That will depend on the length you want your final piece to be and how you want to tie it, as the original was very long and had additional knots/ bows tied Into it. I allow 25% for shrinkage as I braid with most of the braid I do, as I much prefer loosing a little thread than it coming up short! You can check how your chosen yarn will behave with a short section before you start your main project if you want to as well to get a precise figure for shrinkage.
So, a form of finger weaving. American Indians created belts like this and it is called finger braiding. This appears to have been a good video but the sound is awful so I will watch it all the way thru later with subtitles on.
It's known as finger braiding with us as well. I can only apologise for the audio, it was my first ever video and I need to go in and edit the subtitles properly. When I get a chance I will probably rerecord the audio. My recent videos are a fair bit easier to hear!
@@WyrdKindred Thank you. I read an article on the Oseberg burial that mentioned finger braided belts but never found any examples or further reference. Your video came up when I was researching how to make the Skjoldehamn hood. This video gives me info on how to use the finger braiding I learned years ago to make authentic belts. Thank you again.
Camera skills - not what we're watching you for!!! Great tutorial, thank you.
:) Thanks, that was my first ever video. :)
Thank you so much for this fantastic tutorial. I just finished my first ever Skjoldenhamn belt a few minutes ago by following your guide.
Thats brilliant! Aww I'm so pleased. :)
This reminds me of the Japanese braiding that is done a Takadai so much!
Awesome. :)
You have a lovely soothing voice and are a good teacher, ive learned a load from you, thank you
I'm so glad! Thank you for the comment. :)

Nice work, nice and easy to follow too
Thankyou for the feedback. :)
How long should the main threads be?

Easy to follow visually, though you get very, very hard to hear and understand at times. You are almost inaudible even with the volume over 55.
I appreciate that, this was my first video and very much a learning curve! Hopefully the sound is better on the later videos for you. :)
