Whoever did that Les Paul headstock acrylic repair, did a GREAT job. That's not easy to do. I love when à guitar is brought back to life, instead of just being trashed away.
I used to walk the few blocks to the Starwood in '77 to see whomever was playing. Then VH got a thursday weekly booking so we used to see that hot mess all the time. I liked that white Ibanez Destroyer Ed played a LOT ..almost got one as they didn't cost that much back then. It KILLED me after they"went away" and came back with the LP and he BUTCHERED THAT BABY. That shark POS hurts my feelings because I know it as a bad ass Destroyer lol. 🎸
That was a lawsuit Ibanez that Ed had and ruined with the cut. He used it intact on VHI and had to borrow Chris Holmes’ from WASP matching Destroyer for WACF.
Eddie literally wired the neck and bridge pickup together permanently, I would say that had more of an effect on the tone than anything else he did to it.
It's pretty cool to see my guitar on trogs show. The black lLes Paul XPL DC at the very end is a picture of my guitar in her younger days. I bought her a couple years ago and I really like her. The single coils sound great and the mini toggle splits the dirty fingers in the bridge. The two dings near the tailpiece confirms it's the same guitar.
Eddie's was a Ibanez destroyer, which he always said it lost it's tone after he did the cutout. you can get a modern day version/replica through the EVH brand under the name Shark
My favorite was the EVH themed Explorer... And I like the fact that he didn't do the big cut out of the body and kept it more traditional...pretty cool 👍
I love the epoxy fix. It's like the ghost withing the guitar is showing where once it was solid. Would be a cool theme for a pointy guitar that is battered but has the ghostly features of what was once there
Anyone noticed that the resin headstock has a cutout between two tuners on a few of the pictures (1:41)? Something must have happened after he built it.
Trogly, the most money I ever spent on a guitar was $5,883, which included shipping. It is the Sunburst EDS-1275 you reviewed a few years back, and it is OVERWHELMINGLY GORGEOUS!
I love my customized (custom shop) 1275! ❤ I had mine professionally refinished from white to black, which looks awesome with all the gold hardware. When I bought it, it already had a beautiful custom pearl inlay pattern running like vines all the way up both necks! It's a bit heavy for gigging 🙃, but the 12-string sounds great for recording in the studio. BTW I paid $4,400 for it back in 1999. Well worth it! 😊
I think "clear" guitars look very cool. Please don't beat on me. I have a lot of amazing wood axes, and I get that a plexi/acrylic guitar will never play or sound as good as any of those. I only said I think they LOOK cool. 😉😊
That melody maker except for the variation in the top looks much like a LP Special my brother has. Apparently the double cut must've had a kahler trem system you can slightly see the opening left from it.
That is one cool guitar and I'm sure you didn't know this, Trogly, but at 2:04 you call those chains. Just FYI if you ever talk about it again, those are called turnbuckles. They are commonly used to tension things like gates on fences.
I saw a ebony DC XPL HSS with a stoptail piece on Craigslist in Spokane about a year ago. I think he was asking $1000. It was pulled within an hour before I could go look at it in person.
I see Cesar virtually confirmed the return to production of the Firechick aka RD. You must admit Cesar has this thing for re releasing old weird shapes the Victory and Theodore come to mind. This RD could be a hot rod if they leave off the foo foo active BS but keep the 25.5" scale they had on it last time. 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Someone posted a link to another Double Cut XPL but it had a different bridge pickup, didn't have the Kahler route and the asking price was a LOT more. Personally, I can't get past the double cut appearance, so it would need to be cheap for me to be interested.
@@tahwnikcufos There's a 'fix' for a situation like that; taking the loop of the string that the ball end sits in and fitting it in the fine tuner. Not perfect, but it gets the job done.
Thanks for the analysis! Could you help me with something unrelated: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (mistake turkey blossom warfare blade until bachelor fall squeeze today flee guitar). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
Well I'm outta here, gonna unsub Austin. I like your content well enough, I just can't f' with Gibson anymore after this latest Mesa Boogie debacle, i'm over their conrinual line stepping. They are never going to stop being evil, ever. Cya.
@@Adamnme01 Gibson fired Randall! Randall IS Boogie and then blacklisted Fluff for saying it. It's the straw that... and simply inexcusable. Gibson should be boycotted into the oblivion. They are 👿👿👿.
When you're a company that has to put a fancy, usually ridiculous paint job on your product and slap a custom shop sticker on it, it just shows you what kind of trouble the company is in . As far as I am concerned " collectable gear" went out in the late fifties , early sixties and even at that not every guitar then was great .a fancy paint job or tiger stripping is not going to make a guitar sound better, just make Gibson richer .

