Trailered my boat down from Pennsylvania on my honeymoon and actually stopped in at shelter bay to try and meet you. I chickened out and left. Still kicking myself. Great vids thanks for your help over the years.

I went from an 18' outboard drive to a 28' inboard. Learned fast there was a lot i didnt know about boat handling. Joined a U,S, Power Squadron unit and learned a ton from some veteran boaters. Thank heaven for that. Wish there were videos like this when I started serious boating. Keep up the good work.

Appreciated the comments regarding the trim. Tried the tips early this morning. Big difference. Thanks for your time and effort in helping newer boaters. Always enjoy your videos....the tying up of a boat was very helpful as well.

I'm US military stationed in Europe. It's always been my dream to buy a center console, but because of the uncertainty of being stationed overseas the past few years, it's highly impractical to buy a boat. Hopefully my last couple of years of service will bring me back to the states, maybe Florida...... in the meantime a BAB shirt would be nice 😁😁😁

That explains why I have trouble maneuvering my little, flat-bottom canal boat I recently built and am now trying to drive with an outboard here in Tasmania! It spins on the spot but goes like a sailboat when the wind gets up. Blessings to you all.

Never considered the trim angle on the engines, but this makes a lot of sense and was really helpful. Will be trimming up a bit from now on in those tight spaces, even with twin engines.

I really enjoy the information on your videos. I'm not super familiar with outboards, so anytime you have a video that focuses on them, I really pay attention. My buddy is looking for a tri-toon and they are primarily equipped with these type of motors. I am very mechanically inclined, as he is not, so I want to be able to help with the search of a solid tri-toon and maintenance in the future. Keep up the great work and have a good week!!!

I have a regal 28 ft bow rider with a counter rotating Volvo penta duo prop. It is so difficult to steer with the one engine in tight places especially trying to fit a 9 ft into a 10 or 12 ft boat slip at the Lake of the Ozarks. It is difficult to anticipate with the wakes coming in off the main channel. Patience is always the best medicine.

Thank you for these useful tips! I did not know about trimming the engine out for better steering in reverse. I own a Windy 8000 which is a Norwegian boat most people probably don’t know. However, it was designed by the same man who designed the Nasty Class patrol boats which was used by the US in the 60’s. I think that’s a pretty cool pedigree #Boatlife

Heavier loads can cause difficulties. Prop walk and prop wash in reverse in mild wind and a heavy load sometimes means I can't get the boat to turn at all. I'll try raising the prop next time. In the meantime, give everyone an oar to help avoid obstacles, and ask them to not shift their weight. 😀

The mercury shifter has more modes tho, if you slow down to no throttle while in gear, the handle will kind of click into the no throttle, and then after that there is neutral. Same applies for reverse :D

Thanks for your videos. I own a 5 meter cabin boat with a 50hp Suzuki outboard. I am always pretty stressed when I have to dock in a narrow canal because there is not much space to turn and position the bow right between the other boats. My hull is pretty "flat" and the boat keeps sliding, especially when it's windy. I am sure your next videos will be very helpful.

Great Video. I've got a 28ft aluminum pilot house boat with dual outboards made by Kingfisher. Can you do a video with advice on how I should handle it. I launch at the Berkeley Marina boat launch in Berkeley Ca (37.86847492423435, -122.31770994341878) and it is tight and narrow. Every time I launch I worry about hitting boats in the slip. If it is to windy I just reverse all the way out. Never thought about trimming the motors up when in reverse.

A minor quibble with what you said about slow speed maneuverability and multi-hull boats, cats in particular. I can't argue with your statement _IF_ you assume that the mono-hull and the cat have only a single engine on the centerline of the hull. However most cats, even in the 20 foot range, have twin engines so slow speed maneuvers (u-turns especially) would be easier than even a twin engine monohull of the same size due to the separation between the engines. Even so, practice, _practice, PRACTICE any maneuver you think you may need to make so you _WILL_ do it the right way when you don't have time to think about it.
