I lost my Dad two years ago, I see Robins now more than ever before, I always pause and think about Dad when they are around and quietly say hello. I know you have lost a loved one recently, maybe this was her just keeping an eye. Love the videos, keep up the good work.
Hi Dan, thanks. I do feel she is around sometimes and strange things have been happening at mums... Thanks and stay strong
Great video as always Shaun. They do say Robins are signings of loved one's 🙏 You have the best garden content on UA-cam, it's so easy to follow. Please keep up the great videos
Thank you for the kind words.. Means a lot an did very encouraging 😊👍
Love watching your videos Shaun. The more the better Xx
Thanks so much 😍😍
Great stuff. Loved that one. Brilliant!! Worked your socks off. 👍👍
Cheers 🥂🥂😊
Your a legend Shaun, the way you tackled this job that was far from easy. The way you work, your customers must be over the moon to have you taking care of their lawns. When I’m working on my lawn I work like you try keep everything clean as possible. What a channel this is!
Aww stop it 😂. Making my head get big. Nahh man I've see your hard woke on your own lanw in the Facebook group an you're a grafter who is driven to get things right.. I look up to you
@@LawnRight cheers Shaun your a top man, loving the content and looking forward to what you will be doing to your own lawn. All the best 👍
Very nice Shaun , Robbins are a lovely bird to make use of us moving the soil and bringing up the things that love to feed on . Nice work 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧Manchester England 🏴
Thanks 😊. All the best
Brilliant job as always…..
Thanks 😁😁
That’s a proper days work great job love your positive attitude
Thanks 👍. Have a great weekend
Good job Shaun. My loan scarifier got picked up yesterday so I've got the same job to do, front and back this weekend. Only a manual aerator for me so I'll be sore on Sunday night.👍
Have fun.. And a beer later!
🤣 i thought that was a hedgehog on the path (10.48) 🤣
Ha ha.. Do you know, I found myself looking at it at least every 20 minutes thinking the same 😂😂
I thought it was a squirrel 🐿️- a bloody stubborn one 😂
@@LawnRightI’ve got a client that has an ornamental fox in the flower bed of their garden which is huge - everytime we visit, one of us will jump out of our skin as the bloody thing just stares at you, regardless of where you are in the garden - which is huge (3000m2). 😂

Hey man, I love your work. I would love to see the final results at the end of these videos when you make a trip back weeks later. We really need to see the proof of the benefits not just the features of the service.
Hi ill def be going back and will get an update asap
wheelbarrow would help your back with those compost bags when you have to carry them a long way
Hi.. Agreed.. My van is sadly not big enough to fit everything in 🙄
Hope you put a bit of extra seed down for the robin. Now is about the optimum time for over seeding or patch seeding in the North of the UK. My neighbour put some seed down 4 weeks ago and it has not germinated. The ground was too cold. He was using a box of seed from a garden centre that was 18m old. I did a little small patch at the same time and it has germinated OK - but I got my seed online and put compost and a fleece on top of mine. Sending big hugs to you and your family.
Thanks 😊😊 yeah seeds do generally lose around 10% each year. Well done on the success
Wish you could come sort my back lawn 👍👍👍
😬😬😔
Love your videos. I’m dealing with clay and it’s either too dry and I can’t get into the soil or it’s too wet and sticky and no regular aerator tools work. However, drills work haha
Ahh I feel your pain! You'll get there 🤞🤞🤞🤞
Excellent work service, been doing a wee renovation myself scarifying top dress over seed etc after 2 and bit weeks I have both weed and grass coming through, when is grass strong enough to weed kill. Ta Derek
Hi Derek absolute minimum of 6 weeks as long as the grass is looking healthy
@@LawnRight ever so kind thanks
Another winner, Shaun! On projects like this, with a full renovation, do any of your customers fail to follow up with the watering schedule for the first six weeks?
Hi Mike yeah it has happened a few times to be fair. Not so much in recent years as I over emphasise the importance of it.. Had one years ago I renovated because their dog tore it up.... Went back and guess what.. They let the dog on it and it failed literally right away!
