"Where did he get those wonderful toys?!" Says the guy that had a revolver, that looks like a sniper, that performs as an Antiaircraft gun...all fit into his pants
Joker and Batman have pretty much the same skill set. They both use gadgets and have a very high intelligence. Joker I dare is slightly smarter than Batman, as Batman is a much better fighter than Joker. Joker was always jealous of Batman's toys. Yet at the same time Batman had to stay on his toes due to the inventive nature of Joker's budget gadgets. Just think how dangerous Joker would have been if Joker had access to Military grade multi million dollar tools and gear! Joker was always about that gun powder and gasoline even back then.
It’s kind of a common contemporary Joker theme. Joker is always trying to get Batman to break his no killing rule. It’s part of the reason why Joker racks up a body count.
Yep, it’s my favorite scene in both movies. Although while I do absolutely love this one, too, it makes less sense because this Batman not only consistently kills people throughout the entire movie, he’s doing it again in this very scene. He misses Joker by accident (I have no idea why...perhaps he didn’t use the Force?). In The Dark Knight Batman crashes because he simply won’t kill the Joker. He chooses not to kill him. In Batman 1989 he’d have been fine killing the Joker, he just fails to do so.
@@NathanDav42 I remember reading the story boards for Batman 89. And they had it listed where the Joker was dodging everything Batman shot at him. Maybe Jack Nicholson didn’t feel like jumping around? But the scene where he is just standing there while stuff is blowing up around him almost comes across as more bada$$ since it’s showing that he’s fearless.
@@MrRolyat98 It’s definitely either badass or insane, but it also makes Batman look incompetent. And as I said, it’s always seemed like an homage to me of the Death Star assault and how Gold Leader uses the targeting computer but fails to blow it up, while Luke - listening to Obi-Wan’s ghost - makes the choice to ignore the tech and use the Force, and succeeds. So when Batman uses the targeting computer and fails, it reminded me of Star Wars. But Batman’s tech had worked really well up to then and he had the Joker 100% zeroed in. I love the scene and loved the Dark Knight’s version even better (because the Joker WANTING Batman to kill him and Batman refusing makes for stronger characters there), but they should’ve had SOME reason Batman missed there because otherwise he’s either incompetent or doesn’t know how the Force works.

Nicholson embodied the more quirky gangster joker while ledger embodies the agent of chaos joker. I think what's great about the joker is the variety of ways he can be interpreted
Fun fact: the script called for the Joker to dance around the Batwing’s missiles to dodge them. For whatever reason, the scene wasn’t filmed this way and the missiles completely miss Joker despite the Batwing having a full target lock. The movie’s tie-in comic tries to explain this by mentioning that Joker had a signal jammer on him and missiles swung off target and hit the goons instead.
it's much better this way. The contrast makes the point: the Batwing plane is very mobile. Joker is stationary target. Batwing is armored. Joker is 'naked' target, no armor. The Batwing is armed to the teeth with machine guns and missiles. Joker only has single revolver. The Batwing rains death everywhere. Still couldn't get Joker, who downs Batwing with just one shot. This one scene makes the Batman movie unforgettable. That one immortal moment that cements Joker as absolute badass.
You can also find the movie script online. In the script, it describes Batman's inner thoughts during this scene. He's confused and frustrated at how the Joker has such unnatural luck to have survived the missiles and bullets, and describes the Joker as a demon with how lucky he is. Keep in mind this definitely is comic book accurate as the Joker always survives the most absurd situations. I also think this scene fits the Batman and Joker rivalry perfectly. Batman is the ultimate preparations and contingency hero while the Joker is the most unpredictable villain. I kinda of think Batman's targeting system was prepared for everything except for the Joker staying stationary.

Joker: Why didn't somebody tell me that he had one of those things? Batman after batwing was shot down: Why didn't somebody tell me that he had one of those guns?
For those wondering why Joker wasn't shot by Batman there even though he had all those laser aim sights its because in the comic version of this it's says he's got a jammer and the missiles and gun actually hit Joker's goons and the giant pistol had a bomb bullet. The 1989 comic gives more detail than the movie.

7 years old when I watched it. Now I'm in my mid 30s and I still think the batwing flying above the clouds towards the moon is one of the greatest comic film scenes.
To this day, no batman film has had a more epic or iconic scene which the Dark Knight borrows heavily from I might add. The theme, the Batmobile and this Batwing are what make this film truly legendary!
Joker killing Bob just sums up everything about the character. In his mind, Bob was his most trusted ally. He failed to protect his balloons so that means he must die. That is fucking Joker.
Ricardo Cantoral It shows history repeating itself he killed his right hand man and Grisham attempted to get Jack killed. The Joker proving he's a astounding piece deadbeat awful garbage scum killing his loyal as hell right hand man Bob. He's the moron that broadcasted his plans so Batman would hear, and he doesn't conclude that Batman has a airplane after seeing his impressive arsenal.
Ricardo Cantoral yeah that is so true but what if joker didn't kill Bob wouldn't joker still be alive cause Bob could have stalled Batman in Tha cathedral and joker would have gotten away
Ricardo Cantoral That doesn't change that it's Asinine that he didn't conclude Batman must have other vehicles including a plane. Also I see again a character survives a explosion because of plot armor.
better than that line, only the one he loves to repeat over and over "where does he get those toys", referring to the weapons and vehicles that Batman uses
It's a shame because if Tim Burton shot Batman today like we have the new Batman movie that's coming out, that would have been more accepted and we would have had four movies with the same director and people and style other than just the two we had.
‘Make sure to add a huge mini-gun and missiles, Alfred. Nothing will make it easier to keep my promise not to kill than a minigun and seeker missiles.’

@@ricardocantoral7672 Yeah what they are saying doesn't make sense because Batman kills based on self defense. That is a given. The reason people made a issue about Zack Snyders batman was because he was killing people who were fleeing from him or was never a threat to begin with.

Jason Case you do realize this is in the timeframe when Joker first appeared so him seeing the batmobile and Batwing was a new thing for him because they were just building up there rivalry for one another starting out so seeing the batwing for the first time doesn't make him stupid it just surprise him is all that him came out of no were and took away the balloons without warning

People in 10 years will say Batfleck was underrated... oh wait they’re already saying that now.
Doesn’t every batman movie have batman kill someone
Yeah
Fun fact: the script called for the Joker to dance around the Batwing’s missiles to dodge them. For whatever reason, the scene wasn’t filmed this way and the missiles completely miss Joker despite the Batwing having a full target lock.
The movie’s tie-in comic tries to explain this by mentioning that Joker had a signal jammer on him and missiles swung off target and hit the goons instead.
it's much better this way. The contrast makes the point:
the Batwing plane is very mobile.
@@Darthzilla99 > and describes the Joker as a demon with how lucky he is
that makes literally zero sense. since when are demons considered lucky
Huh, I just always thought it was because the joker is the size of a human, and the plane's weapons are more than a human apart from centerline.
