- Because Antonia's death was the most touching scene of this opera to me.
Les Contes d'Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach
from the Bavarian State Opera 2011
Diana Damrau, John Relyea, Okka von der Damerau

Note: Please excuse the audio/video asynchrony; it already exists on my recording of the performance and I will try to fix that later!
Brava! Bravo! Well done. My favorite done darn well. Glad I am but a novice and can enjoy this without having to make tiny critiques. The effort and soul that goes into EVERY singer needs to be applauded whether they be at the Met or community playhouse-Good job all of you!
This is one of the most dramatic scenes of the entire opera and it must be taken to the limit which happens here. I wouldn´t have guessed that Damrau could be convincing as Antonia but she´s absolutely stunning
She's over acting and it looks stupid
@@crazyorganist1609 She is absolutely divine
@@crazyorganist1609 I absolutely agree. Dreadful overacting loaded with pseudo-emotion.
Great! Fantastic! Diana is incredible!!!!! :-)
I hope this opera on DVD!!!
Omg. What a beautiful, powerful baritone voice. 😍
"Tales of Hoffmann", I think, is the most interesting opera in the world. Unlike other operas, this one has billions of versions and shapes, and one can create his very own version completely and change it as he likes. My greatest dream is to create my very own version of "Tales of Hoffmann".
Wow that's awesome, i even shed a tear..
Breathtaking.
Großartig
Can you help me too ?? ;o) This prod is fabulous, the staging and acting as well as the singing !!
Amazing! Do you have the rest? Olympia and Giulietta?
It's wonderful! Is it me or sometimes the translation is strange, for example "Ah Dieu mon enfant" instead of "Adieu mon enfant"?
Could it be something to the effect of "Oh God, my child!' as opposed to "Farewell, my child!" My knowledge of French is not sophisticated at all, but just a guess....
@@marilynramberg2637 yes exactly
Beautiful voice but still not understand the scenery 😮
Damrau is surprisingly good as Antonia, though they made her look the ugliest possible
The duet/trio of "Child of Mine" has always moved me to create, or stop in fascination...so very beautiful and haunting
I'm watching this on June 20, 2019, the end of the day. Jacques Offenbach was born in Cologne, Germany two hundred years ago today. Happy Birthday dear composer of wonderful and some merry works.
Who performs Antonia's mother's voice? Diana? :)))
Her mother is mezzo-soprano!
Who did this production? its amazing!!!!
Elena McLeod Bavarian State Opera in Munich
Elena McLeod Richard Jones.
what is this at the end??? his face???
It is said that in Germany , Hoffman's writings were hugely influential on surrealism.
And it cohks be argued that the pinnacle of surrealism in German film is the Cabinet of Dr Caligari
So, its a nice full circle that this production staging is a call back to movie which is the decendant of the man whose works upob which this opera is based.
Well done
😍
Can you Put it on here as well? Please?
I believe she could have even been pregnant with her first son when this was recorded.
Can't beat the Joan Sutherland version. Sutherland had more power
Why do we have to compare them? Her job here is superb and deserves all due respect.
@@antoniobittarperdomoyboliv7501 because Sutherland suited the role
I still think that Damrau is a superb artist, her acting is convincing and her voice moves me.
Sutherland's French diction was lacking
@@duncanrichardson2167 Cotrubas 1981 at Covent Garden is the best Antonia. Sutherland voice type was for Olympia. Arnold Bourbon Amaral
This whole thing is one big bulshit. So disappointing, so sucks and so unbelievble, that such a beautiful production has no DVD, can't be watched online and can't be downloaded online, not even on torrent.
Jesus, I thought you were talking about the performance! Lmao
The 1981 production at Covent Garden is on DVD.I have it's stellar my friend. Arnold Bourbon Amaral
Eccellente come sempre, Diana 😍💝💝💖💖💖💖❤❤❤❤

its so sad that in the most powerful and beautiful moment of the antonia part, the orchestra is too fast so that the voices are totally blurred. and after that, everything happening on the scene is so artificial… reminds me of puppet theater. i don't believe anything they're singing/doing/feeling.
Oh, I disagree completely. The turmoil and drama happen in Hoffmann´s head only. And he is going crazy about what happens. So the music must explode, in my opinion, the singing just adds to it :-)
