Jeanene Van Zandt Thanks Jeanene! With all the respect in the world, I can't tell you how wonderful that is to hear. I've debated covering "Waitin' 'Round to Die" for a long time. It is, without question, one of my favorite songs. Your husband was as good as it gets and with respect in tow, I gave it everything I had recording it. Again, thank you very very very much. WM
Jeanene Van Zandt And I would like to Congratulate the filmmaker. It was Brilliantly executed and I got the story line right away I think. Daddy is a jealous man.
Jeanene Van Zandt makes me feel like im seeing music history being made for once in my generation. Not just some bullshit Ive heard over and over on the radio. What a song writer, what a cover, what a song. America.
This absolutely blew me away! This is how country should sound. Nashville needs to wake the hell up and realize this bro country shit just ain't cutting it. There needs to be a revolution. No more shit called pop country! Can I get an amen?!
Whitey, please, please don't ever take that "dirty road" to corporate Nashville. Please. You are amazing and your sound is perfect. Thanks for the great music.
Whitey Morgan Great job Whitney it' sounds really great. By the way I saw you opening for Bob Seger at the palace Great job sounded really really good. PS never give up brother.Mi.
I had never heard of Townes Van Zandt until a year ago. I walked into a waffle house and seen an old trucker sittin by himself crying. I asked what's the matter and he just showed me the original song, and then this one. That's how powerful a good song can be.
I absolutely love this song and killer video. I'm so sick of the bullshit the country music radio stations are throwing at us. They can keep the 'pop country' and the 'kids' who couldn't sing a real tune if their life depended on it. This will be on my nano and it will be playing when I ride down the road on my Harley Davidson! You might even catch me singing along! Godspeed
"country music radio" doesn't exist as far as i'm concerned. Look up these artists and I think you'll find much more real modern outlaw country: Rebel Son Hank Williams 3 Moccasin Creek Chris Knight Whiskey Meyers Hardy
I have listened to Townes music over and over for decades. This version catches his soul . You nailed it Whitey. Love all your music. I thank you for keeping the spirit of real country music alive. I have all your albums.
I've seen Cody Jinks numerous times, but about six months ago I saw Cody and Whitey at Billy Bob's in Ft. Worth. What a show! I really do believe these guys are the Merle Haggard's of our time. The music is already there, the music industry just hasn't caught up yet. Fuck pop country.
Damn, this is the best stuff I've heard in a while. This is what country is! A little Waylon, a little Jamey Johnson, and a whole lot of awesome! Great work!
Embarrassed to say that I have just recently discovered and boarded the Whitey Morgan and the 78's train, but the way I look at it, better late than never. Throwback to Waylon, Paycheck, Willie, Van Zandt, etc. This is the sh!t. Looking forward to the new album.
WOW!!! Mr Bob Seger himself gave you a wonderful shout out on FB with a link to this video...well if Bob is recommending a song I must give a listen...you have much talent Mr Morgan. I actually thought you were Jamie Johnson when I first saw you and you sound very very similar to him also...I enjoy this very much..as someone raised on "old country" this was like a breath of fresh air..keep doin' it right you sound great!!
Now this is COUNTRY MUSIC!!! Hats off to you and your crew!! Just can't get enough of this song and can't wait till May for the album to go on sale!! Keep up the great work!!!
This is an amazing version of an amazing song and a great video to boot. Great upcoming album. Whitey and all the guys in the band are not only talented musicians they are some of the best dudes you will ever meet. They never disappoint live and they deserve all the hard earned success they receive. Keep making true Country music Whitey. You will inspire generations of future musicians just like Townes has.
john towery Radio stations are scared. Every now and then you'll find some random stations play his music. We have 1 here in Ft Worth but in general yes you are right local radio plays trash. Nashville corporate pop rap Disney trash.
Just discovered whitey....I was at my first Cody Jinks concert and he told the crowd if you didn't know Whitey's music then we should look it up and glad I did
Best thing I have heard in at least 10 years. So I went and got every song from whitey. And I love every song. Great music. Been listening and picin. To it for 3 weeks and at work. I bet the bigs. Hate that it ain't that new bro country. Which ain't country at all.
