    I took a mathematical proofs class this spring and this book along with the book by susana ep were excellent tools. Personally I couldn’t even make a dent in either as they are both massive books and I had barely any time. However with the exercises I was able to tackle, they were well written and very well explained.

      It should read "Because I am 15 years old, I love to have such informative math books." I would have loved to have had this book at this age of 15. I congratulate you for having the same wish!

    This looks like a lovely book. Those chapters on sets, induction, logic, proof by contradiction look so enticing. As you say, motivation for a topic is half the battle- the why of doing the stuff, enough to get you interested in delving deeper.. Nice review.

      This format of video is becoming quite popular, hard to say it was invented by someone. Jay Cummings' "Proofs" and Hammack's "Book of Proof" (I've got this one) are widely known and used, and there are many reviews of them in UA-cam. Math Sorcerer is quite known channel, but I don't think he is copying or imitating him, it is just another (and valuable) book review.

    No offense or anything, but that’s a really DEveLOpED CouNTrY problem, I don’t know if you realize that people in universities sometimes cannot afford books and the fact that it’s so cheap really helps because you we’re not here for the quality of the paper just for the content.

    No time to watch. Does this book explain why some mathematicians insist that only constructive proof is true math proof?

    • @gcod3d161
      @gcod3d161 Рік тому

      I don’t know about what the book says but to my understanding, for the p=np problem, you could prove that there is an algorithm that solves p=np. But that doesn’t really help much because yes it could exist, but if it’s only one exact set of steps in an infinite permutation space of steps, we might not have enough time left in the universe to ever find that algorithm. So is it a ‘real’ proof if you don’t actually have the algorithm? I think people have different motives for studying mathematics. If you’re trying to apply mathematics to solve immediate problems, yes you might not care about someone proving something about an object that can’t exist in our universe. If you’re studying mathematics because you want to approach infinity and go beyond, then you might be find with people proving something about an object we may never encounter.
      I think we should do what we want. Who knows, the Banach-Tarski theorem might inspire some kid to study mathematics and they end up creating many constructive proofs that positively impact the field while on their journey

    That's so annoying. How does it "save money" to have a book that falls apart? It's just wasteful. A well-made, hardbound book may cost more upfront, but it will last forever, and you can give it to others or sell it, if you don't want it.
    I also don't like math books (or any books for that matter) that are over 150 or pages. Math books should be hardbound and split into multiple volumes if more than a hundred or so pages.
    I have spoken.
