Today I became a happy owner of this lens for only £49. I’ve bought it at the Real camera in Manchester, they had 3 copies and could choose the best one. Thank you for inspiring me.
Now I have 2 135mm lenses.
Wow, that’s a great bargain for this fabulous lens! Congrats! Enjoy it and have fun shooting!
The MC I have from the 80s makes stunning contrasty colourful images.
Thats great to hear!! Their lens coatings were truly amazing!
I've had this lens a few months now and not only am I getting more use out of it than I expected, it's quickly becoming one of my favourite lenses. Not bad for under £20.
Wow, you got a great deal for this fabulous vintage lens! Enjoy!
Thanks for the video. I Just picked one up at a car boot sale for £15
You are welcome. You got such an amazing bargain! I hope you’ll enjoy it.
They are so cheap but so, so good. It blows my mind that they aren't yet considered a classic alongside the Helios 44 58mm lenses. Do not hesitate, just buy one. Also fairly easy to service as well.
Great lens for sure! 🙌
I have that lens and I sometimes use it on a GFX 100S and it is amazing even with 102 Mpixels at full sensorsize. That is insane for a eastgerman lens from the 70s.
Great to hear your appreciation for this amazing lens!! It’s amazing what the designers at Zeiss were able to achieve back in the 70’s! Phenomenal optics that still shine today!
Thank you for this review. I've just been going through testing a large collection of old lenses and rediscovered this truly excellent lens. It's very useable even at f3.5 but begins to sharpen up very quickly and is impressively sharp at f8 and only really softens a little at f22.
You are welcome! Great to hear that you were also impressed by this excellent lens! Yes, by f8 it’s absolutely amazing! Enjoy it!
I miss your reviews, I hope there'll be new ones in the near future. I always come back to them when I consider a lens, or buy it (like this one, which I'll soon get). The photos themselves deserve as much attention as the review part. Do you perhaps upload some of them somewhere, like a blog or social media?
Thank you! That's really nice of you to say. Sorry for being absent on UA-cam. I've been preoccupied with my darkroom for a while - shooting film, developing and printing my work. It's been really great! I have an instagram account, but it's mainly about my obsession with old cameras and lenses. I'm at @vintage_optiks
Cheers!
Thx for this great video!
I bought this lens today via ebay and am already very excited about the first results!
You are welcome! Glad you were able to find one on eBay. Enjoy it! It's an awesome lens!
Another nice video on an other nice lens! Thanks. I have both copies in my big vintage collection. The older zebra and the MC version. The later one feels much better and smooth in focusing. Image Q is excellent in both where the cooler colours, or realistic colours of the first copy is great, the colours of the second is magic.
Thank you!! Yes, a great vintage lens for sure! Nice to hear your experience with the older version. I’m sure it has a magic of its own. I need to try it at some point. Take care!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 🧘
You are welcome!
Thanks for the review and congratulations for the simple and essential presentation. The intro killed me: fantastic! Good fantasy!
Thank you so much!!
Mine's the zebra version, most likely from 1967, judging by the serial number in the low 8 million range. I bought it used at its average market price but it came in pristine condition, safely stored in its original box. I think this version is only single coated. The images it produces are razor sharp. I absolutely love it.
Nice! Great lens indeed. Enjoy!
Thank you for the video!
You are welcome!
Very good insight about this classic lens. I'm collecting and using Canon FD lenses since more than 40 years. First version of the Canon FD 3,5 135mm S.C. was a similiar Sonar-design. The later versions were Ernostar designs. The first version has a shorter build rubber grip than the Ernostar versions.
Wow, 40 years! You must have an incredible collection of FD lenses! Thank you for the insight on the Canon FD 135mm. Would love to test it in the near future.
@VintageOptiks
This lens, like some others, was made for certain Praktica models, as can be seen from the three slightly protruding brass contacts on the M42 screw thread. Of course, these can also be used on all other cameras with an M42 Mount or adapted accordingly, but these three brass contacts also have a function. These contacts were used to enable TTL metering in certain Praktica models.
These Praktica models are:
- Praktica LLC
- Praktica PLC2
- Praktica PLC3
- Praktica VLC
- Praktica VLC2
- Praktica VLC3
- Praktica EE2
- Praktica EE3
Just a little more information, in case it wasn't already known. 😉
Greetings from Northern Germany
Thanks for the additional info. Cheers!
Excellent video of this great performer. Most of CZJ oldies still deliver! Thanks, Ted :)
Thank you! I agree - no matter how old these CZJ lenses are they are continue to deliver fantastic results! Cheers!
The Pentax 135 3.5 (m series) is a good performer too.
Great to know! Thank you for sharing. Cheers!
Another great video. I don't have this lens, it's similar to my nikkor q in the way it renders texture. Must be something in the sonar design.
Thank you! I love the Nikkor Q auto 135mm f3.5! Such a fantastic lens! A review of it coming in the near future.
Very good video !!!👏👍🤗
Thank you!!
