- Just putting some miles on mini with the supercharger. Bill Jr bought a minitruck so he drove it over. I checked to see if the 5 speed will fit, NOPE. Then we do a little race to compare the stock Hijet to a boosted Hijet, Mini is WAY faster!! Then stopped up to Freshco for some lunch and back home.

Under 3 grand for a running, driving mini truck in good shape with lift, wheels, and tires? Holy schnikeys he stole that thing! 😮
He did! Was half that... 😁🧀🧀
@@MotoCheez Crazy! People are so proud of these things now on the prices, I thought about putting my Carry up for sale. Can't part with it, though. These trucks are so fun.
I know! Too fun
Seen the crew cab truck? they look nice 😁
Yes. When I bought mine he had to there and one was sold and the other one did not have a rear locker so I passed on it but yeah it's pretty nice little bigger but the bed is shorter
A bigger oil cooler would add oil and drop temps a bit. That would be a noticeable difference..
Mini is definitely "THE LEADER OF THE PACK" Mighty Mini, thre fastest tiny truck around... can't wait to see how fast she is when she gets the rest of her upgrades.
Another good video cheez. Supercharger series has been awesome.
Your wife: "You think you're hot shit now?"
Mini: "Yes I am!" 🔥💩
Haha. Yep!😁🧀🧀

Old thread, but some info. A 3L belt is the equivalent of an automotive 13/15 series .440/.465 width raw sided belt. the 4L is the equivalent of the 17 series raw sided .500 width belts. the auto / industrial belts are also measured differently, so be aware. The aramid industrial belts are designed for slippage and overall durability, whereas the raw sided automotive belts are designed to keep slippage to a minimum at the expense of durability and wear resistance.
I always knew them as 3L 3/8" 4L 4/8" or 1/2" and 5L 5/8" as a maintenance mechanic 20 years
I used to run commercial mowers and when we'd need a new belt in a pinch an auto belt would work for both drive and blade. However, it would break in half the time. I remember the branded belts for the mower were twice the price but far more durable. I know that doesn't help but, that's my experience.
Ditto, I've done same with same results lol. The kevlar belts are stiffer but 2x as strong
Mad Cheez, the Road Warrior!
Awesome truck!
Thanks!
YAY!
Thanks mate just made my Sunday morning. What's up mini truck.
Love mini truck adventures. Get the mini bike on there mate will complete the look.
Hehe. I've had the Hellcougar on back a few times
Hey Mr. Cheez, long time viewer, I have a little info about belts:
--Yes, the cross section between a power-equipment belt is different than an automotive belt. specifically, the Power equipment belts are more square. A little less self-centering, and as you surmised, the profile does wear a lot more on break in. That being said, they do seem to wear in after lots of tightening. Also tend to be less efficient at shedding heat.
--Biggest thing I am aware of, an automotive belt can go around a smaller radius than a power-equipment belt. The more distinct v-profile of an automtoive-type allows more room for expansion on the inside radius. As I recall, minimum diameter for a pwoer-equipment belt if 4".
--Automotive-type belts are more designed for heat-dissipation, and sustained high-speed flex around small pulleys. But! because of the cross-section, they are not good at reverse-radius-- i.e. back-side belt tensioning.
So yeah, there's a few other thing, but that's the high points as I understand them. I suspect a 4L-series belt will work just fine in this application, Hot sure how much I would want to go down the interstate in the middle f summer, but that's not going to happen anyways. :)
Hope it helps, Cheez!
3L fits best.gates said the kevlar V belt is for back pulley unlike automotive belt. Diameter less because stiffer and kevlar takes the heat so much better.
Love it....
Mini Ying-yang Spinney Thang!!
I'm using a lawnmower v belt as well on my supercharger with no problems. It's actually been holding up for 1.5 years now. Lawnmower belts are made to withstand a lot more abuse than a car belt.
This one has as well and it's too wide, got the 3L in today, going on tomorrow, tensioner too possibly
@@MotoCheez nice, I still need to add a tensioner to mine. I also need to do a video on my build just a little lazy lol
Yeah man do the video!
@@DangerDave95 Just subscribed to your channel . . . thanks, Cheez, your vids and the comment sections have put me on to watching some really good content.
they are deff 3L belt pullys. my xl7300 belts from napa have needed to be tensioned 3x now but i think its partially due to az heat.
killin it!
The year is on the tag on the seat belt.
I'll tell him
It's a 97!
Mini gonna audition for the next Fast and furious movie? Starring Vin Cheezel