How short do you tend to cut the grass when doing lawn reno's and overseeding?
Hi I tend to scalp it when overseeding, but if just scarifying, a good short cut is fine
Can see in the corner of the back garden that it's mucky, probably after all recent rain. Does it make much difference regarding scarifying? Or is it better to wait until a bit drier if you can? For example, I'm in no rush, so maybe wait a little bit?
Hi definitely wai for a drier day.. I have no choice unfortunately as I've a fair number of renovations to carry out each spring so I'm often getting caught up in some poor weather 😁
Shaun, I done a renovation on my lawn last September and it luks very well now but I have a bit of creeping buttercup 🙈
What do you recommend for gettin rid of it?
Hi anything with mecoprop p and dicamba should work.. Note that it's often also an indiator of poorly draining soil also
@@LawnRight Thank you Shaun
Great job WELL DONE !
Thanks 😊
Hi Shaun, for the clay soils etc, isnt top dressing with 70/30 better? majority being sand? i also watched your video for improving clay soil but also didnt see sand used, any reason? just wondering cause im about to do my lawn again this year
Hi its definitely not bad, but I would personally prefer that it (talking about pure sand) would be dug in to the existing soil instead of just capping on the top via aeration.. if it were as you say, a 70/30 its definitely good, and improving things... I like to get the compost and "regular soil" in.. but would certainly be open to a 70/30 mix in there WITH the compost added in.. as well as a sprinkle of gypsum... the compost eventually encourages worm activity who will naturally aerate the soil
I just used seaweed and iron sulphate, hollow tined 2 yrs ago, just tested this evening with fork and easily penetrated but think I have slightly clay soil, gypsum arrived today, couple of weeks I’ll scarify and apply, I see so many going on about the 70/30 which is why I asked, but I also have plenty of worm activity, I have lush green lawns in the spring and autumn but the summer it’s pure brown in the most part, not sure if it’s the conditions of soil or perhaps not very good fescue or bent grass, do you think I I should bother with sand? This winter is first time I seen it water logged, I’m also on a hill with levelled grass so plenty of drops for water to drain but it was saturated. I’ll be overseeding, it’s the sand I’m wondering weather to bother as it’s quite pricey, compost is readily available and cheaper I think.
Boys that is really hard work. I just subscribed to your channel because I think you are doing a fabulous job and I’m looking forward to seeing how this turns out in 5 weeks time. The garden was a total mess before you started and I suspect it will be fantastic in about 4 weeks time but after that unless she cuts it , it will quickly turn back to being a mess (hopefully she will have someone like you cutting the grass for her
Thanks.. I think it's just a 1 off job but with any luck I can call back or get an update from her fingers crossed
Approximately how much would this cost? I was thinking of tackling it myself, but if it wasn't too expensive then I would get someone else to do it.
Low to mid 3 figures for a solo operation but you may get much higher figures depending on who does it
@lawnright what is the liquid treatment you are using after the end please ❤
Hi it's emerald green available on my website lawnright.co.uk/shop many thanks
@@LawnRight thanks
What make of grass cutter do you use thanks
Hi it's the stihl 240
I scarified topdressed and overseeded yesterday and covered the seeds with a light dusting of top soil.
Weathers looking like 9 in day and 4 in night basically all week.
The seeds should be okay to germinate shouldn't they?
Hi yes they should b just fine but I'd expect 2 to 3 weeks of waiting before seeing any results based on those temperatures.. Thankfully no frosts 😊😊
Enjoyed watching, how did you for all of that into your van? 😁

Hi Mark thanks for the sub ! It all Goe sin, in. A specific way I've done it the same way for years.. It's right but just fits 😁😁
@@LawnRight I thought you were driving a tardis.. equipment followed by equipment…probably the way it all folds up.

Great job, maybe leave the white writing on the screen a few seconds longer as it’s gone before it can be read.
Thanks for the feedback.. I'll try and go longer
I might be wrong, but I think the reason you have a small fraction of thumbs up versus views is because the viewers aren't logged in or don't have a YT account.
