You can change the tailshaft and housing but you gotta dig into the trans to do it. Its not super hard really since you arent taking any sub assemblies apart. The 67 trans has a smaller hub on the converter where it goes into the crank snout. Then you also run into balance issues because the motorhome motor is externally balanced and the 383 is not. They do sell weighted flexplates however so you can use a neutral balance converter, but they are starting to get pricey. - Jamie

I over purchased my engine stand. It has a 2 ton capacity. Better safe then sorry. I purchased my engine hoyse for $170 about 18 years ago. Now that same hoyst is almost $400. Likely better quality then what is being sold these days. I don’t use them much these days, but won’t part with them. Thanks for the good and “real” content.
Hey bud, quick MoPar tip. An odd number on the end of the part number 99.8% of the time will be a left side component. Even number at the end of the part# will be right side.
The good side of that is 20 years from now he will be out in the shop, using his Bonehead Carz skills, spending every paycheck on tool trucks, car parts, pondering if it's even fun and how he ever ended up there. Meanwhile, his classmates will still be in mommy's basement, surrounded by piles of pizza boxes and vape smoke, still pondering their gender, playing online games and shouting out orders at mommy like Eric Cartman does. This is going to be an awesome winter project. Thanks for showing how to do this as an actual realistic budget build. Hopefully this thing gets the same amount of attention the Holley goat did. Keep up the great work man!
I myself have found that if you silicone the valve covers on with gray RTV and then allow it to completely cure, they will never leak again. Use brake cleaner to remove all oil first. Kind of a pain if you have to go back into it tho.
I doubt it. But when used properly, it works wonders. I resealed my small block Chevy and it never leaked a bit for 80k. It was still dry when I sold it. Valve covers and intake ends. Glad to see you teaching your kid about this stuff. Good stuff to know as you go through life. When he has a problem, he will have a clue as to what’s going on. 😁👍
71 and up 727's are upgraded and best model to have. Being a RV trans will be heavy duty and likely have forward drum with 4 clutchs and planets over the 3 in standard 383 trans. But yes, you'll need to swap the output shaft to swap housings. check out my vlog on b&M deep pan 727 install. looks good, can't wait to see in the chicken.
I loved your "Graveyard Cars" dig. So true! Mark would have an absolute cow, if he saw the way you build cars! My opinion is you are far superior in content. My "low buck" is in the mail, keep up the great work!!
I can see the armchair numbers-match-o-crats losing their minds over someone painting a Mopar engine with a non-Mopar color. Do it! Watching their heads spin is fun!
as a cheaper alternative to Brake Kleen if you can get denatured alcohol and put it in a spray bottle it cuts grease and it also evaporates water, a gallon of denatured goes along way and as a bonus if its left on paint wet it will loosen up most paints.
I am liking the editing as you get to the good stuff! So encouraging how you and JD make it happen and sharing the love! What a surprise to see Junkyard show up!
Nice cleanup on the engine. Looks like that 440 has a cast crank. The compression on those is abysmally low, '77-'78 was in the 7.5:1 range and earlier it was supposed to be 8.2-8.4:1 but rarely ever was. It was usually 1/2 below whatever the spec was. The motorhome trans is much more heavy duty than that Fury trans. They used to tweak the transmissions based on the engine, usage, and power output. Yes, you can change the tail housing but you're going to have to change the output shaft too which would require a complete teardown of both transmissions. You need to pull everything out from the pump end in the front. It's not as bad as it sounds. Just about any year Chrysler shop manual has the teardown procedure. If you're going to be beating on it I would give serious consideration to using that motorhome tranny. It's not as bad as it sounds. I've torn down TH400's TH350's TF727's and TF904's before. There's more clutch packs and wider bands in the truck trans plus the line pressure and kickdown apply lever has a higher ratio for faster 1-2 shift. The rear sprag is a weak point on those and I'm not certain but the MH trans might have more rollers. Btw, the HP engines were the only ones painted orange, the standard perf were blue or aqua-green. I used to get my cleaners and chemicals at the dollar store too. I noticed their oven cleaner was made in China. Good luck!
@@PoleBarnGarage Yah, it is pretty involved. One thing I forgot to mention is the torque convertors. They changed the input shaft spline in 1967. So '67-up is the same, '66 down different. Don't know what year that Fury was. I think the motor home may have had more stall for torque multiplication. The drive (flex) plate is specific to the toque conv dia. The B&M are drilled for many.
@@PoleBarnGarage Most were internally balanced. The 440 6bbl and some forged cranks were external. You can tell by the torque convertor. If you filp it and look at the ENGINE side and if there are small weights welded near the ring if it's external. If not internal balance. They neutral balance the converter itself with 'shim' weights on the TC case itself. Any weight near the ring gear is engine balance weight. The harmonic damper would also have what looks like and offset eliptical ring near the front.
@@PoleBarnGarage I just checked my DC engine book. You are right it is externally balanced. B&M used to make a flexplate that put the balance weight (engine) on the flexplate so you could use any neutral balance converter or knock the weights off an external one. Most of the 360 4bbl HD engines used hi stall converters. EDIT: The flexpate is pn 10237, still available. BTW, you can use any non-lockup 727 converter ('67-up), even from a small block. Guys would use the 340 converter for 440's because it had a higher stall.
I just found out a couple of months ago that a $20 propane torch would heat exhaust nuts enough to break them free. You might give that a try next time you need to moose something off. 😊
Great video. JD has become quite a bit of help to you. He may follow in your footsteps. Good to see Kevin and Mook. Yes, a cold beer helped. Thanks for sharing!

