Specific note: we don't know what the probability is to get heirloom shards out of a single pack. All we do know is that if you haven't gotten heirloom shards after 499 packs you are guaranteed heirloom shards.
That means that it takes at most 500 packs to get heirloom shards, but you could also get them earlier. So ON AVERAGE the chance to get heirloom shards from a pack is actually guaranteed bigger than 1/500.
Im level 680, no shards, ever....I think the probability continues to get worse or better with every season as they add constant grey and blues to the pool which waters down your chances but you open stuff as you go which improves your chances. Id argue unless you are spending some serious money you are losing ground which is my situation being L680 and having zero shards.
@@brunomarzipan7894 Again we don't know exactly how packs work, but the following is the most natural, and easiest, approach.
When you open a pack the following checks happen:
1. Have you opened 499 packs without getting Heirloom Shards? If so, get shards! If not continue
2. You have a small chance of getting heirloom shards (say with probability 0.1% aka 1/1000). Generate a random number and see whether you get shards. If not continue.
3. Have you opened at 29 packs without getting a legendary? You get a legendary! If not continue.
4. Generate 3 random numbers and from that decide what rarity items you get. Are all 3 whites? Upgrade one to blue.
5. For each item get a random cosmetic out of the loot pool. The game seems to prefer giving you an item over metals (really evident when you have almost every cosmetic), but will award metals if you already have the selected item. This part is unkown to me how it's probably done, I just don't have a good idea.
Here the individual chance of getting a Legendary is 2.53% (gives a 7.4% chance of getting AT LEAST 1 Legendary) and getting an Epic is 6.53% (for a 24.8% chance of AT LEAST 1 Legendary or Epic).
The "at least" is key here!
We can't determine the common and rare individual probabilities without actually getting loads of data.
So the flow should be: check if you get shards -> check if you get a legendary -> open a normal pack.
The actual rarity that you get is not impacted by the loot distribution itself (though that does impact which cosmetic you get within a rarity).

Ive got 5 heirlooms so I’m very lucky and blessed but I still want Horizons one very badly then thats basically all of the ones i want maybe pathy and loba as well after that. Ive unlocked almost every single skin in the game quips banners everything. I would definitely recommend using your crafting materials to craft all the banners ect. Seemed to help me get heirlooms faster in the past. ✨💯

grinding takes time, i bet once you practice alot, i bet you will be the best apex player ever! your lucky to get them on your 12th pack, that just means have hope and keep on practicing so you will be the best with time and practice
I've played every season (except season 15 and 16). And gotten majority of packs for every other season. No idea how many that is, but it's a lot lol. Never gotten an heirloom.

Been playing apex since it came out on PlayStation and I recently got me heirloom shards last week and got this Mystic valk skin with the sky dive trail once season 18 hit. I was beyond 500 apex packs as well as my level was over 2000 before they changed the leveling system to what it is today. All I can say is that getting those shards is RNG. People keep saying “open 500 packs and your guaranteed to get heirloom shards” but that’s all fake. It’s pure RNG. Gotta be either rich or lucky to get them.
no, it's a fact, that you get a guaranteed heirloom in 500 packs. it was proved by many videos on yt. But u can get lucky as me and get a heirloom on lvl 174 :D
