I feel like there should be either a casino, cinema complex or a Mall near the sport stadiums. Or something like south bank in Melbourne. Another alternative are hotels. Also a huge jetty would be cool. Personally I love the square fort and hope you keep it.

i think a ferris wheel by the coast line would fit well in the downtown area, since they're usually super big! also adding some small sparks or plazas in the high rise area would be nice imo

I would love to see a "government district" near the downtown area. You could put in the unique buildings like the courthouse, tax office, and/or city hall buildings. Maybe in the space to the "north" (if the beach is south) between the newer dense area and the big park. It's nicely central to everything. I like to think thats where the important buildings were placed because it was in this valley between two hills a d a natural pass from river to ocean. It's close to the older train central station and the clock tower.

Maybe you could fill the open space in between the stadiums and the city with hotels and some food places? I think it would make sense, kind of as a place where all the tourist coming from out of town to see the games could stay overnight, get a bite to eat after a long game, etc

The cargo rail is definitely newer than those two old buildings near the station so it makes sense that they would have knocked down some other buildings in that block to put it in and then left the blank brick walls behind

It’s good to have you back, James! The city is looking good.
You asked about where the mansions should go and which tile to buy, right? Well, I agree that the mansions should go to a different hill. The one out on the suburbs looks quite good for them.
As for the tile, I kind of think that depends on what kind of thing you want to do next in the city. You’ve been focusing on really getting the downtown going and if you want to continue that, I think delaying the cargo harbor is the best choice. On the other hand, if you are feeling you need a change of pace, you could get the cargo harbor and, instead of getting the pop up with the dense downtown, you’d have to look at expanding/infilling the suburbs, or starting new satellite towns out in the countryside. Both those sound interesting to watch, but I think focusing on the downtown would get the population up and open up a new tile significantly faster.
(Also, I love that you’ve decided not to unlock all the tiles.)

    • @Victoria_KB
      @Victoria_KB 2 роки тому +5

That's a great suggestion. I do see his hesitation to do with buying that particular tile as it's mostly water, but I think it would be fun to try and expand the population by really filling it suburban areas.

The downtown is looking amazing! I really love that super tall building.
I do think the mansions look a touch out of place where they currently are - the hills above the suburbs might be a better place for them like you said, especially next to that cool castle.
In place of the mansions, maybe some lower rise apartment-like buildings would work better? The areas either side of that hill are more busy and fairly densely packed, so having such low buildings makes it look a little too sparse in the middle.

When you were merging the residential into the public library, all I could think about was the old “secret” New York Public library apartments! (Had to do with old coal heating systems, the person maintaining/running the heat to prevent frozen pipes lived in the apartment above the library and then the city sort of just forgot about the apartments after that job was defunct…). I like the old box fort, And maybe the mansions make more sense along a waterfront near the fort? Like the ones in Newport, Rhode Island? For the stadium area, Could you maybe have a thin strip of commercial/office on parts of the road but with enough room for a thin park between the stadium and the buildings? Essentially more of a path from the downtown and stadium areas to the beach with picnic areas then a true park.

Love this series. Mantions feel bit off place. Should have their own privacy area, also the one tall building for peeping toms to look at the mansions could be moved to downtown skyline. I feel like next to the stadiums you need some buildings to make the new area look more cohesive with High Heights (lol that name). This is my absolute favourite series to just have on while I'm up to something else, doodling or writing or something.
Couple of suggestions, the first being - you could just leave the hilly part of the city as just hills, and make it into a park? In Edinburgh we have holyrood park, which is an old volcanic plug, and it has the houses of parliament and stuff around it. It's kind of wedged between the city centre and a bunch of suburbs, so similar to how it is here.
Second, I don't think the tram/bus stops are too frequent at all. IDK how the AI likes it, but in real world terms, it's important for people with mobility issues to have lots of stops not too far apart, so it's cool when people include things like that.
Thirdly, less of a suggestion, more of a vote - I vote getting the tile with the most building potential, yeah.

That intersection early on is an elegant solution to this issue. I've got a few intersections where I want the forward lanes to have a permanent green light, so this could work. I always have to remind myself when watching these videos that James is using left-hand drive.
I definitely agree with other people that using a mod to turn off noise pollution is super helpful. Yeah, living in a big city/high-density area is loud, but a lot of these buildings produce more noise than is realistic. I'd also recommend getting the realistic population mod. It makes single-family houses only fit one household, but the big apartment/office buildings hold a couple hundred people which is easier and more realistic.

Oh that "diverging diamond" intersection is just a Seagull intersection type thing, they're really common in Australia and they kind of push for them in our road design guidelines. As for right of way, it's the person in the middle of the road (so the joining road) over the person sitting outside the two roads. Because the person in the middle of their turn not being able to finish their turn would back up the turn into flowing traffic.

The AI can actually give way perfectly. The cars breaking the rules is a setting in Traffic Manager. There's a slider that lets you choose the accuracy of the cars and how much they break the rules. You need to set it higher if you want them to give way better.

    • @StefanInOz

I agree. The AI can make it work better but I'm pretty sure it's not the slider named "Dynamic lane selection" underneath "Advanced Vehicle AI" but rather the "Reckless driver percentage" in the "Gameplay" tab of Traffic manager. Maybe it's a mix of both? Anyway, setting the "Reckless driver percentage" to "Holy City" and the "Dynamic lane selection" slider to 50% should actually fix quite a few of your traffic problems! Of course the "Advanced Vehicle AI" needs to be enabled

I feel like the old fort could be park of a really nice park! and then i agree with another commenter that said the mansions might look better on the hill near it.

Might be nice to have a downtown campus for the university in that space by the stadiums! I feel like a lot of american universities at least have a main campus in the suburbs and then research/admin stuff in downtown areas.

🏟 behind the soccer stadium, I think that could be a park with a community pool, yoga plaza, and those special park amenities. And have it open up to the main beach entrance at the “south”

I still say the Highways could use some tolls to make you some money! I'd also do mansions on the hill so they stand out :)

Would look cool with a construction site. Like if a new skyscraper was being built.

You could always do a park around the stadium, in Manchester we have “sport city” which is the official name of the etihad campus and it has 4 different stadiums inside it. You should call the “stadiums” zone something like that.

I love that you are playing cities skylines again I was a big fan of Sedona! gutted when it finished, As for the noise pollution near the train stations id ignore it as when the sims went to view the property surely they would have taken the train station into account.

You could also try office buildings instead of trees. They would block noise better but might not look as good and I'm not sure if they will be tall enough as the space is quite small.

You know what, I think that high rise next to those mansions on the mountain actually is fine - very Victoria Peak in HK vibes tbh.

definitely buy the tile next to the tallest downtown tile. the skyline is good but i think you could extend it more that direction and it will add population

You can place another tram depo in the suburbs if you want to do some lines in there. Just to not make the train line redundant.

Instead of mansions on the hill, make it an entertainment centre with cinema or theatre with a nice view of the city. Alternatively, a park / green area would also look nice on the hill ☺️

This new city is great, keep up the good work! I've got to say though, I don't think that massive black building is working in this city. Too big and it looks out of place. Imo the tall white building you put along the beachfront and the square one behind it are a good height for the tallest building but the white one should be more central. Also, as some others have said, that old fort would make a great park area!

I think the mansions area is better with nothing on it but the small road because I think it would be very realistic for a city to build around the hill kind of like they do in rio

As important as Cargo is, you need more land first!
Also, I feel like you trolled us by leaving that telephone pole in the road towards the beginning of the video! 😂
