Sir, can we rear cows on total grass-fed diet, like some farms practice abroad. From the above calculations that you have presented, we can achieve the 760g protein by giving around 52kg green fodder as well, although the energy given will also be around 24500 instead of the required 11500. My main reasoning is that by using concentrate feed, a farmer's dependence on market factors increases whereas he can always grow green fodder on his own. Of course this was an extreme example, but maybe we can substitute some feed with more high quality green fodder instead.
on pastures animals requires great amount of energy for walking and additional methane generation to digest extra fiber. so this theory of only green fodder cannot sustain high yielding animals. Even in western countries protein supplementation is done to support milk production at least in first half of the lactation. Modern dairy rations follow minimum eNDF norms to optimize production
