Rabbit meets wild rabbit - WHAT WILL HAPPEN?

- A tiny pet bunny rabbit goes outside for the first time! It is almost a feat too incredible to believe! Pigpoke is a free range rabbit / free roam rabbit in the confines of his home, but whenever he is given the opportunity to explore the wider world (i.e. go outside), he runs in the other direction! Pigpoke is an adopted rabbit, and he was found abandonded outside, so it's likely he has some trauma associated with the outdooors. We would like to show that if we are with him, he can play and luxuriate to his heart's content.
This was Pigpoke's second day of going outside. This time he got near the wild rabbit and they played and chased each other!
Adopted rabbit Pigpoke is still learning and still doesn't trust the outside. He is a bit of a scared rabbit / angry rabbit, and likes hanging out under things. He was finally coaxed out, and met a wild rabbit in the yard!
As background on Pigpoke - We adopted a rabbit! So far, the adopted rabbit sometimes loves us and sometimes hates us. It's half and half at present. We thought we were good at rabbit petting, rabbit feeding, and rabbit holding, and most other rabbit care activities, but we have now realized that we are actually not that good with rabbits, we were just good with Pipkin rabbit. To be blunt, after adopting this new rabbit, we realize we have no special rabbit skills, but we will do our best, and endeavor to get Adopted Rabbit (newly named Pigpoke!) to love us as much as we love him! Maybe one day we can even make a rabbit learns he is adopted video.
Thanks for checking out Pipkin, Pigpoke, and our rabbit channel. We hope you think Pipkin and Pigpoke are the the cutest rabbits ever. Pipkin really enjoyed making videos - ASMR videos in particular! We don't know what Pigpoke likes yet, but hopefully he likes eating! Pipkin and Pigpoke are both a free range rabbit / free roam rabbit and we all enjoy making cute rabbit videos. This was Pigpoke's second day of making it outside! His rabbit friend was back again! Hooray! We are not sure what is happening, however! If you have a thought, let us know! As always, thank you for watching! :D
Both are cute🥰
I would say "Lagomorphs assemble" 😍😂
He's telling the wild bunny "this yard ain't big enough for the two of us!" 🤠
Rabbits are very territorial but also the best thing you can do for the bun is bond it with another one. So he’s either trying to play/court or chase it away. However rabbits can really injure one another so be very careful.
Not sure but my bet would be wild bun is also a male as they are the ones that stay outside the burrow to guard it.
I'm thinking it's Pigpoke's version of, "Geeat oofff maaaaaaa LAAAAAAANNNNNNDDD!! Varmint!!"
One is camouflaged to blend in with dirt, one is camouflaged to blend in with Oreos. Nature is crazy!

I never thought the black and white rabbit was gonna run that fast. So crazy.. obv still no match for the wild one, who is used to running for it's life
Rabbits run soooo fast. I have a Flemish Giant. She's the size of a small dog. She's bigger than my Chorkie. She runs round my living room like lightening but the crazy thing is, she knows exactly how to turn or stop in a split second to avoid running into something. It's cool to watch an animal that big run so fast.

I love how, despite the fact that the wild rabbit is probably much more stronger than Pigpoke, he was still trying to one-up it! :D
Really? The wild rabbit looks tiny compared the Pigpoke, like half his size. The wild rabbit is probably faster but not stronger. Also it probably doesn’t have as good a diet and as a result is thinner and probably weaker too.
Pet bunny was displaying a dominant posture. Straight back high ears and a chase, was letting the wild bunny know who's grass he was eating. 😎👍

