Most younger drummers attempting this extremely difficult electronic stuff or DnB go for the machine like precision approach. Jojo is on a different level for me. Just the way he brings sound out of the hihat is hypnotic. He's studied the instrument and every master that's played ❤
He approaches his parts like an arranger/producer more so than a drummer. His technique is simply a tool to serve the song. Too many drummers do it the other way around. "listen to my 'drummy' part".
@@doublestrokeroll and now we have guys like Greyson Nekrutman and Estepario Siberiano just fully going for the speed machine gun stuff. It's impressive but for me it does not reflect artistry. But then again, show business and art are two different things. I find that non drummers will send me videos of these kind of players and expect me to be wowed by it. But speed will only take you so far. They're young and I understand. But man, musical drumming is where its at for me, and groove. Jojo Mayer is at the peak of this kind of artistic drumming. He's stuck to his authentic self and not gone down the bells and whistles route.
@@adamsylvanJazz drummers like Buddy Rich and Tony Williams and extreme metal drummers didn't wait for Nekrutman and Siberiano to play as fast as possible.
Amazing. Absolutely love this track as part of the A38 show on UA-cam. Whole band are just wonderful, but Jacob's melodies really standout. Just so, so beautiful.
First time I hear about Jojo Mayer was in the 04/05 .. one in a lifetime I saw him in Italy at musical shop called Merula Bra (cuneo) still the greatest drummer 🖤🖤
First time I saw Nerve play in philly, I was a big fan of Jojo, but didn't know Nerves catalogue too well. The entire show was incredible, but when they performed this track, it was a moment ill never forget and it instantly became mine and my brothers favorite track. If you get a chance, see Nerve perform live and HOPE they perform this.
I listen to Nerve on other platforms on a regular basis. These Bunker Studio recordings are very special and captures the band so well, I prefer for example the “Music for sharks” songs way more from these sessions. Thanks to the band and engineers involved for these amazing captures of a snapshot of Nerve.
very inovative and I'm a fan of Jojo Mayer ; while listening to your music I suddenly wanted to listen to the weather report album "I sing the Body Electric".
This could be so much better without the pronounced high frequency rolloff (it's practically a full cutoff) so you only hear maybe 10% of Jojo's cymbal work.
Sorry I love Jojo... But..No human sound, drums out of realistic sound, even snares and cross stick undermixed... Just one headphone listenning... And composition bof. sorry.

Back in the day there was a comment from his videos on UA-cam.. "Jojo is from another planet " 🖤✌🏻

At 2:00 minutes. That light cymbal crash the build with no bass drum hit…
Brilliant, that’s the money
I like that retro futuristic, space vibes.

I adore this composition. One of my favourites ❤️ The version on the album is good, but Live is much more emotional. Thanks Nerve for the great music🙏

Fantastic playing as always, love the warble of the chords too.
I like the light touch on the drum microphones.

If you listen really closely you’ll hear acoustic drums. Whoever mixed this needs to be fired. 🤦♂️
Im prrtty sure they are acoustic drums?
Jojos whole thing is reproducing electronic drums, acoustically.
All done by ESP...future musik will be superhooman 8~)
