What I took away is that there’s a big, ol’, eldritch squid at the bottom of the Pacific and it’s cruisin’ for a bruisin’. It’s going to experience the full might of the American war machine in the sequel. You liquefy one us, you liquefy all of us 🦅 🇺🇸 🦅 🇺🇸
I'd absolutely love a Magical Realism list! I could recommend a couple, but mostly I've just read the really big ones (1000 Years of Solitude, House of Spirits, etc.). Anyhow, great review. Absolutely loved this book, I hope people don't skip this video!
Me, I'm Nobody. I'd love to see you do a history/recommendations/TBR video of magical realism! I haven't read many of the canon pieces of magical realism--Gabriel Garcia Marquez, mostly--but I have read The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende and loved it! The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina is a great modern novel of magical realism as well. For my thoughts on Our Wives Under the Sea, see your thoughts on Our Wives Under the Sea. Haha! If I haven't already, let me recommend The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi. Thematically, it's more about relationships and connections than grief (shameless plug for the video review I posted on my channel), but I had a similarly profound reading experience as I did with Our Wives Under the Sea.
Uhh thanks so much for the recommendations! Definitely adding those to the tbr. I’ve been wanting to get to Isabelle Allende for ages. I also loved One Hundred Years of Solitude
You sold me on this book during last months wrap-up video, but this sent me over the edge into ordering it. For a recommendation, I would absolutely classify Boy's Life by Robert McCammon as magical realism! I can't recommend it strongly enough. It's a masterpiece, one of the best books I've ever read, and ever WILL read. I know that you would love it because it's incredible in every way. Please read it.

Thanks Zan! I definitely need to read some Isabel Allende
