Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

Their base now is truelly everlasting
Rodney O, and Joe Cooley My Niggas! They were HUGE in Dallas,Tx mane, and soon after that Me, My Mom's, and Little Brother end up there in Cali, and it was on!
One of if not the most underrated groups in rap history!
I was always a fan of Rodney O and Joe Cooley back in the day. Shout out to the big homie. Cool interview Soren B.

Rodney O, Joe Cooley & General Jeff...word up!
Underrated cats! Peace!
Damn, Soren! I love it that I log on to UA-cam first thing in the morning and I get see my dude, R.O. being interviewed! Legendary figure that we don't speak of enough! They spend a stupid amount of time in Oakland!
Another good one here!
Rodney O, Joe Cooley, and General Jeff are legends and should never be forgotten when it comes to West coast Hip Hop. Many trunks where 12 and 15 inch subwoofers were beatin'down the block.
man in florida...my cuzz had 18 inch woofers behind the back seats
Everlasting bass is the top west coast song of all time.
Yeah Rodney O should have been on Same Gang he represented the West coast faithfully and he had his own style of rhyme which fit right in 🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤💯
Loved Rodney O and Joe Cooley! "This is for the homies" EWF sample was epic. Thanks for this interview
Fucking real Hiphop legends killing most this bs out now...dead up!!!
One of the most underrated groups in hip hop history. These guys are in my top 5
He is just as cool as ever! Peace!
Not from Cali but i knew about Rodney O Joe Coolie thank to the record pool i was in. When i got the lp. i was blown away on the scratching skills on that record from Down goes another, This is for the homies & Everlasting bass but couldn't figured out your scratching skills. But it was dope with the samples you used on the songs. I put Rodney O Joe Coolie in my cassette mixes & pop it in my boom box & blast it a round the lake that was are hang out. We pump there music at house parties. But my favorite was U don't hear me tho. Just this tidal of this has stuck to me threw out today & i've used it when someone over talks me & i say it & then walk away. I myself enjoyed what they had put out in music still have the record & some 12" singles. If last yr we herd from Paris so maybe we'll hear from Rodney O Joe Cooley again ?
Back then I was head DJ at Studio G,A huge Rodney O & Joe Cooley fan,We had started a Bass movement,Couldn’t have happened without Everlasting Bass.At the time Me,Juicy J,Slisce T,Squeeky,Rated R,Just Born,Zerk,we’re all in the same place on a given night!Man,The stories I could tell you……..
Dope interview! That would have been so dope if Rodney O & Joe Cooley would have been on "We're All In The Same Gang", too bad. Can't wait for Part 4
Just like how "Triggerman" is from Hollis Queens and it blew up in New Orleans.
Good point
Memphis as well,I was there.
Rodney O & Joe Cooley shoulda hooked up with LUKE!
Rodney O and Joe Cooley are right next to NWA, Ice T and King Tee when it comes to this west coast pioneer mount Rushmore type stuff! -Snupe
Don’t worry, legend
We saw you and we see you
✊✊🙏🙏
Get ready to roll, I would say is my favorite albums they did
DJ JOE COOLEY AND RODNEY-O: TRUE SCHOOL PIONEERS OF THE WEST COAST.
General Jeff too...he was a part of the crew.
I was mad because them and too Short wasn't on we're all in the same gang.
Dope Interview, Dope Mc& DJ
Bass Culture is huge in the South..my homie told me that peeps in ATL go crazy on "Everlasting Bass".
He sho right bout internet and phones now. Kid would lose their minds if they had a house phone when long distance cost hella, and beepers, you had to go to the damn pay phone, you better have some change! Lol
A lot of reflection from my guy here, dope interview. I like when the old schoolers open up.
Caught me off guard with the Memphis stuff at the beginning. I'm from Memphis and we was bumping the hell out of some Rodney O and Joe Cooley. They definitely caught on there. For years, I thought them dudes was from the South like Miami or something.
Me Too, I thought they were Miami rappers
Rodney O👑 Should be Hip Hop Hall of Fame, with DJ Joe Cooley👑 too. Glad to see Rodney O admit his mistakes.
Awesome. Hails to Rodney and Joe. Busting like a 44 magnum.
Dope from late 80s..
Give me the mic, this party's boring
I see some people snoring
The girlies wanna leave and the homeboys ain't scoring
The people in the crowd, they started getting loud
They want their money back and they want it right now
The dance floor was deserted, the DJ's were worried
They needed help fast, quick, and in a hurry
They started yelling "More," the god split the door
It was now my chance to say my rhymes galore
Give me the mic 🎤🎙️
I was in Brazil in 88, 89 don’t even remember exactly. I saw the name of Rodney 0 & Joe Cooley around the city, saw them live in probably one of the worse clubs I ever came across!
Everlasting bass forever!
Everlasting bass was the first song I heard from Rodney O and Joe Cooley! I loved NWA, but Rodney O and Sir Mix a lot, kinda changed me to west coast rap for real! I was already hooked on the south bass anyway! The east coast hip hop still own it's own though. All due respect
Love to hear an artist tell it like it is.He could of sat here and placed any of his errors on someone else.RO & JC still get play here.Much Love,we gonna let them woofers bark forever.
Long Distance phone calls werent free in 1990!
I swore these guys were from Florida.
me too
my cuzz.from whigham ga
used to bump they music back then during family reunions
Yeah they should of been on that record 🤦🏿♂️
All Rodney O & Joe Cooley Albums R Super Slamming. And Their Album With Atlantic Records Was Excellent I Still Have All Their Albums
Yep, "Three The Hard Way" is one of my favorites! From beginning to end!
@@deecry8087 I Still Have That On Cassette From Atlantic Records
