I am 70. My decorating and cooking for the holidays has changed over the decades. We've gone from 10 foot trees, to 4 feet live trees to just decorating the mantelpiece. I bring out the Christmas dishes out on December 1 and put out the Christmas tablecloth. We went from buying a ton of gifts to just sending Harry and David fruit boxes. Siblings are old and we have too much stuff. We still celebrate but it is less hectic and more peaceful😊
Depression and feeling overwhelmed around the holidays is a very real thing. I lost my Mom 5 years ago; she was (imho) the greatest Mom ever as well as my best friend. Losing her stole all the joy from my life for a long time and where before I had 4 trees and a house full of decorations; I barely got one tree up the following years. Last year we didn't even have a tree and instead had a pile of boxes from Amazon we opened. I swore this year would be different and though it hasn't happened yet; I am going to try and push myself to do something. I am going to manifest joyfulness and watching creators like yourself who keep it real will help. Thanks from a new subscriber!
I think we have all felt your mom frustration. My kids are 29/25 now. The stuff you do they won’t remember but the way you feel stressed about it they will remember. Hug your kids more and being grateful helps get through those tuff days ❤. Hope you making this video helped you release! Hang in there
I recently read a quote that the best gift a mom can give her family this holiday is her happiness, calmness and joy. Kids will forget the stuff but they will remember the special memories spent as a family.

A sentimental, tree is the most meaningful. Ornaments to one day pass to the kids ❤ that’s how I was raised and now my tree is the most fun of random ornaments that all have a little story. It’s the best!!
I use the same cookie recipe as Phoebe's grandma... Nestle Tollhouse. I always do pan cookie bar variation. It is the best!

I have a star on my front door and that's my only Christmas decoration. When I had kids at home I decorated every room and the outside. I loved it. Now I go to their homes for Christmas and I love it too. I no longer kill myself cooking, cleaning, baking, decorating, orchestrating every thing.
There are some UA-cam videos that you watch for calming content, or entertainment, some for their ridiculous level of perfection but its pretty. I watch you because you are real! It feels more like catching up with a friend. Not to mention, you got wayyyy more done in this video than I EVER get done in a weekend. Cut yourself some slack and delegate jobs to Adam and the kids. You'll feel better about it the more you do it. Easier said than done, right? 😂 Take care ❤
Do like me empty nester no more decorating, cooking or shopping for Christmas. Best thing ever!
Now that our 4 girls have gotten older, we try and let them help whenever possible. They put almost all the ornaments on the tree this year and our oldest 3 will help me with a lot of the wrapping. One daughter makes a specific Christmas cookie every year and we all clear out of the kitchen when she works on those. They will all help my husband make his grandmothers sugar cookie recipe closer to Christmas too. They want to help us and overall it helps make the holidays a little less stressful for all of us. We did the bulk of the decorating right around Thanksgiving weekend and had on the football games or Christmas music while we worked together as a family. The girls really look forward to that. Next year will feel a little different when our oldest is away at college.
I remember when you got your beautiful Lenox snowman Holly dishes, and the joy they bring you, if I've learned anything in my 63yrs, it's don't save our special items...use them😂, eat those cheerios in those bowls❤( love seeing my og buddy Murphy, and now sweet Milo's 1st Christmas)😘
We call that the family themed tree. My "babies" are are adults now with babies of their own so I have handed a lot of ornaments of to them if they wanted them. This year I just have a 2ft prelit and decorated tree. Its on a book shelf. My children live over 3000 miles from me and because of some medical issues I can't travel this year. So I am living a bit vicariously rhrough youtube and movies.

Me too!!! I totally have no Christmas in me right now. My daughter and husband put up the tree and I think that may be it for this year. Good chill vibes and family time are valued more than decor right now, but my kid is older. I know the pressure of making Christmas special for younger kids. You are too hard on yourself though. Your "half done" is way better than my "all done and then some" lol. You are doing great Momma!

I have that Lenox holiday dish set too!! They’re inherited from my mom and I love getting new items from their line every year! I like your sleigh. I don’t have that one.
We ONLY do eclectic ornaments in our tree! I had generic ones with bulb ornaments. Trees are so much more personal and sentimental when ornaments are unique!
I still love Hello Kitty and I'm a grown adult with grown children. Lol
For me personally, I want you to just do what you can. If you can't achieve all of the goals don't stress out about it. I love your channel and your family and I want the best for you all. I will still be here whether you post occasionally or daily. I fall behind watching at times but I always get caught up in the end. Wow! I don’t know anyone that can get as much done in a day as you do! I don’t decorate anymore but I love watching others lol. You have beautiful decorations and your kids will always remember the special things you do. I read some of your comments and one lady said she doesn’t really decorate much anymore and gift giving has gotten down to gift baskets because they have too much stuff. I’ve told my kids the same thing the past couple years. Finally this year they get it and we are changing things up this year for our annual Christmas party! And the Walmart rolls…my husband does the shopping here and though I prefer the Rhodes rolls, he’s been bringing home the Walmart rolls you used in this video and he Loves them! Jen, your home is beautiful and don’t you worry…you will finish your masterpiece….tomorrow…or next week, right?😊