Cheers. Could be. 👍👍👍

Seriously hard days work
I do half an acre twice a year
It’s bloody hard work on bad slopes but worth it
Hi.. You've seen my belly right 😅😅. Only joking.. The machines help immensely an Di think you just get used to things.. But I'm always tired and in bed by 9 most nights
I need some advice. I sprayed Weedol on my lawns a couple of weeks ago (they are both established lawns). How long do I need to leave it before scarification & reseeding?
Hi.. I'd want to wait around 6 weeks at minimum before seeding so about 4 more
Very inspiring Shaun - you have an incredible work ethic and I admire that trait very much
Just wanted to say hello from Kentucky in the USA. I have watched many of your videos and as a result, have learned a great deal about lawn care.. it’s very difficult to find passionate caring people that does lawn care in the USA. You are one in 1 million. Take care of yourself and I look forward to watching your future videos.
Thanks 😊😊😊 all the best
Always love watching Shauns lawn renovations.
Thanks 😁👍👍
Good video. I was surprised that you didn't mow the lawn shorter before scarifying? Maybe it's just the video that makes it look long?
I can't remember how long it was but I don't mind if it's a couple of inches maximum hwne I'm doing a full renovation 😊
Love your videos. Watched it since your van podcast days. 😊
Awesome! Thank you! Very much appreciated and thanks for hanging around all this time :)
Good effort. Can't wait to see how this turns out.
Thanks 😁🤞🤞🤞
Have you ever used Mycorrhizal fungi when seeding or overseeding a lawn? I'm seeding a new one this weekend and i'm not sure if its usefully. possibly less usefully one heavy soils but mine is very sandy and light to allow for deep rooting.
I honestly haven't sorry.. It can't do any harm though
I have a question, please.
I am currently doing my lawn.
I have scarified, I have aerated.
I've now decided I want to try and level my lawn a bit. So I've just had a delivery of 8 tons of topsoil.
Will putting new top soil ontop of my aerated lawn make the aeration I did pointless?
After top dressing and leveling I am going to seed and use a good compost to cover the seed.
I appreciate any advice.
Hi honestly that's all good, just carry on. The aeration will help no matter what. All good 😊
It would be nice to put the link to the results after
Hi.. Will do when I go back or get an update off the customer.. Just. A couple of weeks sorry it's annoyinhy
Great video, learned a lot. Never tried gypsum before, I have a clay based garden, how much gypsum do you put down roughly per sqm?
Hi its best to check each product for their own application rates.. I usually go for a decent covering, and then would repeat it through the year
Very neat video! Just found your channel, loving it so far! Question, how do you ensure the customer waters the lawn enough after a big job like that?!
Hi.. Thanks.. I always have a proper face to face discussion with them stressing the importance and then hope they keep it up.
Another great job done ✅️✅️✅️
Thanks 😁
I have scarified my lawn after having killed the moss. I have some really bad brown patches and it’s a week after the renovation. What can I do to get rid of the brown patches?
Hi you need to allow 6 weeks for it to recover.. But a Fertiliser and copious watering will help tremendously too
I notice your scarifier has blades rather than the spring wires. My machine had both.
Can you explain use over one or the other and what's best for what situation?
I notice the blades like to take out good grass too
H both do the same in a roundabout sort of way.. The metal wires are far less aggressive and can be used a couple of times a year to keep things in good condition.. The blades are more aggressive for sorting major issues
Hi Shaun keep it up you are doing a great job and having fun making some brilliant videos superstar Ali Walsall west midlands england junction 10 m6 Walsall churckery

Nice job mate! What's your thoughts pro/cons on using horticultural fleece after overseeding?
