Nice T-shirt! That band rocks!!!
I went to rehab for alcohol 11 times. Almost died twice. Finally gave up on AA, started smoking weed, and I've been alcohol free for 8 years.
That’s awesome. Similar experience here…stopped drinking in 2012 ✌🏼❤️

I think that’s pretty much what a “bad trip” does for you when it comes to shrooms too….but, it’s also what causes some people to lose their minds….however, some people benefit from the ego-death by fire method, me included my friend… PS weed is my goto, shrooms I JUST did for the first time last year. First trip was “happy”, the second one, the BAD trip haha, but both I do feel were necessary at the time.
Flower pre and post workouts for me. Been doing it for over a year and has produced incredible results. Everyone is different though. I felt less joint pain, mind to muscle connection is top notch, and motivation follows ESPECIALLY with some banger tunes, and not to mention good meal to follow and amazing recovery. Most couldn't hand weed/workout mix understandably, so being a certified pothead helps.
💯
Don't you find your muscles just don't work properly, I can do resistance training in the gym easy, what I can't do is kickboxing, my speed and control just goes out the window but I do have considerably more stamina on the green.
Totally agree with this, especially the mind muscle connection! I find myself able to focus on my reps more and squeeze out a few more compared to bring sober. My best workouts are when I’m high.
I just left a similar comment under a different thread. Weed gives me anxiety on occasion, and that anxiety can be channeled into pushing my workout/run harder. Sometimes I feel better doing yard work when stoned.

I was a 20-year heavy smoker. 5 months off weed now, and I don't care to go back. I can finally remember my dreams.
Because you can actually dream. Marihuana and most depressant drugs work as a REM blocker. When you consume them you are not really sleeping, you are just sedated.
I only remember the terror of the dreams, not the dream itself

@NickDLifts Very consistent 10-6 sleeper. I walk 3-4 miles daily and do dumbbells every other day. No junk or processed food.
@NickDLifts probably because you are consuming too close to bedtime. Try to stop 2-3 hours before you go to sleep and it should improve. I track my sleep with a whoop and it helped a lot for me.
No anxiety?
You just described me.
Whats your work from home business?
Marijuana is BY FAR safer to consume than alcohol AND pharmaceutical drugs. I'll take weed over anything

Very true, but large amounts of anything won't do you any good.
Even weed every day can impact your life a lot, but I love it as well
Alright snoop dog.
It's funny how weed justifiers/lovers HAVE TO SAY "its SaFEr tHaN ALcoHoL." Cant help themselves! Teens should stay the hell away from weed. Adults who like it, whatever do ya thing.
I find peace through weed and it has always been incredibly beneficial to me. I do believe some people are more programed to accept this than others.....Alcohol seems to get a pass, unfortunately it is much more destructive to people, families and society at large.
Between 20 and 80 mg omg! I took 20 mg one time on a plane and had a vasovagal response. Thought I was having a heart attack, sweat dripping down the back of my leg while sitting there trying to act like everything is fine. At some point I just accepted that I might have been having a heart attack and committed to not telling anybody and dying in my seat. Lol