I think the mower belt will work just great. I have a 1995 hijet with ac. It a 5 speed with high/low and four wheel drive. I enjoy driving it so much that I don't want to drive my full size truck. It is so much fun.
They are a blast!! The 3L matched up almost perfectly to the OEM that was on there. Case closed!
I'm in Florida but you don't bring the truck. I would go cruising
welp, its official. you inspired me. got my amr500 on the way. if it aint broke, fix it till it is.

Loved it awesome the belt is fine with what they do on lawn mowers is just as stressful as what you are using it for but I do want to see how you put on that Tensioner🧀🧀🧀🤯😅
I might get to it tomorrow. The other gauge came in too

She did say something about my drive shaft being longer, since you missed that....I think the belt is fine, but , then again, what the hell do I know, it works, and you've got a few more behind the seat...Bingo..Another fine run for Mini...And Mama approved...

Hmmmm, given the rise in the 'mini-population' maybe you start planning a mini-truck gettogether sometime in the Spring. < that would give enough lead time to consider a date, and a venue.
Who knows, it could be a thing... 😉
I could.. I missed one last year because I went to FL. I'm a spur of the moment guy, but I do post on Instagram where I decide to go. Usually have people in bikes find us as we ride

mini is kicking a$$ & taking numbers; good to see after all your hard work. by the way, i used your linky-link & registered with rumble; thanks, cheezy!
Yes! Awesome thanks!
8:15 - Many times, the best way to find the mini truck manufacture year and month is to look at the tag on the seat belts.
9:25 - The six digit odometer with the leading zero has not been rolled over, although sometimes the dash is replaced and that rolls them back. Looking at the pedals, shift knob, shifter boot and steering wheel, it appears consistent with 62,000 km, but looking at the rust, it looks like someone has been driving it in the northeast where the roads are salted without a good anti-corrosion treatment. That rust is car cancer. Fix it soon or it'll quickly get away from you.
10:25 - The extra switch panels on the dash are for the phaser and photon torpedo options not installed in your Hijet.
10:40 - The dash looks good except for that grungy hole on the far right side. The pictures of the Hijet that I bought seemed to have a piece of tape in the same location. Maybe that's a common problem area? Maybe the dash is eaten from the back side by sloshed brake fluid from the reservoir? I'll probably install a cup holder over that spot in mine. :-)
15:15 - The chassis number on my Hijet is S110P-092772, and it was manufactured in May of 1996. S110P-153228 should be quite a bit newer than mine, maybe 1997? That's getting close to the 25+ year old requirement for import for on road use in the US. Maybe it was imported for off road use and registered after it was 25 years old? Maybe somebody fibbed to the DMV to register a truck that hadn't reached its 25th birthday?
I did that, but they must have changed the seat belts, said 95, but it's a 93. Yes. Pedals a good way!
Phazer option!
Mini has the need for speed!
I got #16. OMG.. His looks almost like Mini back in the day.. Even has the missing battery cover..... Question.. Can you recommend a 120 volt mig welder??
I like the Everlast welders, miller quality at harbor freight prices. Kinda
I put a 190 / 212 in my grom clone after watching your videos, they helped immensely.
Now I'm fighting the urge to look up used mini trucks near me 😂
As always thanks for the banger man! Whatever happened to whitey?
Awesome!
Whitey chilling in my garage. Weather been too cold, I missed the one day it was 60 to ride because I was working on mini.
@@MotoCheez 'tis the season I suppose. I'll keep an eye out for whitey in the background 👍
I wonder if you can calibrate Mini using your GPS?
The speedometer app I use in the console is GPS, it's just slow updating.
Bad ass!
theres steve!!!
Yes
Just got my uncles Subaru sambar running last week and took it around. Man I've missed a right hand drive stick
It's great ain't it!