Hi thanks.. Yes its pretty good. Used it last year on my own lawn and it's definitely a good step by a country mile
Was it even more difficult to get the thing back out through the gate when you finished the job? at 4:21
Hi it wasn't that bad thankfully just ripped it back so the front roller went on the top then it was straight through 👍😊
So you don’t pull the weeds out but use weed killer instead at another time?? Hmm sounds dodge
if we put weedkiller on now, we can't seed for at least 2 months.. its all about timing.. this customer came on at the last minute so we wouldn't have had time to spray the weeds and fit in their renovation into our already jam packed schedule. They could have had treatments/weedkillers and opted to renovate in the autumn but they didn't . They wanted it doing right now so this was really the only option
Hi Shaun, can I ask where you buy your gypsum from? Many thanks adam
Hi mines from my supplier sheriff amenity
Great job. How long do you have to leave it after rain to scarify?
Aspong as the grounds not boggy you're good to go.. Want it mainly dry tho
@@LawnRight thanks. It's so bloody wet in the uk at the moment.
Which areas do you work, do you do Hertfordshire?
Sorry just south Yorkshire for now
What seed species have you seeded with? great content as usual!
Hi this was hurrells cold start seed.. Many thanks
Do customers get a fright when they see day 0 of the renovation?
I do try and warn them at least a hundred times before 😂😂
Great stuff Shaun! Been a fan for a while now, I have a question, we have recently had some building works completed which completely ruined my lawn. Once the lawn was all ruined we had a new lawn/turf laid 3days ago, what’s the best approach to give this the best start in life? Thank in advance! Keep up the good work!
Hi Jon.. and thanks..... Literally try to avoid going on it a much as possible over the next month and keep it watered... All it needs is time to push the roots down.. Some general balanced Fertiliser will help (not high nitrogen, ie avoid if it says fast green up)
@@LawnRight Hi Shaun, sorry me again! The grass is reaching approx 8-10cm now, no one is walking on it and has been watered for an hour every evening, it’s been exactly 3weeks since it was laid. Shall I wait another week until I cut? I sent a couple of pics over to your Facebook messenger. Thanks again in advance for all the advice!
What make and type of grass seed are you using please
Hi hurrells cold start on this job thanks
When doing a full refurb with laying new seed, do you recommend using full compost to cover the seed after spreading it or a mixture of compost with sand etc ? I went to buy compost for that purpose and when i explained what i needed it for the guy at the garden center was very adamant i should get a mixture of soil & sand as apparently "its made for that very purpose", which one is best in your opinion ? Thanks as always!
Either is fine honestly and sandy soil ha sbene used for years and years.. I much prefer the compost myself. The guy in the center should try it one day.. It breaks down and adds in a lot of organic goodness
@@LawnRight thanks! I guess can’t go wrong either way then..
Can you still scarify if the ground isn't completely dry? And what is the usual price you would pay including materials for such a project out of curiosity 🤔
Hi yes as long as its not too boggy see this video ua-cam.com/video/vpaAvzi7mRI/v-deo.htmlsi=LF0goHyzv-PZy4mb. As for cost I'm afraid we od t share our own prices.. It's taken literally years to get it just right.. But as a rule. It's a full day's work whatever that means to anybody doing it, plus materials at maybe £150 to £200
Thank you for your response mate. I was just wondering as a friend asked me if I could do there's with my scarifier so was wondering what price to say. ;)
nice work. very thorough as always!
Much appreciated! Here to help
Look forward to seeing the results of this one 😀
☺️☺️
Will the amg need dug up etc before all of this or happy with the cut scarify and the rest of process as mine has alot of amg was thinking killing the lawn cut pull up and new soil and seed?
It's a personal choice based on how far you want to go.. Some people live with with it, others are completely obsessed with perfection. If you dig it out before everything, the lawn going to look a lot better but bear in mind it can return the next spring
@@LawnRight thanks mate much appreciated
How would you get rid of grass weed?
You'd need to dig it out
What a waste of a massive lawn area, grow something
Really Good job - tricky access and tricky weather.
That f4 can be a right nightmare in the rain too.
Thanks 😁. Yeah the rainy weather isn't the easiest but hey ho
Dont know how you do it shaun . Just done complete renovation of front and back lawns and im totally knackered !!!!!!😅😅😅
Wait till u wake up tomorrow stiff and sore 😂😂
Hi Shaun, what gypsum would you recommend for clay soils?