That looks good - I like 135mm, it's quite a nice focal length for detail shots and close ups - not in a macro sense, but flowers and things can look amazing. I think I'd rather have the big focus throw of that lens than the tiny focus throw of a Makinon lens that's in my "to be repaired" pile - it's about 90 degrees from close to infinity - I haven't tried it out yet but I expect that it won't be that nice to use! Great video as always :-)
Yeah I love 135mm lenses especially when I travel and want to photograph some wild creatures. The extra reach comes in very handy! And the great thing about this Sonnar is that it has a MFD of only 1m which is awesome for 135mm lens. I also love the long focus throw - it makes for very precise focusing! A great lens all around! Thank you for your comment. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Another class review👍🏽👍🏻👍🏿
Thank you so much!!
I was looking for a 135 sonnar for about a year, recently found one Multi coated , not even used before for ~€40. Hope it lives up to the hype
Wow, that is an amazing deal! I hope you’ll enjoy it! It’s a great lens IMHO.
Great images. I used to have one. But prefer my Takumar 135mm f2.5. and 135mm f3.5 S-M-C's
Thank you! I totally understand- the Takumars are great lenses.
Very nice video. Subscribed.
Thank you! And thank you for subscribing!
where in the world do you live ot get these great nature shots in your reviews?
Oh, I travel a lot, which is why I have the opportunity to see and photograph a lot of unique places and creatures.
I have the older version of this lens and the colors shine
Sounds great! I’m sure all versions have something special. I wish I can try them all :)
@@VintageOptiks The one I have is the exakta export version - both optics & mechanics are v good.
Love this lens on my A7R II! This lens has proven that slowish apertures can make up for its amazing sharpness
I completely agree! This lens has so many great qualities that slightly slower aperture is not an issue at all.
great video friend, which lens is better in your consideration, the electric Carl Zeiss MC Sonnar 135mm f3.5 vs Jupiter 37a 135mm f 3.5? Thank you
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. I personally prefer the Carl Zeiss MC Sonnar. Cheers!
Some of these lenses have written electric, some S, some Sonar and some practicar. Is there any difference in the actual performance and quality of the lens. Thank you for the excellent video.
You are welcome. There is no difference in the optical design between the versions you mentioned. The main difference is only in their coatings. The later versions with Electric in the name have the latest coatings which I prefer. Cheers!
@@VintageOptiks I have the one that doesn’t have electric but s on the lens.Super vintage lens for sure👍
@@michaelbuckley8986 Cool!
Thank you very much for your review: I am in the process to find a clean copy. Many talks are going around about the many versions of this lens, some saying the FOUR DIGIT version MC should be the best. What is your opinion about? I thank you if you are so kind to answer.
You are welcome! Regarding the different versions - I can't speak of all the versions out there, because I have'n tried them all. But I can highly recommend the version that I reviewed here on the channel. It is the late iteration of this lens with excellent coatings on the elements which give you contrasty images with beautiful colors! I hope this helps and I hope that you'll be happy with this lens once you get to try it. Take care.
Thanks again: the lens number you reviewed here, following production number published on the net (Nadir Magazine) , should be from production year between 1975 and 1980 . I'll try to find a copy from that period.@@VintageOptiks
Thanks I guess that my answer has been lost, so I rewrite it here: the number of your copy seems to be following Nadir Magazine, from a year between 1975 and 1980@@VintageOptiks
Sounds good!
when you talk about copies, these copies are original made by ziess or are imitations/falsifications? great video thanks from argentina
Oh, sorry, I’ll be happy to clarify. I use the word “copy” as another way to say “example” or “unit”. These are definitely original lenses made by Zeiss. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks so much!
Got one of these the other day attatched to an old Zenit. Have been trying to figure out if the lens hood is meant to be so loose, it slides around constantly and is a bit of a nuisance.
Hmm, that’s odd. It shouldn’t be doing that. It probably got loose with time.
@@VintageOptiks does yours hold in place by friction?
Yeah
@@VintageOptiks Thats weird. the lens is otherwise in really good condition, other than some minor dust inside the elements (nothing out of the ordinary). I wonder if it's broken or something?
Hi meistro! What are your top 3 vintage cheap 135mm lenses, now after all that time?
Hello! My top 3 cheap lenses in that focal length will have to be the Auto Sears 135mm f2.8 (made in Japan version, like the one I reviewed), the Minolta MC Tele Rokkor X PF135mm f2.8, and the Nikkor QD Auto 135mm f3.5. The Sears and the Nikkor are still super cheap, but the Minolta is my favorite from the 3. Cheers!
What do you think guys, this lens or Juptier 9 f2?
Tough decision. I say get both :)
Does this lens have any relation with Carl Zeiss S-Planar 135mm F/5.6 and if anyone knows about that lens, which one is more superior?
The only Zeiss S Planar 135mm f5.6 I know of, is the one that was meant to be used with Hasselblad bellows extension. Is that the lens you are acquiring about?
is this lens goos enough for a sony a7iv
Definitely
do you know if this lens is radioactive?
Sorry I don’t know if it’s radioactive or not
@@VintageOptiks it isnt radioactive
@@VintageOptiks NO