Pigpoke is adorable, but his color likely startles the other rabbit. I'd like to see what happens when the wild rabbit realizes that pigpoke is one of him. I'll be watching!!! We had house chickens who had strollers, diapers, and went out to restaurants and lived as people. The best part was watching when wild birds were around, their amazement at these entitled (and amazingly fat) birds who were pushed around in strollers and ate their owner's food. They were obviously curious how the hens managed to train us LOL.
Wild rabbit: Comfort has weighed you down
Pet rabbit: He's so fast
Yep, you can definitely see the difference between a domestic rabbit and a wild one here. That wild rabbit can sure run fast! Glad Pigpoke seems to be doing fine under your care.
Doubt he woukd be able to run for long that's a disadvantage to domesticated animals
Well duh the other one is fat and larger lol
Idk they looked like they had the same speed
@@primewinxxy2288 The wild rabbit can dash off more rapidly than Pigpoke can. Pigpoke also doesn't maneuver himself as gracefully. It is to be expected from a domestic rabbit bred for looks and a relatively calm demeanor.
The Domestic rabbits are from a European branch of rabbits and don't even contain similar enough DNA with the Cotton Tail in the Americas, they can't even breed together, not viably anyway.
All I can say is, have you ever seen Watership Down? Rabbits are surprisingly territorial and savage af. Best to ensure our wild cohort is not around before letting Pigpoke out in the future. Rabbits will fight to the death and since it won't be in a small, contained and supervised area like you'd do for rabbit bonding, you won't be able to easily break up the fight. There could be deadly consequences. It's no joke! I have a scar from having to break up a rabbit fight, and that one happened in a controlled setting.
Not only are they incredibly territorial but wild rabbits are insanely dirty in that they can't get vaccinated and regular care against viruses and ailments that your house bun can - not all vets will vaccinate house rabbits either. Between the chronic wasting disease (chronic hemorrhage? I forget what it's called but it's nasty) and the ticks and fleas that wild rabbit is a hopping infection hotspot who, as a prey animal, will never show that it's sick until it's literally dying.
@@ollieworth7341 Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease, or RHD
@@kelseysm3555 thank you! i think chronic wasting disease is actually deer, just couldnt remember the name of it. i did google it after commenting but forgot to edit.
iirc its [RDH] mostly in the western states but theres been possible infections in canada, feel like i remember reading about that when i got my two bunnies got their checkup. i think it was alberta? though looking at a tracking map as far back as 2020 there are a few cases around the gulf of mexico, in florida, Georgia, and as far as montgomery even. even with a vaccinated house rabbit i'd still be worried about my bun becoming a potential carrier and causing an outbreak with the shelters, vets, other owners and even causing more harm to the wild population of rabbits in my area even with other diseases that arent specifically RHD
AAAA love that book! I think the name pipkin (their old rabbit) was from there
@@ollieworth7341 You're right my Vet. wouldn't Vax. my bun. She said in her exp. If indoors it's not necessary, plus the fact they dont always live long lives. Shes got yrs. Behind her, but I have to say I was surprised. Rabbits hide illnesses so well.
My pet rabbits used to do the same with the neighborhood cat, when it would stroll through our garden. It was surrounded by a thick hedge and had lots of natural cover, so they were given the run of the place, whenever anyone was outside or in the kitchen.
They were two males (litter mates) and very curious and confident.
They would just hop towards the cat to investigate it....and the cat would inevitably flee. Sometimes chased by the rabbits.
At first we were apprehensive about the situation, but nothing ever happened in 10+ years.
Just make sure, wild rabbits in your area don't carry dangerous diseases or something.
It doesn’t look like Pigpoke has slept through any dinner bells. He’s a keeper.
Yes keeper, inside
We had a similar situation in our backyard when an injured wild rabbit was brought to us to recover with our five domestic rabbits. They had their well-established pecking order and tried to place the wild one in it. He was much too fast for them, so they eventually agreed among themselves that he would not count as a rabbit. They tried to just ignore him. He eventually fully recovered and left through the chain-link. It was surprising to learn that he could have left at any time but chose to stay for three months.
Hell, free food safe, warm. Freedom and rights. A sliding scale At the extremes, an animal in a zoo has no (or not much) freedom but the right to food, medical care and safety. An animal in the wild has complete freedom but no rights to anything much. In our human society we fight and yell up and down that scale. Look at the reaction to Covid vaccinations and mandates.
@@kitthearty Well said. I didn't expect that kind of insight from comments on a rabbit video on UA-cam. 😀

Terry Hale Start what you said with Once upond a time and you'll have an amazing children book! Love the way you describe it.
@@aannunnaki7500 Absolutely loved having rabbits. And...You're right. Could fill several children's books. One of my favorites was when Hazel got Scooter pregnant. Something like a week later, she got nesting fever: the uncontrollable, driven urge to prepare a nice nest for her coming brood. I had already made a plywood nesting box for her and loved sneaking the top off periodically to see what progress she had made. She started with small twigs to get the space right, then added leaves and dead grass for padding. Finally, she began lining it with her own loose fur pulled from her chest and arms. I happened to be there when she spotted a huge clump of fur in front of her and blindly grabbed a big chunk and yanked. Poor Hazel jumped about two feet in the air and squealed. Scooter instantly realized what she had done and darted away.