I got through university while high with a 3.5 gpa, i landed 2 solid high paying jobs, drove high, etc. It had been giving me anxiety for the last few years, then I quit cold turkey a year ago after i had a disassociation panic attack. It was my wake call that i needed to quit or surfer more severe permanent mental health issues.
That's led grown for ya. Get some outdoor or hps/mh grown. Led lighting makes it more psychoactive. It sques the thc to cbd ratio, in favor of thc. @Actinide-Firemaw I can feel that too. I have those moments as well - like Dr. Mike said though, when I ain't got much to do lol.
@Actinide-Firemawand thats where the issue lies. Most DAILY weed users don't abuse other substances really at all. This is only found with weed and most hard drug users can't can't do it because of paranoia? We like weed because it lessens stress etc and calms us but isn't bullshit made in a lab the govt is selling us. You're just a junkie. That's the issue. Lifelong pothead will get throwing into the drug addict category category a lot of folks.. when that's like comparing coffee to heroin. If all they do is smoke weed and they have a job etc. It causes zero issues. You just want to be trashed because you have no goals or passion.
People often overlook that cannabis can be a tool for reducing training impact rather than enhancing performance. It affects muscle fiber recruitment and coordination, making you less efficient during exercise. This can actually help minimize damage and allow for training with less intensity, which may aid in recovery. It’s not about pushing harder, but rather about managing the stress on your body during workouts
I'm a medical cannabis patient in the UK and we can only legally use our medicine with a medical device called a nebuliser, and it essentially "cooks" the cannabis until it releases vapour and you inhale that, and your lungs are far less irritated because it is not harsh smoke.
These are also called dry herb vapes. By far the best option to consume cannabis in my opinion.
I'm a botanist who grows cannabis as a hobby. The reason different weed when smoked does cause different effects is because of the entourage effect of the terpenes and secondary cannabinoids that are unique to each strain of cannabis. A high cbd strain is very different to a high thcv strain for example. So people are not just pulling your leg when they say that different strains can elicit different effects and that if you have paranoia problems with one there are many others you probably won't.
However, most of these secondary things are lost in the process of chemically stripping the thc out of trim (basically plant scraps that still contain thc that are not good enough quality to sell as dispensary weed.) Most large companies that make edibles/vapes use this chemical process rather than a heated press due to it being a much more time efficient method, but in doing so they destroy the entourage effect and just give you pure thc to get you fucked up. It works but that's why you don't get the same specific effects as smoking or dry vaping select strains of marijuana. Obviously if you don't want to put strain on your lungs and want easily measurable dosages edibles are a great alternative, but it is not hippy mumbo jumbo to say that a particular strain will feel very different effect wise to another. They simply lose that in using gasses like butane/propane or alcohol as solvents to distill their thc extract.
Oh, fun bonus thcv is a secondary cannabinoid that actually causes appetite suppression. So for any fellow lifters who struggle fighting the munchies try some strains higher in that. I personally grow a strain called royal thcv that is only 7% thc but also 7% thcv and its like a cup of coffee that eliminates some of my anxiety disorder and eliminates food drive. I can work or function in public great after taking it, where i cannot work on other much more thc potent strains.
nothing better than a fat spliff before going to the gym. helps me get in the zone to work out

@@alexdivietro249yep. It’s like meditation as far as how much more you feel your body and muscles in response to the weight.

I wish that worked for me but every time I try that it just makes everything seem like it’s super hard and even doing one set I feel completely exhausted. However, going mountain biking while super high is the funniest thing ever. Go figure.

