Splendid work as always! THANK YOU!
Thanks as always, I really appreciate your work/ posts. I suppose I could ask about any of your work but I'll stick to this example. Did you work straight through after the initial drawing or wash has dried? did you let successive sessions dry before moving to completion? What might determine when to stop and let dry or not? Okay last question 🤥, do you pretty much stick with basically the same palette for most of your work and how important is your palette choice whichever it might be? I know that's a mouthful but thank you anyway.
In this case, the first session was full coverage of paint, plus picking out some light shapes. Then probably a couple days letting it dry, then glazes and reworking, then some days off, then another session of refinement. As this is a smaller piece and a study for a large painting, that might be the end.
I might use a limited palette on the first day, but add other pigments as needed in subsequent sessions.
Of course this is only one procedure. The smaller and simpler the piece, the more likely I am to just go for the right opaque color on the first attack. I hope that helps, thanks for writing!
That's great, thanks for taking the time to reply.
