First, GREAT show. Second, Aravind - as of today - seems like just a genuinely down-to-earth leader.

19:47 I LOVE Aravind's suggestion to have the search engine SHARE THE AD REVENUE with the content creators they are surfacing (like Spotify)! Brilliant!

My feedback as a CEO and marketer: the history of Perplexity (or any startup) is interesting but not useful. The analysis of the AI landscape is also interesting but not useful. What would be more useful to me: ways businesses are using Perplexity to save time or gain a competitive advantage. I'd also love to hear what opportunities he sees coming up for how businesses can make greater use of AI driven search, through browsing or even through their own data. That being said, congrats on your first interview and getting it started! I hope the feedback is helpful!

Another question: where is the moat in the Perplexity’s business model?

Noted ✏️ We appreciate the feedback! The show will continue to evolve, so that it is the go-to for people who want to action.

Both history and the landscape are highly useful. Why? Because context can change everything. What would be next level is asking Matt "you spend time discussing history and the AI landscape. I don't see the connection there - what are you seeing that I might be missing?" The assumption that because we can't see a connection or relevance, none exists is what separates the people you run into in December at the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm and those you run into at your local free ClickFunnels meetup😂😂😂😂. There are #Levels to these games.
Innovation starts in the academic labs, then govts support it, then big business funds it, until finally get into the hands of small business owners and consumers. Just a few hypotheses - test at your leisure...

I love your channel, and I plan to be a long term listener of this podcast. Only one suggestion: sometimes, during the interviews, people tend to name books or people or even movies, which most of the time are very interesting, adding the covers or a picture of the person with their name and title really enhances the experience of waching the interview. You can see how other podcast like Lex Firedman always does it. Thank you for your work and congratulations on the podcast!

Love what you guys are doing, tapping in for a few hours a week to all things AI is exactly what I need. Great choice for first guest, I think Perplexity is great and used it alot in my recent college courses for research. My feedback is you barely scratched the surface with Aravind, would love to see longer episodes!

Incredible to see Matt get the opportunity to have a new platform with another great mind in the ai space. I loved hearing the perplexity story and it gives hope to everyone trying to create a startup. Really excited to see what future episodes will bring. Was truly happy with how this episode played out and hope to see longer episodes in the future!

18:37 I've been saying this for years now. There is no conceptual difference between a machine training on public data and a human consuming that data in order to learn. People get their panties in a twist over semantics, but the heart of the issue is pretty simple.

Good episode and good start. Congratulations! Aravind's is great and inspiring story. But in the end what did the episode achieve in alignment with your purpose? Last few minutes of bringing it all together with message from the guest and the hosts could have been better.

Claude Haiku is way way more in depth *and intuitive*, it’s truly brilliant. Perplexity is great for linked references - but not discerning enough: Claude goes PubMed where Perplexity goes WebMd…

I'm going to challenge him on the Spotify model working. The model works for Spotify in terms of sharing revenue. In terms of the artist whose music are placed on the platform, there is very little, if any, means of remuneration. So while I love the perplexity CEOs idea, it only is going to be as meaningful as he hopes if he Embraces a more meaningful Revenue share than Spotify currently does with its artists.

Great interview and kick-off episode! I love Perplexity and the access it provides to the best LLMs. I agree with the statement that chatbots have no added value without content creation. I'm trying to build chatbots and add content in the best way possible, guiding my chatbot to give the best answers to that content. I find different LLMs and podcasts like this very useful:)

I want to write a poem, or post a famous poem, and then type a prompt like "Focus on the sentence length and alliteration, and make it about a dog." and then the Search finds the closest matches. Even if it's some kid in a basement who made it and stuck it on the stupidest site. Then let me upload a Metalica song, an Image, a movie. I want to get all the diamonds from the pile of coal, not because they are placed perfectly on the top. "Here is my idea for a cure for cancer, please find any similar theories focusing on this Telomere control system." 1000 overlooked ideas. Take the best 5 and do a search based on those and refine the prompt.

Content creators won’t create quality content for pennies. It’s a lot of work. AI relies on the content. So it’s not a sustainable model. Attribution or paying fractions of pennies like Spotify won’t work
