I am refurbishing a 16 3/4 ft. Kevlar canoe that got crushed in a massive snow storm that dumped almost five feet of wet snow on top of it! Even Kevlar can’t hold up in such conditions but I have managed to repair it with epoxy, Kevlar and fibreglass! Stronger than before and only maybe it will be 5 pounds heavier than before! Been mulling how I am going to replace the wooden seats and may use a version of the seats I see on your but made out of 3/8 plywood, fibreglassed and supported underneath in a similar manner! Thanks for your ideas!
Fun fact, you can glue your transducer to the floor and your fish finder will work fine. Even aluminum. I've seen guys use Velcro too for a less permanent option.

I appreciate that you gathered a variety of options from other sites, but particularly that you spoke on the value of keeping it simple and organized enough to be able to quickly unhook everything and neatly store it away, on wheels, which makes it easier to make it in/out without much hassle. Some good ideas there. I have my garmin rigged up portable as well. I got it mounted in a Stanley lunchbox with a little 7 amp battery. Everything fits pretty snug in it. I also keep plumber putty in there to stick to the bottom of the canoe then squish the transducer into the putty. If there is no air between the transducer and the floor and the water it can see right through the bottom of the vessel. 🍻
I was thinking placing a top on a canue like an aircraft canipy; Have the top locked down onto the ottom but have a canipy where the seat is (custom placed in to lower boater) and have the canipy to slide back and forth or flip up (than lock down when in it) a smaller engine on the back (smalller than what you would find on a regular fishing boat). and maybe put in a stearing wheal, spot light and so on.
like the spring clamps for paddles. Easy to remove to roof the canoe for transport. Get a like from me. I have a video on the trolling motor testing bass pros bracket with min kota c30. Works great for 3 people. Did not think it would move the canoe at aa fair speed but it does.
I have the same canoe I am currently working on. I cant imagine needing outriggers. I'm 6'2" and 275 lbs. I stand up in mine to fish with no issues. I've put a board across the rails to stand on to sight fish.
I agree. It is very stable. 2 main reasons I've decided to do that was because my wife enjoys going out fishing and she feels more comfortable and also from time to time I may go out into the lagoon and experience some rough water with wind or passing boats. Realistically we rarely use them. Glad to hear you have the same canoe. Would love to hear what you've done to it. Always looking for great ideas
As you know that "cooler" in the middle is pretty much useless. I used a razor knife and cut the inside walls about an inch down and removed it. Inside there I house my depth finder battery. I cut a small chunk out of the very bottom and shoot my transducer through the hull. I'll try to make a video to show what I'm talking about but I'm pretty tech dumb

Out riggers sound good please make them clamp on so there easily removable for travel purposes plus I don’t like drilling holes in my boat if I don’t have to

Thanks for the kind words. The top brace is 30 inches and the bottom is 20 inches. They are both 3 1/3 inches wide and 3/4 inch thick. They are made from maple so they are stronger than pine. Your length will be determined on where in the boat you want it to go. Oh, I did cut mine down recently to that size I just gave you. I moved the trolling motor to the front of the canoe. I have more control in the wind this way. Add 2 inches to each length if you want it in the back. Hope that helps.
Can you do a more detailed video on the build and set up of your motor mount your canoe looks exactly like mine but mine is a old town thanks want to add a trolling motor with out drilling into the boat

I don't know if you'll see this, but I have a question. Does the canoe sail straight with a motor that is offset like that? If not, how do you counter it? Kindest regards, Simon
Hey Simon. When I had the motor originally mounted on the back of the canoe, it sailed very straight. However, it was more difficult controlling it while fishing if it were windy. So I moved the mount to the front of the canoe and it's much easier to keep the canoe controlled even with winds. However, it does slightly sail crooked when I'm cruising at top speed. Nothing to be concerned about.
I use a small 12 volt power sport battery. Yes, I have connected it directly to the larger battery but I want to save as much power for the trolling motor as possible.
If you are looking for a new one, I'd say the stores will all be about the same. If you are looking for a used one, the price will be based on the condition. Something to pay attention to is the aluminum brackets that connect the seats to the side of the canoe. They have a tendency to break. Also look at the bottom and see how many scrapes there are and how deep. If it looks really clean and new, I'd say $400 but if it needs work, then you have room to negotiate. Good luck. @@homemadechow3532 Thanks for the reply and info. I am going to be looking at one this week that looks from the pictures to be in pretty good shape(few scratches on the black rail around the top for $400, I'll be sure to look at the brackets and bottom closer when I see it in person
I bought 4 inch bolts and then cut them with a hack saw to be sure that they fit for each seat. I also used the locking vinyl nuts to hold them in place. You could probably get away with 3 inch or even 2 1/2 inch bolts.
I made the down rod out of a copper pipe. Fairly simple. 1/2 inch copper tubing with a 1/2 inch 90 degree elbow at the bottom. Then I used stainless screws to connect the top of the tube to the spring clamp.
I just used a regular 12 volt car battery. I have a video on how I made a portable set up and it shows the battery. I can use the trolling motor for about 8 hours straight no problem. Then just recharge when I get back.
@@wgoeden I used the wire that came with the Trolling motor. I did however add an extention to the cable that came along with the trolling motor. I bought cable from an auto parts store and used 12 guage wire.