I know it's hard to ask for help, but it's also hard to go sit down while you're stomach is doing summersaults 😅 And speaking of being paralyzed and overwhelmed. I experience that when I should be sleeping, but my mom brain won't shut up. It's only December 2, and I'm already thinking about what to cook, seeing myself tied up in traffic rushing in and out of stores. My children are adults, so I was a maniac when they were children 😂 Thank you for sharing and speaking your truths ❤

I would put 2 more wreaths on the cabinets on the other side of the vent. I love your tree. I think that that should the purpose of tree, to look at it and see memories and little things from others years. Once I’m an empty nester I’m sure I’ll appreciate it and cry like a baby also
Yeah, pre-lit trees are nice, but they will fail eventually. I once cut all the lights off of one. It was a pain in the @$$. Merry Christmas Jen - you've got this!
I love Christmas dishes! I have a set of winter pattern that I use all throughout December. Then I have a very special set I use on Christmas Day only. They make me happy!
Hi Jen. Enjoyed the vlog. I like to be in total control and finally am getting to the point I can let things be done by others. My children are grown and on their own. We just celebrated our daughter’s wedding in Key West FL and I am enjoying watching her decorate her new home for the first time. It’s wonderful to enjoy this time in my life. I have always used colored lights because of the kids (and husband). Even though they are 20 and 23, they still prefer the colored lights. I always teased them that I was going to switch to clear, but never have. This year, I decided to put 300 clear lights more toward the middle of the tree and then 400 colored lights more on the outside. My goal was to create the "Hallmark" tree and it looks beautiful. My tree is 26 years old and it still looks gorgeous. I bought my tree from Seasonal Concepts, here in Kansas City when we got married. I had thought about getting a pre-lit tree about 10 years ago, but then started hearing the stories of frustration with them. I found a new appreciation for my tree and love it.
Jen I don’t know how you do it day in and day out. You are such an inspiration to me and I really enjoy your videos. You are also an enabler. I just ordered the Lenox dishes. I have wanted these for years and this year after watching your video I decided this is the year to buy them. Thank you so much for making your videos and inspiring me. Merry Christmas.
Love your Christmas tree. So many memories hanging on every branch. Perfect day to decorate with the snow on the ground. I have 5 grandkids I babysit, a full time demanding job, I am my moms caretaker and have my home and husband as well. I make my carrots like that too except i sprinkle apple pie spice on them. I high recommend trying this!

I bought a pre lit tree from Costco years ago. Never had a problem with it, but it’s so big and wide, lay on your back to pull it in the corner. But I got tired of decorating it. So I have a smaller fibre optic tree. Love your dishes. Have a good week.🇨🇦💕👍
Hi Jen, whenever I can’t decide what to do, I sit down with a cup of coffee and watch the Hallmark Christmas movies, last year when I packed everything away I wrote down everything that goes in that box so it is easier to repack the items after Christmas. I cut out a lot of things this year, partly due to Arthritisvin my back and I have to take breaks in between projects. Have a great work week, and if you can’t get everything done, it’s perfectly fine. Holidays are not worth putting your health and mental well-being at risk.❤️
Coloured lights
I’ve always done glazed carrots with butter and brown sugar which I’ve eaten my whole life. I might have to try the carrots with honey butter.
p.s. if you continue to wash those Christmas dishes in dishwasher with dishwasher liquid or powder the heat and soap will eventually breakdown the beautiful trim., and the heat/drying cycle may crackle/craze the glaze. Hand wash! And never heat in microwave:0
This is the first Christmas without my mom she passed the day after Christmas last year and so I'm not in the Holliday spirit.
I think part of our problems have to do with comparing ourselves to others. When I was a child we did the tree! Period. Somewhere along the way it became decorating the entire house, making cookies and candy buying and wrapping all the presents and boom…I hate Christmas! Let’s all go back to simple.

Girl I feel the same way. I am a full time teacher, married, two kids, a dog and cat and a house to take care of. There is always something to do and I feel like I can never get caught up with it all.

Jennifer, when I was your age maybe a bit younger, I started feeling overwhelmed.
It made me ill. Our big difference is, I was a single Mom. Now in my 60’s I’m recalling my two children telling me what an awful Mom I was. Now they are in their 40’s and tell me how much they appreciate me. I had them doing their laundry and dishes. Maybe Keira can help you load the dishwasher, with some guidance on what can and cannot be placed in the dishwasher. So happy you are getting help from Adam. He’s a good man. I bought a tree with no lights so I can string any color we want. This year we did clear lights. Last year we did pastel lights.
Oh wow, you were so close to me when you were in Lexington! I live about 20 minutes outside of Lexington! Do you all come to Kentucky often? There are so many bourbon distilleries now. Hubby and I went to about 10 several years ago but they have added so many since we went.

Yes hand off the duties yes it won’t be as good as we do but in time it will help you especially the cooking n cleaning then get a deep clean once a week yes it gets overwhelming but you need to take time for you