Eddie said after he did the mod I'm that guitar, It sonically never sounded the same. So we put the turnbuckles in to try and restore the tone.
Just came to say that, he said he ruined it basically.

Turnbuckles most definitely was for cause it looked cool as hell....

Those cool chains are called turnbuckles.
George “the Animal” Steele used to eat ‘em!
Eddie has always said that the rhythm tracks in early VH days was an Ibanez Destroyer but it lost it's tone after he took out the lump of wood
Eddie literally wired the neck and bridge pickup together permanently, I would say that had more of an effect on the tone than anything else he did to it.
Glad they didn’t try to do EVH’s “shark bite” on that Explorer, so many things could have gone wrong.

There's a company called Cream guitars that makes instruments with transparent headstocks
I'd buy that LP with the plastic headstock....I dig it.
That SG looks like it was painted with a roller! 😂
They are not “chains”, they’re called turnbuckles.
SG would be 73, pickup spacings are too close together to be 75. In 73 the bridge pickup was too far away from the bridge.
I love the epoxy fix. It's like the ghost withing the guitar is showing where once it was solid. Would be a cool theme for a pointy guitar that is battered but has the ghostly features of what was once there
Not Futura, Corvus. I happen to like them.
I really like the clear headstock, would like to see Gibson attempt in some way. Maybe on a snow burst LP or SG
"one that might belong in the produce section" 😂
Anyone noticed that the resin headstock has a cutout between two tuners on a few of the pictures (1:41)? Something must have happened after he built it.
Ghost Repair. The spirit of Gibson headstocks.

No, still a headstock only a mother could love
That EVH painted Explorer was most likely one of the Vintage White ones with an Ebony board.. They go for a pretty penny now
I absolutely love your episodes where you review past guitars it's totally cool thank you Austin
Broken head stock, the ultimate relic-ing. Pick them up before the prices explode😂
That acrylic headstock with the robotuners looks radical! It begs the question (WYRON?). Absolutely. Love to try that bad boy out!
EVH explorer, luv it

those aren't chains at all... they are called turnbuckles... in this case they are ornamental, purely.
I know its not your area Trog, but have you checked the archtop L5 double cutaway? Those are pretty unique
For EVH fans that Explorerlooks pretty cool , and the Purple Sparkle LP Custom looks edible . Thanks Trogly !
I guess the robotuners are acting as extra structural support? 😂

I'll show you a 'warm brown finish' or whatever.

the melody maker looks like the background of the album cover for Sound Of Perseverance by Death
Futura? Isn't that a Corvus? Futura is the weird shaped Explorer
Evening Troglodytes!!!
Yes, this
👻GHOSTED HEADSTOCK👻
The Rudolph Lightening everyone is a fan of it! No one playing Metallica uses a high E.
I'll be honest, I'd rather a reneck
I normally don't like 2014 anything. But I would pickup that melody maker in a heartbeat if I had the $
Nice
The acrylic Gibsons should be painted…just for my tastes, and I have a guitar made out of a toilet seat…
Amazing
4:50 Doesn't look broken... just looks like it needs the string replaced to pull it back up... kinda weird that it's missing the ball though
On second thought... the glare in the angle at 4:58 does make it look like the catches are snapped off.

New string "claws" are available from Kahler for a few $. Not a hard fix. Definitely cheaper than a new bridge.
