Dolores Hart who played Nellie was Elvis co star in Loving You 1957. She became a nun in 1963 at the Benedictine Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Connecticut. She still talks highly of Elvis and often answers fans letters as well. Lovely lady ❤ There's a documentary with her "God is bigger than Elvis" worth watching

I sifted three other reviews of this movie and yours is the best and it's not close. Very well thought out and described.

I can't with you! I can't even say much more than 1) I like the way you're doing this review! and 2) You had me dying the entire time! When that Star Wars opening came on, I almost spit my water out of my mouth and then the Taxi Driver comparison! Oh Lord! 🤣...I can't wait for part 2 and hope I can offer some thoughts then! 😂

Back then the most interesting bit was a traditional New Orleans music score,Much different from usual Elvis music.Just think of a club scene with Fats Domino playing in his home town That would have given the film a really great New Orleans feel!!!

The woman that plays Ronnie, Carolyn Jones later became the first Morticia Addams in The Addams Family 1964 😊

I enjoyed this one. I think you made way too much out of the hotel scene. He's a 19 year old boy whose hormones are raging and he's been given little or no direction from his father who has been mentally and emotionally absent for three years. When Nelly questioned him, he did the right thing. He didn't coerce her. He didn't pressure her even though she was obviously vulnerable. He didn't take advantage of her. I think you were way too hard on Nelly as well. She's 17 or 18 years old. She verbalizes that she doesn't know him and shouldn't make a bad decision. She is simply expressing how she feels. Our feelings are not rational. Can't wait for Part 2.

I appreciate your feedback here. For me, the hotel scene was just more jarring than anything. It felt incongruent with the Danny character we'd seen thus far interacting with Ronnie in the club and the taxi - if he'd been more sleazy towards her, the hotel scene wouldn't have struck me as so out of character for him. I don't really agree that he wasn't pressuring or coercing her, but you're right about him being a misguided youth, and he does yield and seem to somewhat recognize the error of his ways.
Still, I maintain Nellie's old-fashioned momma should've told her that if a guy's taking you to a hotel you should run!! haha. Thanks Mark.

@@zakkthrowback Danny Fisher is a deeply flawed character. The movie doesn't go into that as much as the Harold Robbins novel it was based on. So it maybe a little out of step in the movie! I believe there was a subsequent scene with Danny and Nellie in the hotel room which was cut from the movie!

Can’t wait for part 2. You are picking up on the problems with most Elvis movies. Plot holes, weak script written mostly to be a vehicle for the songs. They are arguably minimal in comparison to his other films. But still noticeable.
