I personally really liked the game! Very tight but straightforward game, with obviously incredible production (especially in the deluxe). The variable powers create some nice variety.
I don't quite get the comments about the flow of the game here. I feel that it's actually pretty stream lined. But, eh, to each their own. If I were to rate it I'd give it an 8. For the solo mode it would be an 8.5 or even 9! :)
I love this game. I bought it at target and enjoyed it so much that I searched and found a golden edition with all the upgrades and bought it again. My wife and I love playing it together as two players and having to utilize the “third player” system is super simplified and only takes seconds since you just flip a card and place their worker. One other thing I would mention about this game that I truly love is that it is one of the only games and maybe the best example of a “Fall game”, meaning it’s a great theme for the fall season, down to the colors and everything. We have Christmas games and Halloween games but it’s super rare that you would find a game that truly has that fall vibe going. Go get you a pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks, light a Sweater Weather candle from Bath & Body and play some Harvest.
Wow …. Shocked at the low ratings….. the old game was an 8 so was expecting this to be higher. The old version had so much crunch and intrigue for a short game. Oh well I guess we all have our tastes….
ive watched other review, he said some things about the game that i thought i would not like either 1. is the game length is too short for a farming game 2. is the farm board bcuz you gonna replace your crops/farm space with buildings
Great review Tom and Mike! I really like the game. I have the Retail Kickstarter, which is perfect for me. Dual layered boards with extra characters, but cardboard components. They slot in nice to the fields. I also love the Golden Storybook look to all of the art. It's even fun to play solo.
I thought the same thing looks like a simple worker placement but it more or a medium weight worker placement. The art gave me kid game look so I bought it to play with my nieces but I thinks it’s a little to heavy for them. But enjoyed the game. Gave me light Uwe vibes
When there is room to keep standard along with deluxe resources, I will keep both so players have their choice of which to use (some, like Zee, prefer they match the graphic design) and to have extra in case they run out.
The graphic design is gorgeous and the deluxe edition is truly top notch. I appreciate you analyzing that disconnect between the appeal of the game and the actual feel of playing it. I found the 4 rounds too limiting and it left me feeling frustrated at the finish. We house-ruled a 5th round and that was more satisfying for us but I feel a bit sheepish thinking about Zee's skit about the hubris of the homebrew player who thinks they know better than the designer. I feel validated by your review comments.
If you are looking for a more entry level farming game, although this is more engine/deck building then I wholly recommend GROWING SEASONS! A super fun two player game
I like the game. Prob give it a 7.5 myself. The production is fantastic. That being said, not gonna support another kickstarter from Keymaster. Faster and cheaper to just get it at retail.
Tom noted that everything “makes perfect sense thematically” in this game, and I couldn’t disagree more. Using a single worker, you can simultaneously plant and fertilize crops, harvest the yield, AND sell them as produce. It makes no sense to shortcut how farming feels in board games. The big appeal of these farming board games is the waiting of your plans coming to fruition. It’s fun to wait for the next round in an Uwe game where your plants make food, or your livestock reproduces. Harvest sacrifices all of that feeling for the sake of brevity, which I would normally applaud, but here it feels like the game completely missed the mark about what makes this genre compelling.
I give it a 5. It's not exciting to play; very basic with the most overplayed theme in all of gaming. Also, the player powers vary wildly in usefulness. I dominated hard with one character in particular. Very "meh".

Oh. No. Its a bit average.
@@GlennDeBlock like I said, to each their own :) I really like the game, but I can understand if its not for everyone.
I would give it an 8.5. Fun game. Meaty decisions. Excellent production.

I appreciate the endorsement! :)
That holy picture of Reiner Knizia behind Mike Killed me! LOL.
Woah, didn't expect these scores...
It was the funnest game I played at GenCon and have played it a few times since.
Great idea of doing the review together with Mike virtually!
its nice to see mike. miss him on the top 10s.

I enjoyed it. I'd give it a 7. Played at 1 and 2 players. I don't think it is as complex to teach as they shared. For solo, challenges made it better.
Would love your examples Mike for WP games with as much depth that play in the same or less time
Me too
I'm happy I picked this up used before this review came out. I bought it to be a "My first Euro" kind of game, and it's perfect for that.
Yea, even though the skill ceiling is high, I think it actually is quite easy to learn and is very intuitive.

Curious what WP games Mike likes more than this? I haven't played, actually still looking for the old TMG version :)

I applaud your restraint at calling it “fertilizer” rather than “poop.”

Mike really committing himself to Kniziasm.
I think he may be a level 7 Laser Lotus now.
Is it just me or is that fertilizer symbol distracting? Looks like a poop emoji. Haha.
I almost picked this one up at gen con. Im a sucker for the theme. I have a couple worker placement games i like so ended up deciding against it.

Happy I kept my 1st version
I think the art is tooo childish.
No, childish is Sesame Street, bob the builder, paw patrol etc
This a nice, cozy art in an animal town. Adults are allowed to have fun too