The wild one probably had to move much faster so he won’t end up being dinner. Pigpoke is the cutest.
In my town back in the 80's some pet rabbits got out and mingled with the wild ones. We had many non-brown coloured rabbits on the roundabouts and fields over a mile area. My relatives thought it was interesting to be passing the main roundabout and seeing (what they thought) was half a dozen pet rabbits munching grass with a dozen wild ones. The differently coloured rabbits existed for nearly two decades, still we see the occasional black one but they could be from the purebreds.
Cool. Buy some more rabbits and do it again
Hello Max yeah you are right, black colour wild rabbits are quite common as black is a dominant colour genes wise, were as white is not so its very rare to see a white rabbit in the wild ( or a white any type of animal really)...cheers now
@@celestialbeing5291 No, do not do that.
Were your domestic pet rabbits as slow & wide as this Oreo? I’m asking for a friend. 🤣🤣
That is rather odd, assuming you are in the US. Domesticated rabbits and wild American rabbits are not the same species, have differing chromosome count, and cannot crossbreed. All domesticated rabbits are descended from European rabbits, an entirely different species from others in the world. However, noticing your "roundabout" references, I'm wondering if you are in fact, in the UK, since roundabouts are not very common on our side of the "pond".
My guess is Pigpoke was playing and having fun while the wild rabbit was suspicious and frightened. Wild rabbits often have ticks and communicable illnesses so it's best Mr. Wild is so good at Keep-Away. I remember Pipkin flying out to the backyard like Superman!
The other problem with wild rabbits is they can carry and will die from Rabbit Hemoragic Disease. Don't let Pigpoke get too close!
Pretty sure that was a chase. Mr Pigpoke didn't like having an intruder so he chased him away, you can even hear the aggressive grunting noises as he chases the wild rabbit.
Male rabbits are surprisingly territorial and sometimes have pretty brutal fights.
Careful he doesn't get too close wild bunnies carry a virus that can be fatal for domesticated bunnies
@@voro8298 my female rabbit too lol, she’s spayed and the only pet in the home. extremely territorial, humps stuffed animals and often grunts at me when I feed her 😑
Um no I would not guess that!
Well, Oreo sure can run fast. I wasn't expecting that sprint.
The wild one is so much faster then the other ones ever had to be
Pigpoke was trying to tell the wild bunny “Go away , this is my territory. Male rabbits are very territorial, and a good thing that he did not get close to wild thing, because they do carry diseases and we don’t want Pigpoke get sick. I have to admit this was hilarious watching him chase wild thing. 😂🤣
Not as bad as females on a small scale. This is why they make better pets than does. They can get very vicious and territorial around their bedding area, as if they are nesting.
The domestic rabbit more than likely also has their shots for those diseases.
This diplomatic summit is going well, I see...
*Cue the Benny Hill chase music!*
I'd love to have a summit with Pigpoke over a vegetable or fruit of his choice
When you think about it, this is like a housecat chasing a tiger, except it’s mild and everyone wins. 😸 And a better name is ‘Pet Bunny Chases a Wild Rabbit’ ✌🏽🐰
Tiger?. There are many other smaller wild cats too you know lol
Adorable. Wild one is much to fast for him...lol. they are having a wonderful time. Love the name .
the difference in speed is incredible! don’t realise how fast wild rabbits can run!
One mostly runs as a way to escape death, the other mostly runs when it hears the food bag. No contest.
@@johnnymcblaze Exactly. I grew up hearing "fast like a bunny rabbit", but our house rabbit just sort of meandered about. Until Dad tossed him out back (incident involving us being gone for four days, plenty of food and water for everyone, but no one to play with, so ... new kitchen dining set needed). Bunny fit right in with the others and with a dog and two cats ruled the family. He was a *lot* faster outside, they all were; when inside they were more sedate, no knocking stuff over, but outside the speed was amazing.
@@kathryngeeslin9509 It most definitely is amazing. Especially when an animal gets to experience the outdoors for the first time. I myself had a little farm for a bit; you know, pigs, chickens, rabbits, geese, ducks, donkeys and a rehabilitated wild animal or three. I had goats briefly but they died, I'm not sure if it was my fault or not as I had never cared for baby goats before and the mortality rate is 50% even if the mother is nursing them. My house wasn't huge, so I tended to only keep the motherless baby animals with me, which I did not complain about, especially the baby geese as they were almost too cute with their little peeps. But everything else had its place outside. And this was in the Texas hillcountry mind, so there was no shortage of predators. I let nearly all of my animals free-range as I had about 10 acres, the only exception being the pigs, as loose pigs are shot on site in the country as everyone knows how destructive they are. And the exception to that rule being my pet javelina/razorback mix smoky smoke. Ol' smoky would stay in his pen till he decided he wasn't, and then he just broke the damn thing. He could shred tin sheets like tissue paper. Smokys only friend was my blind New Zealand rabbit abbey. They would lay out on the grass at night curled up together, and that is the main reason she never was eaten I believe. I heard a woman's scream one night and ran outside to see that boar fighting an owl with a 10 foot wingspan. (I assume) Because the owl swooped down and grabbed the rabbit, (when I found her she had deep puncture marks in her back) and must have tried to fly off again with her, which smoky was having none of. I miss that boar. I could walk around unarmed anywhere in those wooded ravines and I felt safe.
Rabbits can be incredibly fast as the following video proves… ua-cam.com/video/7zK04XpIUQY/v-deo.html
In my youth, many jackrabbits on our 80 acre farm. They had sensational speed.

