  • On Friday December 23, 2022 a massive storm hit the New England coast. This, with an astronomical high tide created the biggest waves I've ever seen at Portland Headlight. Monster waves! I braved the weather and went to photograph the event and arrived about an hour before high tide. By the time high tide came, I was completely soaked, I mean absolutely drenched. So I decided to head home. What I didn't know is that it got even worse, but luckily some good photog friends documented it. Oh, and don't worry there are many more wildlife videos coming, I'm just going to be mixing it up a bit with Maine content.

      Thanks Joe, you've inspired me to mix it up a bit. I only wish I didn't get drenched so I could have stayed for the outgoing tide.

      Thanks Garrett, you don't! I couldn't believe how fast I got soaked. I need to upgrade my rain gear, but even then.....

      Agreed, and I think the wind being out of the southeast made a huge difference. I've never seen the ocean that angry.

    Iv'e been there 3 or 4 times in the past during the tranquil summertime, your shot is excellent under the conditions and you are a brave soul to go out there in those conditions. I never thought the waves could be so big and the overwash is rediculous. thanks again and stay safe !

    I can see why they named it Portland, it’s almost identical to Portland Bill in the UK. Lighthouse Carpark the lot we even get the same crazies go out on the edge in a gale, amazing.

    THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL man BEAUTIFUL ,
    Couple of years ago we had some hella ocean crawling up the CHETCO POINT here in Brookings Oregon . I was the only dumb ass out there . I see toward the end of your vid that you are not the one out your way .

    • @MaineWoodsbooger
      @MaineWoodsbooger  Рік тому

      That must have been epic to experience! Quite a few people ventured out for this one, and luckily no one got hurt. The lighthouse did receive some damage.

      @@MaineWoodsbooger I will say it was .....interesting . there is a foot bridge between the point and the mainland . By the time i snapped out of the trance those big beautiful waves put me in . I turned to get out of there but , the waves had swallowed the bridge up . Thankfully didn't take the bridge out . but kept it covered to the handrails for a few hours . Google Earth you can see for your self just how the foot bridge is in comparrison . Well if youv'e the mind to any way .
      Sure plenty enough live adventure . I was out there last night to . Pretty wild seas .

    Wow. I have been to Maine. I would be viewing that inside a car drinking hot apple cider or in a tent bundled up or someplace inside. You would need to wear good rain gear or you will end up sick with a mean cold for at least a few days.

    Good way to get killed by being sucked back in with backwash or by a flying rock the size of a basketball!!!! is cool to see the absolute power of Mumma Nature though!!!!
