I know people hate the Sonic Sunglasses but I honestly love them. They're just so 12th Doctor. Plus he got the Screwdriver back at the end of series 9 so there's no harm. Fun quirky gadget specific to this Doctor and we still get to keep the iconic gadget.
I don't understand why people hated the Sonic Sunglasses. They're a more efficient Sonic device than the screwdriver. Both Series 9 and 10 had given them a lot more diverse features than the Sonic Screwdrivers from the series past. and above all else they're scientifically proven to make you %70 percent cooler. The extra %30 of coolness is from receiving the honorary title of Doctor Funkenstein.
I though they were okay. I do think they served a much better purpose in series 10 and they should have showed what the Doctor sees when he's wearing them in series 9.
Series 9 is seriously underrated, definitely one of my favorites! They need to do two parter episodes for series 11, it leaves more room for character development and drives the story :)

I think There is a part missing, in season 10 episode 6, while the doctor is scanning the veritas with the sonic screwdriver, when they hear how the last translator of the veritas shoots himself, he sents bill and nardole to investigate, while the sonic glasses was scanning the vital signals from the dead guy, knowing he was dead.
I wish it did different things than the screwdriver. Like how the Jack's sonic blaster is a different sonic devices and has different applications. The glasses could be used to see through material and stuff

Fun fact: Peter Capaldi wanted the Doctor to use sonic sunglasses so kids wouldn't have to buy an expensive screwdriver toy to pretend to be the Doctor. How sweet of him. ❤

The sunglasses were better off as a complementary gadget rather than a full on screwdriver replacement in my eyes.