So glad I clicked on this…I have exactly the same noise in my head all the time, weed quietens it down and makes me feel “normal”
Yes. You're among friends haha. I was just noting that Dr. Mike articulates my thoughts and things I say, every time he opens his mouth. It's a comforting feeling to know I'm not the only one.
Might hinder sleep, but it's a net positive sleep by helping with sleep anxiety and vivid nightmares from ptsd. Love it for that
Exactly, i'll take 8 hours of less quality sleep, than not being able to fall asleep because of anxiety, until 3 am
I’ve smoked weed for 12 years, pretty much day in day out, several times a day.
Anyone that says that weed is innocuous is lying to you. There have been clear negative effects from my abuse of it.
Either consume moderately (once a week, or less), or don’t consume at all. That’s my advice as a lifetime chronic smoker who’s struggling with quitting.
I quit smoking daily after about 12 years and you sound just how I was at that point. Just be really strict with yourself for a few weeks and it gets a lot easier. It'll suck. Your sleep will be shitty and you'll be irritable, but if you really want it enough it actually isn't that hard. After a few weeks you'll start sleeping great and will feel fresher and more alert than you have in the last 12 years. Using exercise to tire yourself out will also really help.
Great thing is now I can dabble no problem, whether thats at a friend's house who does it or when I'm off work for a week then putting it down is no big issue at all anymore. That's how I've been for the last ~10 years. I wouldn't recommend doing that until you're convinced you definitely won't fall into the same cycle. Took me about 3 months but I'm sure it varies for everyone, you might even find you're done with it altogether! A few of my friends did that and never looked back.
Drugs affect everyone differently. Some people I know in high school who were stoners, some became millionaires and some became meth heads. It’s really just a person to person thing
It was life changing for my autoimmune disease and being able to pass kidney stones without Opioids or strong pain meds.
Pain meds make me wired and I’m a fast metabolizer so
They would wear off… I didn’t like how they made me feel and it didn’t feel like it work very well.
I'm an RN and use it for ADHD on my off days. Better alternative than taking Adderall. For me combining weed with a good diet, sleep, and heavy lifting, eliminates the need for me to take stimulant medication.
I've had a lot of experience training with weed. There are upsides and downsides.
First, cannabis has been shown to influence interoception, which is the process of sensing and perceiving internal bodily states. It can affect how individuals interpret these signals, often intensifying awareness of bodily sensations.
I've had the best workouts ever while stoned, with the most intense mind-muscle connection ever.
Second, it 100% helps you physically relax after an intense training session.
However, cannabis has also been shown to reduce REM sleep and cause sleep fragmentation.
In my opinion, this completely negates the first two benefits. If you do not get adequate sleep you are severely harming every single aspect of your health.
I had to stop for this reason.
It only effects sleep if you go to sleep still high. If you sleep once the effects subside, there is no disturbance in the sleep process.
Interesting!
I'm a heavy user and big into fitness.
I have the EXACT SAME experience, except for the sleep.
I sleep deeply, no REM just like you said, no dreams. But I'm refreshed after 6 hours, easily. I miss dreaming, but my sleep feels effective.
I feel great, I wonder what I'm losing with my lack of dreams
@@dturtles33when stopping weed after being a regular user you can have have the most vivid colourful dreams. When stopping alcohol you get horrible semi halucinations visual and audio, nasty creepy things in the room with you.
Much rather withdraw from thc.
@@user-rg4vz4mb4o That's simply not true. The effects of cannabis last significantly longer than the period for which you are impaired.
@@dturtles33 Lack of dreams points to a lack of REM sleep. I'd wager even though you feel refreshed you are still leaving benefits of sleep on the table.
As an experiment, try going without weed for 1 week. You don't have to quit. Just see how your sleep patterns change after 4-5 days stone sober. For me, I realized I had a huge sleep debt accumulated.
Great little snippet, it’s nice to hear your guys’ honest thoughts and experiences about weed. I was laughing so hard at Chris hawaii edible day story 😂. This convo is giving me Joe rogan vibes, just no holding back. Really enjoyed it.
Best decision i ever made was quitting alcohol and cigarettes. Then not long after that i quit drinking coffee. I love not having to rely on a substance to get me in a mood or out of a mood. I just embrace what I'm feeling and who i am every second of everyday and rely on getting quality sleep and exercise. Works better than any drug I've ever tried.
Weed is my pre-workout. One cone before gym, and I'm good for the whole session. I lift heavier with good form, and my mind-to-muscle connection is top notch and I'm locked in. The only downfall is my cravings after gym. Currently in the process of training my brain to be more disciplined; otherwise, I punish myself (no greens and intense cardio ses lol)
I literally do the same lol 😂

I train after a smoke and the mind muscle connection is unreal. It also helps me relax after a heavy workout. I find it extremely beneficial. I dont drink alcohol and find weed for better for me but it's all personal preference.
There's a lot of variability between terpenes, dosage, consumption method and type of cannabinoids. You'll also find that your calorie intake affects the high. There's a tool for everything. Most people have no idea what to get and what to avoid.
The calm it down and not take the brain seriously resonates a lot. Recovery for work outs another huge reason as well, but for some people not taking it seriously is the gate way to productivity.