Man I wish I could find a deal like that mini. Seems like now that are becoming popular the prices are going through the roof!!
Yes they are!
I was lucky . . . I got mine from a dude who buys unopened shipping containers at auction. In one of his purchases he found a kei van packed all the way in the back. He didn’t know what to do with it, so I bought it for a steal. I’d always wanted one since the first time I went to Japan. Just keep your peepers open, and, hopefully, a good deal will fall in your lap.
It's still possible to find deals on mini trucks if you're willing to import one but it's a hassle. I bought a used 1996 Daihatsu Hijet, 4WD with HI/LO transfer case in what looks like very good condition (almost no rust, dents, etc.) for $370 but it cost $2010 for the seller to clean it to pass USDA importation inspection and ship it from Yokohama to Newport News Virginia. Like almost everything else the last couple of years, overseas freight has gotten much more expensive.
There will be a few hundred dollars in taxes and various port fees, and my 16 hour round trip in my 4Runner to trailer the Hijet home will cost around $300 in gas. I'll need to pay a little more to the state to register the Hijet to get a license plate, but I should be all it for around $3200 on the road for a well maintained 4WD Hijet with 45,000 miles, not including insurance from Hagerty (GEICO wouldn't touch it). Add another $300 for a Monstaliner bed lining "paint" job inside and out, a few hundred for a good coil over lift kit (or you could make 2" spacers or buy a spacer kit for almost nothing, $650 for five 25X8R12 Tusk Terrabite tires, maybe $30 to clean up and powder coat the steel rims, $200-$300 for a kick ass Bluetooth stereo with a backup camera... and it's still well under what mini trucks are selling for in the US. I saw a Honda Acty sell on Bring A Trailer a couple of weeks ago for an insane $24,000. W... T... F....
The other hard part about importing is the wait. It's been almost a month since I paid for my Hijet and it's still sitting in Yokohama. Once it's on the boat, it'll be another month getting here. Many people report that importing takes three months. The wait is killing me. It also means my fall project won't get here until winter, which means I'll drive it stock during the winter and do the upgrades in the spring.
Anyone driving an old mini truck where the roads are salted needs to protect the frame and undercarriage. I'd wire brush off any loose rust and use a good rust reformer. Options include Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer in the rattle can, or brush on a product such as POR-15 or Chassis Saver by Monstaliner. Then spray the entire undercarriage with a lanolin based corrosion inhibitor such as Surface Shield or Fluid Film, inside box frames too wherever possible. Reapply the outside coating every year or two.
Mini is kicking Arse and taking names 😁👍
Lmfao. Had someone call me Vin Cheezle in comments. 😂😆🧀🧀 I'ma use that one
@@MotoCheez Hahahaha when you went to hit the boost to pass ur buddy I thought 🤔 💭 of that clip of Vin Diesel and the 68-69 Dodge Charger when he went to beat the train 🚊! @@MotoCheez 😂👍
Those belts were used as far back as the 1930s and well into the 60s on McCulloch / Paxton superchargers because Gilmer belts were known for delaminating and destroying all kinds of shit. They eventually welded 3 pulleys together and used 3 belts on race cars because the belt slippage was so bad but it was still safer and cheaper than cog belts. When you go to Florida you should put mini in a safe space because I sense a lot of tension between Mrs. Cheez & her. I don't want any Fatal Attraction incidents happening! )
I didn't know that.. good info
Seat belts have a date on the tag
Found it there. It's a 1997
I’d use the belt. It would be similar to many modern cars that use belts for their cam shafts with a tensioner.
New 3L belt came in and installed. Compared to OEM belt. Almost identical!
@@MotoCheez what I was thinking is that it should have a longer wear life. I think the new belt uses a better internal structure to reduce stretch with use. But I could be wrong.

