2 decades later and they make me feel just as good as I did when playing BG2 for the first time. Congrats Larian Studios
Love this game so far. Refreshing to have a finished game.
Bobby Kotick would ACTUALLY be holding a phial of poison, mumbling something about killing his assistant.
Larion studios is just so damn good in general. They have done 3 huge RPG titles and all of them slap. And they did it with a pretty damn small studio.
I really hope the BG3 team is basking in the limelight rn they deserve it
I'm not that big into games like this but something about this one is special. I've put in some good hours in this game and the time is flying. I am happily surprised how much fun this is.
Baldurs Gate 3 is amazingly complex and thrilling. I'm loving it, and I'm hard to impress with games, particularly rpgs. I love rpgs, but I rarely love the adventure of leveling and progressing with modern games. This game is been fun since character creation, and it also will have mod support from what I hear.
tbh system used (dnd 5e) is the biggest flaw of the system for me. pathfinder 1e or dnd 3.5 would've made for so much better game imo
I had Speak with Aninals and talked to a random rat. Turned out he had a toothache because chipped his tooth on an "evil thing". From there on it lead to one thing and another and then another. This game is amazing.
I hope this brings renewed interest into divinity original sins 1 and 2, as larian has been doing this kind of quality for a long time. i love this company. please stay awesome.
The Divinity series is one of my favorite. So I’m ecstatic that more people are getting to see how good Larian is. Just, here’s a genuinely good game. Have fun. That’s it!
I will add. A charming part of the huge numbers imo is it’s almost word of mouth selling like the old days. More people buy the game because they see/hear other people having so much fun. It’s a one time purchase, sure, but I turn around and tell everyone I know to get it because it’s so fun! I WANT to recommend BG3. I CAN’T recommend (for example) D2.
I hope when Dragon’s Dogma comes out it continues to carry this torch of fun games that are done at launch.
I've already been playing 100 hours and haven't even left act 1. This game is absolutely unreal. It is so fucking good. There's so many ways to solve problems and play, it can get overwhelming lol loving every minute
I'm honestly impressed, I'm 37 hours in my playthrough and almost done with Act 3 I think
@mikee9464 I genuinely don't know how I could've missed anything major in Act 1. Given I did play EA so I knew where I was going and that probably streamlined my run through there but even my first EA run only took 28 hours.
Between Fromsoft , and larian , there’s enough content to keep a casual like me entertained for years. I just wish one of these studios would buy the Command and Conquer franchise and bring it back to life.
Lmao and here I thought I was the only person who still remembers enjoying those games, what a simpler time that was
In one past interview about the founding of Larian Studios on Gamespot i believe. Sven told the story about Divinity Original Sin 1 putting the company almost out of business. They had to release the game in a somewhat unfinished state because the banks gave them a hard deadline on a monday to return a large some of money. So they released and the game became a big success and Larian had the money to pay back the greedy banks.
One small thing about Belgium culture if you fail to pay off the banks and your business goes bankrupt. You cut every single oppertunity to restart a business, because the banks won't lend you any money. If you fail, you failed and there is no Reset button. So imagine the stress Sven and the team had at the time.
I love how YongYea's wearing an Armored Core shirt and probably no one realizes.
I FKING LOVE BALDURS GATE!!!! Played 14 hours straight upon buying the game and only had to sleep because of appointment 😂
Even Mconnell is playing it. He’s an oathbreaker edgelord Paladin
Hades was feature-complete by the way. All the way. Insanely good games still exist. Thankfully for us.
The special currency doesn't exist just for obfuscation. It exists because you cannot refund it. A normal top-up is refundable, but the moment you bought crystals it becomes non-refundable.
i hope the game does good , from what i saw so far people are enjoy'n it .
This game is a masterpiece. Must play for any rpg fan.
Would you recommend to someone new to the genre ( Only game similar I've played is Minecraft Dungeons lmao but I did enjoy playing it with my gf ).
@@MustardSkaven disagree with that, if you dont like turn based combat like myself the game is definitely a skip.
I keep seeing: "Turn-based is boring to me.' Bro, it challenges you in so many different ways, how could it possibly be boring? The sheer amount of things you can do in combat is insane, it's PURE creativity. If you think that's boring, that's a YOU problem.
The game is great. Got to 60hours of playtime already.
This game is bigger due to DND the dnd community is huge and been waiting for a game like this
Dude, this reminds me of the Witcher 3 it’s a once in a gaming generation masterpiece. You should play it.
The bottom lin is that it’s an amazing game. Also the voice acting is perhaps the best we’ve seen since Dark Souls 3, no joke. Helps to the overall immersive aspect of it.
I took a break from playing Baldur's Gate 3 to watch this video.
my gf has not taken a break from BG3 unless it was for sleeping, eating or pooping. she has over 70hrs in it since release