Sure enough there he was a couple yards over chilling in the grass with three other wild bunnies in a semicircle around him. He's small and brown though, so he looks more like a posh wild rabbit. Good story, bro.
That is EXACTLY how rabbits play in the wild so the domestic was just acting instinctively with the wild rabbit.

Yes wild rabbits and domestic rabbits are different species and cannot mate with each other.
@@keithhunt5328 Depends where in the world you live, in the UK and the rest of Europe they can interbreed.
I mean yeah, domestication does that to any species. But you'd be surprised how quickly these wild cottontails can adapt. I sometimes hunt them, and the closer to civilization you are, the less afraid and more comfortable they are with you around. Hunt these in the true wild, far from humans, and you won't even see them, theyre gone in a flash, they take no risks, cautious of everything.
There are differences in the brain structure of wild and domestic rabbits. The Amygdala in domestic rabbits is small meaning they are less fearful and bolder that wild rabbits.

I remember a few years ago, I rescued a cottontail rabbit from a nest that was attacked by a dog. I kept the rabbit for 8 months since I had no one to take me to a professional and I was worried about letting her out in the backyard since we have a lot of dogs where we live, and not enough forestry.
My domestic rabbit and wild rabbit were really good friends, they would bunny Loaf next to each and sleep. I also managed to litter train both of them very quickly and easily. My dad and I finally found a shelter not too far from our house, and she was able to take the rabbit in until it got warmer, then released her into the wild. Ever since, I've been volunteering at the shelter every Saturday, and I was able to adopt another bunny from there too. I named the cottontail rabbit "Floofles." 😁

Had one of these Dutch Miniatures when I was a kid. He had the run of the house in the summer and the run of our acre and a half of field in back of the house in the summer. He loved to dig up wild plants in the field and marsh and eat the roots. Really surprised no fox or other animal got him. I’d leave him out all day by himself and call him home at dinner time. He never strayed and always came running up from the field when I called. He was definitely the happiest rabbit around and played with our cats and dog. Lived 12 years, my mother finally had him put down at the vet because he had a tumor on his face (I was in the military by then). The vet didn’t believe how old he was. Said they don’t normally live that long. This brought back a lot of memories. They all look the same with the same black and white color scheme.

PigPoke is no longer a scared bunny; he knows his Tiger-Rabbit Bunn-Foo, and protects his parents from the fiendish intruder. But he still won't be petted by mom and dad until he's ready! Teenage mutant ninja turtle-bun? 🐇
I remember the scared and traumatized Pigpoke hiding under chairs. What a turnaround!
This is cringy she literally put her pet in danger. That wild rabbit isnt vaxxed and could give them diseases. Not to mention rabbits fight each other all the time.
@@droolingpine9658 if you've watched PigPoke's channel any length of time, you would know they don't ever put him or Pipkin (before he passed), in any kind of danger. His parents aren't noobs, and love him like their child. Be cool, a have a little faith.
@@marshallbrown1939 faith in what the wild rabbit?? Faith that they’ll what? Grab him before they start fighting or before he catches something? I dont need to watch their channel “at length” to somehow see if they care. This video shows them literally putting him in danger. Idk what to tell you.
Pet rabbit just realized he eats way too damn much. Then he realized who the hell wants to run fast anyway! LOL
Black and white rabbit: Why are you running? Why are you running?
That was one big "wheeeeeeeeeeee!"
Good pigpoke
Wild one may be fast but the pet one is willing to take a fight.💪
Pigpoke: Friend? Friend!
Wild rabbit: Back! Back you demon back! Stay away from me!