To plug the intake and exhaust ports on Moper big block heads while cleaning or painting, Go to the dollar store and buy a package of small scrubber sponges. Cut in half, they fit perfectly in the ports with the scrubber side facing out, and keep crud out of the ports. Why not use the pan and pickup off the 383 if they're passenger car items?
Wrinkle paint those valve covers. My dad had a 69 Roadrunner but had to sell it when my sister and I went to live with him. I'm sure he was devastated.

I'm digging the "pumpkin effect" and the return of Bonehead Carz. Looking forward to more as always.
How could television compete with UA-cam channels.
This is a hundred times better than television;!! It is incomparable..
Good luck with the rest of the build. Maybe you and junk yard digs can build together sometime 🤔
Thinking it might happen
Feel your pain on the oil pan thats my party piece ordering wrong parts usually on a Sunday when no stores are open
Some of those motorhome 440s were 10 to 1 compression 375 horse. Same with Chrysler Imperial 440s. They are desirable.
Not by 1978
gotchya bro. i talk often of the bullet-riddled 70'
Thank you my friend! It was as cheap as I could make it, figure we're stronger together!
Excellent idea!
Good luck!
Good info. I'll probably have my trans guy swap em over
@@PoleBarnGarage Yah, it is pretty involved.
440 is externally balanced so I need a 440 converter right? Fury was a 67 or 68 so maybe I'm good
@@PoleBarnGarage Most were internally balanced.
“I put that shit on everything”😂😂❤️
The build is looking awesome, you guys will have a lot of fun with that 440 , they have a ton of torque!
Yep, the car has 3.55s and a sure grip in it too. Gonna be a blast
I just found out a couple of months ago that a $20 propane torch would heat exhaust nuts enough to break them free. You might give that a try next time you need to moose something off. 😊
Great stuff - thank you!
Chevy Orange and Cummins Tan would look mint👌🎃
Great video. JD has become quite a bit of help to you. He may follow in your footsteps. Good to see Kevin and Mook. Yes, a cold beer helped. Thanks for sharing!
JD's my number one go to man. Knows his stuff better than most
Looking really good, I think the car transmission would be in the best shape it hauled a lot lighter load, like how you have your son jump in and is learning some of the ropes.
Looking good, purple power works good on cleaning off the gunk
Try Fitting up the pick up tube and oil pan from the 383 and don't forget to reuse the windage tray.
Did you miss the video where I found the pan to be rotten off the 383 and stabbed a fence post through it with ease?
@@PoleBarnGarage Yeah, I guess I did. Sorry.
Super good as usual. I Always enjoy your adventures
I’ve been switched on to your channel for awhile now and I love your approach to your builds you just get it done. It was also good to see Kevin and Mook call in and support you and JD awesome couple awesome channels. Keep keeping it real!. 🤘😎
Would, but it's rotted through
Wrinkle paint those valve covers. My dad had a 69 Roadrunner but had to sell it when my sister and I went to live with him. I'm sure he was devastated.
Good idea. $15 a can though! Did it to my Vette last year
Those engine stands work better if you heavily grease the pivot1. At least they spin easier
Great to see this ride coming together!
Scaring your own and me! Knock it off Clark!🥊