Taking a break from weed is really valuable and I think regular use is probably detrimental for most people. That said I still enjoy the occasional smoke session or edible and going for a walk or cooking and just relaxing generally. I feel it's much better than alcohol on average in terms of health consequences.
I cannot control my weed usage, feels just like what Dr Mike described. I really enjoy it. Once a week turns into weekends only, then into every night. I get more and more depressed over time, probably from the messed up sleep as well. It's a shame because it starts off so therapeutic. I've quit now and it's been really challenging
A kickback every now and then or at the end of the day is great if it doesn't negatively impact your life. +1 for weed.
Regular consumption of weed (more than once or twice a week) for most people has long term negative affects.... and it happens so slowly it's really hard to notice once you get "bad".
it's different for everyone though i guess, iv'e smoked a 3.5g zip a day the past 10 years with no affect other than being a little slow on thinking, if i quit for a day or 2 and refresh my brain i'm back to normal

Alcohol is extremely unpredictable, that’s why most violent crime is committed while drunk…
...and women
I get what you're saying and yes/no. Not to get too semantic but Alcohol is VERY predictable and it's effects are also VERY predictable. People, however, are not.
I look at alcohol kind of like an Acetone for your personality that strips off the mask and lets out the raw stuff underneath. The unpredictability comes with that even the person doing the drinking doesn't necessarily know what'll come out if you strip off enough of that initial Social Mask.
Bill hicks has such a good piece of comedy on this, if you are a comedy fan you should watch it :)
@@HarrkinI think OP was tryna say that alcohol is more unpredictable relative to weed
Sativa via oil pen has been the best pre-workout for me. Mind muscle connection and focus is just different
There's an ad for AG1 at the end. Can anyone offer objective opinion on the product? Much appreciated.
Saw another video that debunked it, saying most of the ingredients are far to Lil to be any benefit. Just a big marketing thing going on. NOT WORTH IT!.
I’ve seen some clips from Bryan Johnson (the billionaire trying to live as long as possible) he has critiqued it heavily and essentially called it an overpriced useless product.
You can get wheat grass powder and other greens powder for like $10. Maybe add a mult vitamin. And ashwangha. Super cheap. It's BS.
I like coffee, weed and a good workout in the mornings. The coffee and weed get me into this supercharged state where I feel like I have a ton of energy, but my focus and thought process nosedives, so that's why I do something productive but physical. Usually some weight lifting followed by running for cardio, then a shower and meditation, and by the time I'm done with all that, I've come down from my weed high but I still have some of the residual effects which actually improves my focus, and the caffeine keeps me from feeling like I'm going to crash out. Then I do my work for the day (I write books and play music for a living), which takes up about 5-7 hours, so clocking a normal workday, then in the evening I have dinner and a little bit of weed to relax and settle down, followed by a leisure activity (socializing, playing videogames, intimacy, reading, watching movies, listening to music, etc.), and then once I've had my 2-3 hours of fun and Zen I sober up and go to sleep, start it all over again the next day.
This is what works for me specifically. I have one friend who can rip 6 dabs in a row and it helps his ADHD and it's the only way he can get work done. I have other friends whose weed use is entirely social, so they'll only smoke at parties but not on their own time, and then I have friends who can't smoke weed at all because it gives them anxiety or makes them too lazy to do the things they want to do. Everyone has to find what's right for them with weed, and sometimes it can mean weed isn't right for you at all. For myself I know I can use weed during workouts and leisure time, but not during work or when I need to be mentally engaged.
Love y’all’s videos
I love training on cannabis. Before and after and anytime I’m stressed , way better than drinking
Interesting, when I smoke I think too much. To the point I can't relax or fall asleep. I end up laying staring at the ceiling as my thoughts race for hours. After my 20's I kinda gave it up on any type of regular basis.
People that have never built up a tolerance think of weed as something so powerful
Funny, weed takes some of my intellectual faculties into overdrive. I think slower, which allows me to examine ideas at a more granular level.
yeah if i need any of that quickly, the weed is horrible for that, but i do agree with the sentiment of examining things closer, albeit at a MUCH slower pace
I used to work all the time high. Like, long term planning, data driven, project leadership work. You get used to it. But I came to realise that my adrenaline was always up, it was stressful, I was just amping the difficulty level up. I concluded that cannot be healthy for my nervous system and stopped. I do miss it but it was a silly way to live life for me. I am certain there are people who thrive in that manner though.
Did it all day every day for a decade. No real benefit aside from slight permahigh. It messed up my ability to speak to some extent for a while. Its self induced ruhtardation. And it stops you from having dreams at night.
My dreams have come back and are intense.
Same here. I'm aiming to stay sober for at least 6 months to assess how I feel.
Not saying I'll never smoke again, but I really gotta think about being more mindful of my usage. But overall the effects haven't been great for me.