Much like that gauge, after thanksgiving I’m gonna be like a pound off or 5

Have the same mini as your friend, want to do the carb swap but I don’t know if the one you used will work on my engine. It’s the ENFS but I don’t know how different it is from the s80’s to the s110. Any suggestions for finding a bigger carb that fits?
I believe they use the same engine and carburetor configuration is my mini, so it should work
@@MotoCheez okay thanks I’m going to give it a try
the belt will work just fine i use them on all my toys .
Look at the seatbelt. The seatbelt has the year on the little white tag
Thanks it's a 98. So many knew that and I didn't. Lol
No problem! Glad to help!!
If the belt works it works. If it fails and you have to put your spare on to limp home then it doesn't work. If you get a shorter life than you expect, them find a different belt to try.
I just did it for the first time so I want to see how long it's going to last if it keeps stretching I guess I'll have to change it to its own pulley and I might do a cog bell with a tensioner
Well, I think I'm going to save up for a Mini Truck.
😆😂
Would a cogged belt be any better? Is it an A series or B series belt?
Not sure, it's a 3/8 wide. Whatever handles the heat and HP best
@@MotoCheez Yeah true..man that little compressor turned mini into a mini beast!
EFI Upgradein the future, to minimise the "COLD START" problem?
Nothing I can find that' doesn't cost thousands. 3 cylinder is the hard find for EFI.
Just picked up a fuel injected one I wonder if it’d be easier to boost one like this.
Possibly if you could find larger injectors. Unless the stock ones will output 40% more fuel
@@MotoCheez currently going through most of your videos. Realizing you’re in ct, me too!

Year should be on the driver side seatbelt. Pull it out, should be a tag on bottom.
I didn't know that, another guy said that he's going out right now to see what the year is
It's a 97!
What is the shape of your tensioner? It's a common failure/maintenance item in automobiles.
It's a V belt system, I bought a tensioner to hel maintain tension but haven't installed yet.
Measure the gauges any way and tell us maybe one of us has a 3d printer and would be willing to make you some mounts
keep it at 5-6 psi. any more you might get into trouble. mine is on a fresh factory reman.shipped from japan. keeping mine at 5psi for looong life
I've had a few ppl send video of a guy doing 29psi and it held it. I'm keeping 6, maybe 9 on a short blip once in a while.
I'd be more worried about a backfire through the carb turning the intercooler into a bomb.
Exactly, that too.
Ender 3 pro, sub $200 definitely a good value 3d printer
I looked at that one when shopping around.
green belts and brown belts are much stronger than fan belts aka fhp belts. they are made for delivering horse power.
I have a 1999 Kia Towner (LHD dump truck) which is the same as Daihatsu Hijet, it has the same ingine as your friend but I don't know how many cc I have. Is your friend 660cc?

20:40 "It's amazing what boost will do" amen to that cheeze. I ended up getting a Subaru wagon with a 2.0l twin turbo. My last car was a 06 charger R/T with the 5.7l Hemi. The Subaru isn't quite as fast but it's pretty dang close. Considering the Subie is just a little over 1/3rd the displacement I'm plenty happy. It also helps with the cost of fuel here too. ( It's about $5us/gallon where I live)

Maybe look into a methanol injection kit.
I was thinking of putting heat sinks on the metal charge tube was.looking them up last night...
@@MotoCheez good idea, also putting heat wrap on the header. Cooler is always better.
It's been tested and proved putting a Crank case evec pump on gains hp. Not sure if that will be the case with your engine but I gained 50 ho on mine with it. If possible get the intake pipe away from the heat in the engine bay. Anything to get colder air in you should see gains with boost. The methanol injection is cool it's basically windshield wiper fluid with a jet put into the intake pipe. Simple and effective. A windage tray in the oil pan can produce gains as well. Keeps excess oil off the crank. These are things that made gains for race engine's. Again I am not familiar with your engine but worth looking into. I can see you port and polishing the intake and head in the future. Or at least gasket matching the head. Or get real froggy and dimple the intake like a golf ball. The dimples are the reason the ball will fly a smooth ball will not. I'm sure you knew that.
@@MotoCheez also there are better spark plugs for boost, they keep the spark from blowing out when adding more air into the mix. I used to cut the strap back a little helps get a better angle for ignition or mark the spark plugs so that the spark is pointing at the intake valve and not the exhaust valve. These are just little tricks that may see some gains. And of course get a k&N intake filter or the best flowing one you can get.
@@MotoCheez I also used to cut a hole on the top of the cap to see the rotor to make sure it was sparkling right on the post, alot of times the spark is after the post and stretch's the spark out of sink. Not sure if you have a cap and rotor though. Also I used 8mm 50 ohm spark plug wires. They were the least resistance ones I could find.
It does have a cap n rotor. All stock still