Love your advice
cheers
Hi any horticultural gypsum is fine. Powdered or granular
Just done my back lawn today. I guess it's about two thrids the back lawn in that place. Had the obligatory robin turn up just as I was seeding.
Every single time! Crazy lol
Hi, I was just wondering roughly how many litres of top soil you’d use per metre squared when covering the seed
Hi all depends on how thick you go.. I'm using compost on this and using the compost spreader it averages maybe 7 sq metres
Love the videos!! I've wanted to overseed my garden but the cost of topsoil would be too much, would it be possible to do it without topsoil?
Hi yes absolutely but you may lose some to birds, heavy rain and wind... Make sure to firm them in.. Good luck
Well Shaun the aerator plan almost didn’t work well salvaged mate
Again great job mate that looked a big task
Thanks mate.. And I would have lost 25% of the income on the job so I'm pleased I got it through
A lot of work involved with those lawns, not an easy job. Look forward to seeing the results in a month or two.
Thanks me too 😊
What do you use for top dressing?
Hi I mostly always use compost lawnright.co.uk/compost for details.. It's more to cover the seeds
@@LawnRight any equivalent that you know of in the US?
@@nicholasmasse I'm so sorry I don't have the answer to that but a general multipurpose compost should be fine as long as its dry and quite fine
@@LawnRight Thank you
Hi Shaun what's the emerald green?
Hi it helps seeds germinate better an helps Lawns stya greener longer in summer. Further details can be found at lawnright.co.uk/emerald-green
Do you not ever show the "before, and after"??
I do when I can, but sadly it's usually several weeks before im back at these properties so I tend to do an update..
Great video Shaun. Was wondering what type of seed do you use and do you always use the same type and brand.
I do a lot of lawn care myself, I tend to use different mixes depending on location and other factors. keep doing the videos mate they are always inspirational 👍
Hi I used hurrells cold start on this job, but do change like yourself according to the needs.. Many thanks
Thanks, keep up the good work mate👍
Are we going to see the update on this lawn?
That is so satysfying to watch! I am about to dig out half of my lawn tomorrow because I have POA. Then seed the area and spread some top soil, which I still have to buy. Last time, I used peat free compost, but I feel like it gave me weeds.
Hi if its sterilised it should b just fine but adding in organic matter will encourage everything present to flourish.. This job was a 1 off job. She did say she would update me so I'm hoping so 🤞🤞🤞.. I hope she has at least 1 lawn treatment for the weeds so I can then get in and do an update
@@LawnRight fingers crossed for the update 😊
Hi Shaun hope your well,
I've renovated my front lawn just over 3 weeks ago, seeds have germinated and I'd say 80% covered.... I'm itching to give it its first cut but some sprouts are still fresh and more coming through, with the more established being 4/ 5cm tall, would you cut or hold on in there for a couple more weeks?
Hi... That's a great result. I'd wait as long as possible but definitely cut when it's ready so in reality youll need to cut in a week but just don't let it get too long
@LawnRight thanks Shaun for the quick response 👍🏻
Always watching your vids for tips and have done for a long time. Admire your graft and work aswell as knowledge
👍🏻
If you needed to level the lawn, would you roll it between cutting and aerating please?
Hi I wouldn't bother myself as you end up rolling the dips as well as high spots. Usually I'd cut it short...aerate, Fill the dips.. Then any overseeding as needed
@@LawnRight Thank you. I just got my first lawn and I'm starting off clueless. Working my way through your videos! I don't think the recently laid turf was compacted and there's lots of mounds. My goal this year is to get it perfectly level
Good job Shaun, I’ll be doing mine very shortly!
Thanks 😁. Have fun 😊😊

Hi.. Def some pros to that.. It's the cons I can't be doing with 😂.. Might do one day tho
I was knackered just watching you unload the van.
Me too lol and it was only 8am😂😂
Hi. Any reason for aerating before scarifying? Could it be done the other way around?
Thanks.
Hi it just saves having to clear up the debris twice.. I used to do it the other way for years but this way works good
another good FULL 😂 renovation you deserve a well earned 🍺