Love your podcast! Although marijuana is not for everyone. I have to say as someone with ADHD, I too cannot smoke and work. However, due to the current market in most states of recreational use, I recommend people do their research and ask questions about strains and potency cuz that makes a huge difference.
For me, my constant racing thoughts, smoking an indica at night, helps me sleep but also I have done some hybrids that can help with concentration and the ability to see things more clearly.

True. I'd say "everything in excess is unhealthy" aplies to cannabis too.
I have weed everyday in a small capacity and I’ve got to say from coming from mental illness and always in my own head it’s the best
RSO 1.5 - 2 hrs before workout. Mega focus, crazy mind/muscle bond, less fatigue. Transcendent.
Long time drinker and smoker.. quit alcohol and very rarely use THC. Not judging others, but I just don't enjoy it like I used too. Responsible adults should be free to choose what they want to do.
Weed is by far the best pre-workout, none of those stimulant jitters. Plus the mind muscle connection is next level.
it should only be for recreational purposes and not for coping... use it after completing tasks and activities to relax or for pleasure not before.. occasionally give yourself a detox to remind yourself you can do without it then you can do it again.
From what I've seen and experienced, weed is the perfect drug for chilling out a disregulated nervous system. This comes at a hormonal cost, so your gains won't be as good and if you do it too much it'll cause its own kind of disregulation. If you're trying to minmax your athletic performance, you should avoid cannabis and avoid needing cannabis, so don't overtrain, underrecover, etc. But if you do end up with a screwed up sympathetic nervous system, say from an injury and stress at work combined, then it can help ease the recovery at the cost of being a top performer, but the stress and the injury were already in the way of that
And all this being said, it's way better than alcohol in terms of health and fitness.
I hear you. As a veteran and serious person, I can't stop tokin. I'll be doing useful things, but in a more reactive way. So, I contain and control myself by smokin. I prevent my own activation.
I understand what Chris says when he says that its not something for him so much! I was like this for about 8 years. I used to smoke amd ide just get horrible experiences. Now ive started again but medically and its completely different effect for me! It really works for me its great! (It definitely isnt for everyone) I guess i got a bit lucky finding something that didnt give me the horrible experiences ive had before.
This was hilarious and entertaining, good to hear Dr Mike’s perspective on this topic
The First Minute… That's exactly for what I use it, mostly . ❤
I smoke to maintain a low base level to help with my chronic health issues. Now and then I like to get BLASTED, but because I've kept the low base level for nearly a decade I don't go to the moon in the same way. I've lost the dissociative, almost hallucinogenic affects. It would be nice to be able to get that when I want it
Either it's the tolerance or my thyroid. Idk at this point
This resonates with me SOOO much. I sometimes have so many ideas that i have literally headaches. I'm pretty afraid about using substances to numb them cause i think i could become addicted very soon
Quit from 16-18. Picked it back up in college and for YEARS I heard stayin’ alive by the beegees every time.
dr mike would be in my dream blunt rotation for sure
I love Dr. Mike's confidence and humor!! 💪
The interviewer clearly doesn't know anything about weed. His arch type argument on weed an alcohol was laughable.
I worked high every day for for 5 years and still out produced all my other colleagues. 9 months sober today 💪
I’ve never heard anyone explain weed so perfectly at least that’s exactly and I mean exactly feeling what weed does to me
This is my first exposure to Dr Mike, dude is hilarious 😂
3:18 most relatable Dr. Mike moment ever.