Man this song has so much soul and you can feel it all through you listening to it, I cannot stop jamming this, I missed you in Grand Rapids Whitey. Had to work but I made sure I cranked your albums all day at work so everyone remembered I should of been gone that day.
Awesome version of one of the most beautiful songs ever written. If you have the guts to cover tune like this one, better not screw it up. This is so good. I can't stop watching it.
I'm from flint michigan and it's awesome to see some good Ole boys like this come out of that broken city I just found yall recently and haven't stopped jamming ever since keep the real country music coming!!!
I'm from Jackson, MI and I remember seeing you at The Blind Pig in Ann Arbor early on and thinking "He's going to be huge, and thank God for that!" You're doing immensely important work for country, and as a heart-felt admirer, I wish you every success!
im embarrassed to say the first time I heard this was last week on Facebook? Loved it! then tonight I was listening to Poncho and Lefty and discovered that Townes wrote both songs! So I spent the next 2 hours on youtube and Townes Van Zandt songs. I cant get enough now. Have to say I had tears when I heard Townes sing this. Sooo freakin good. Im 53 years old and just now listening to TVZ unbelievable.

You and Cody on tour together is heaven for real country music fans. I will fly, drive or take a train to see yall. I have been trying to get radio stations here in columbus ohio to play yall.
Absolutely amazing. I've never left a comment on somebody's video, but you did a great justice to this song and opened up the eyes of a lot of people who have been missing out... And, most likely, turned some new people on to another timeless musician. Thanks, man.
❤what a talent you have . My son is a true longtime listener, has seen you in concert and adores your music. I know why. we will see you in Tacoma next weekend.
Usually not a big fan of cover songs, but HOLY SHIT! This is just amazing! How in the hell is Mr. Whitey Morgan not number one with a bullet on the charts?
Damn Kyle S.! I like to have sit & have a beer or 12 with you buddy! You sure we weren't seperated at birth or some shit? Keep up the good fight brother. Raisin' my shot glass to you right now.
I know you are Kyle S. I couldn't have said it better myself. I realize looking at my comment from yesterday, That I must have been pretty lit off the whiskey! LOL. But yeah, you were spot on buddy! I raise a glass to you my friend.
Helluva cover! Always loved Whitey Morgan and he was perfect to cover some Townes Van Zandt. Can't wait for the new album Keep it comin brother, real country ain't dead!
Wow! Brother, you absolutely nailed this song! This is one of the most haunting, rawest songs ever written and when performed by lesser talents it becomes a train wreck pretty quickly! The first time I heard it was in the film/documentary, "Heartworn Highways". When TVZ sat in his trailer in the old Clarksville section of Austin, TX, and played it to Uncle Seymour Washington, his crazy girlfriend, Cindy and his dog, Geraldine! The song brought Uncle Seymour to tears, and this is a man known as the "walkin' blacksmith"! A black man born in Texas in 1896, he certainly had his share of dark memories built up over his 80 years of life! If a song can bring a man that hard and tough to tears then you've met the writer's goal! Take your audience out of their comfort level and make them feel!! Well, it was pretty obvious you took this song with you to that place in your soul, that most of us are afraid to open the door on! We're afraid to go there, because it's a place of broken glass, old tears, spilt whiskey, shattered promises, empty apologies, and ideas and dreams that have long ago passed their expiration date! Obviously , Townes wrote this from a pretty dark place and if you're gonna do it justice as a performer, you'd better connect with the lyrics at a visceral level! Well, like I said at the start, dude, you killed it! Thanks!
Boy oh boy....is this the best freakin song i've heard in the last years or what!? Die hard fan from mex city. Excellent work W.M!!! You know how to make real country music. Keep on keepin on!!
