    Over the last 15 years, a miniature revolution in space science has been underway: CubeSats! First flown as educational tools the size of soup cans, significant capabilities have now been developed to allow these nanospacecraft to travel to the moon, asteroids and even Mars. We’ll talk about how NASA, companies and students are building and flying small spacecraft, and what types of missions they are achieving. Tiny telescopes, plume fliers, and asteroid rovers--the solar system is open for novel exploration!
    Speaker:
    Dr. Andrew Klesh, Chief Engineer for Interplanetary Small Spacecraft, JPL

    He deserves a medal for the way he handled that Q&A!

      I agree. He was brilliant, the most eloquent science communicator/engineer I’ve seen “live” in a while 😭🙏🏽🙌🏽

    I learned so much from Dr. Klesh in this talk. I'm not an engineer but I wish I could be involved in this field. This video should have more views than 90%+ of youtube

    amazing! thank you for sharing. So if I make one of this boxes in my school can I send it to the space for free?

    argh.... does anyone else skip the intros or is it just me. probably just me. i hate it when they introduce people by showing off how much better they are. excuse me I'm just a pathetic loser. schizo at a young age. had to drop out of high school. kept trying to go to school, work, stay clean, etc till i started pushing my thirties; started shooting up drugs when i realized my dreams will never come true; two college degrees and nothing to show for; countless criminal charges; made my dad so depressed he killed himself; watching my mom drift away into madness; now i'm clean but for what? this is my hobby now. just learning. all i do is learn. im never going to achieve nothing. but at least im clean. at least i still have my curiosity. at least i still find all this fascinating. i love science and math. hell i would watch these videos even when i was shooting up crack and heroin and pills and whatever the f* else thinking i will never achieve this. im not mad at these people, nor am i jealous. im happy for them. no really i am. i just wish i was born normal. i wish i never was crazy. but like i said im clean now. no more drugs. drowning in student loans but still curious and still learning on my own. hoping that one day i can start my own business and go back to school. even though i know i can never be hired but i at least want that degree.
    please never take your intelligence for granted. never take your life for granted. never take your sanity for granted. no matter what keep trying. keep pushing forward. most of you can still achieve your goals.
    i just wish there was someone there to tell me it was never too late. that no matter how long it takes, just keep going to school. no matter how old you are because of whatever reason (in my case, schizophrenia) just keep pushing forward. i thought i was getting too old. i thought it was too late. now i know. now i want everyone to know. it is never too late. even if it takes years and years to graduate for whatever reason, never give up. never! even if whatever problems in your life causes you to graduate from school at 40 or 60 or 100 years old, do not ever let those reasons cause you to give up and throw any iota of a chance to fulfill your dreams

      If it's any consolation I completed my BEng honours degree in engineering when I was 42. I'm now completing a MSc in Space Science and Technology at 44. You sound like a top guy. keep learning and try to do some work in that area even if it's voluntary at first just to gain experience then youl make it.

    9:22 . The volume of a cube with a 10 cm edge is 1000 cubic centimeters, not 10 cubic centimeters as shown on slide.

    Would it not be cheaper to launch the satellites via magnetic rail? If the satellite has enough propellant to orient itself in orbit you could launch them all day every day. Right?

    • @rebornranch1386
      @rebornranch1386 3 роки тому

      The technology is not there yet, not to mention the immense G forces incurred by a process like that, atmospheric heating, and the fact that magnetic rails are literally tearing themselves apart with every launch. For now our best options are rockets. Soon we may have starship to launch these things, the amount of cubesats that thing could launch for a cheap price is insane.

    I love to think that they can apparently take close up pictures of alien planets but a clear view of the planet in its entirety in a nice video would be apparently impossible. ugh.
