  • We felt as though we were walking through the depths of Moria from the Lord of the Rings as we traversed the raised paths and catwalks in the Skocjan Caves.
In the 15th episode of our European Cruise we visit Koper, Slovenia and travel to one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of Europe. The Skocjan Caves are a truly once in a lifetime experience. Raised catwalks and bridges span the underground canyon over the Reka River. As we walk along we can barely believe that this place is real. Underground calcium formations, raging rivers with spiraling pools and waterfalls, and misty tree lined canyons make this one of the most beautiful and special places on Earth. If you are visiting Slovenia or Koper, these caves are a must-see addition to your itinerary. There is a reason these caves are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986.
After that we return to the Norwegian Dawn Cruise Ship to continue our journey through the Adriatic Sea to Trieste, Italy.

Yes, it is pretty dark, and very damp. Also, they frown on photos and video because they need to keep the tour moving, and don't want people stopping every few feet to get the perfect pics. If you are going to try to take photos or video please do not use lights or flash as a courtesy to others on the tour. We suggest you concentrate on the absolute beauty and majesty of an incredible and unique place on Earth. We hope you enjoy your trip.