This isn't good country music - Naw, man, this is just effing good music - period! (thanks to you and Townes)... Whitey, There's railroad pain in your voice And tons of yesterdays in your eyes. The cold men feel in their soul Is just waiting for the lies. Stay true, brother.
Not usually much of a country music fan, but I just joined a grassroots country-ish band. Upon researching this song I came across your rendition and it's pretty damn special. Great vocals and feeling throughout. Also, whoever the brunette is in the video.... just, WOW!
Man, you guys played at my cousins 30th birthday party at the Upper Peninsula Club in Whitmore Lake, Michigan probably 14-15 years ago! I was maybe 16 at the time and loved your guys music! Got to sit around the fire with you guys after the show. Doubt you’ll remember, but it was a hell of an experience for a young country fan like me back then. Glad to see you guys are still around and making great music. Hope to see you guys in concert again!
You are awesome Whitey..Keep playing that music.. Hope to see you tonight at Bob Seger concert in Indianapolis!! Just bought ALL three albums of yours today!!
Stephen Gant Hell Yeah. Thanks for the support! What an honor it was to open up for Seger. He is the hardest working, most sincere artist I have ever met. Ever.
Great job and a nice surprise. I am sitting up here in East Texas. Today seemed to be a Townes listening type of day. Tears rolling down like the spring rain. RIP TVZ
I consider myself so lucky to have discovered Townes about forty years ago and equally blessed to get to know and respect you by way of Outlaw Country. One word for this.....Amazing!!
Ron Kryder Hey Ron. Thank you very much. The respect I have for Townes is beyond words. I'm sure you understand. Was an honor to cover this amazing song.
this song makes me think of one of the best friends I have ever had that is now gone for the last 3 months after an accident we used to sit around drink beer and listen to music all the time ride are harleys and having fun rest in peace Dickie bird miss u my brother thangs are not the same
Becoming a really big fan of whitey great job keeping outlaw country alive it would be awesome to see a tour with Chris Stapleton Cody jinks and whitey Morgan be a hell of a show
Whitey, thanks for bringing back a great song! Townes did it amazing and you have successfully created your own brand of this great piece! I have been a fan of yours since I first heard your music from my buddy Toby Aderhold. I also love your live show and the fact you played just as hard for the 25 of us that were at Peachtree Tavern Atlanta a couple years ago. You were a pleasure to sit and chat with that night! Thank you sir for being a stand up guy and great artist!
Dearest Whitey, I was married to Townes and am the Proud owner of this song. I LOVE this! Townes would Love this. It's AWESOME!
Jeanene Van Zandt Thanks Jeanene! With all the respect in the world, I can't tell you how wonderful that is to hear. I've debated covering "Waitin' 'Round to Die" for a long time. Amen
Whitey, please, please don't ever take that "dirty road" to corporate Nashville. Please. You are amazing and your sound is perfect. Thanks for the great music.
Jen Linville Not going to happen
+Whitey Morgan I think this is amazing. You kept the melancholy of the lyrics but ratcheted up the spooky/ominous factor. I think TVZ would approve.
+Jen Linville Nah he deserves the money. You just gotta have faith that he won't change.
+mmcolony The money don't come for free. It comes with inherent strings attached that you can't cut without cuttin the money too.
Make your own recordings, upload them... make your money on tour is the business model these days.
Good news! "Waitin' 'Round to Die" is now available on itunes, google play and amazon! Appreciate all the incredible feedback! Means a ton! WM
Whitey Morgan Great job Whitney it' sounds really great. By the way I saw you opening for Bob Seger at the palace Great job sounded really really good. PS never give up brother.Mi.
Pre-ordered. Can't wait for it to release.

Covering Townes is the toughest thing, I used to see him all the time in Texas when I was younger and he would have loved you doing this.
James Schram VERY TOUGH. I did not take it lightly and I considered doing it for many years, before I was ready.
Simply the best version of this classic song. Chilled to the marrow hearing it for the first time.
With that song I live every day

Becoming a really big fan of whitey great job keeping outlaw country alive it would be awesome to see a tour with Chris Stapleton Cody jinks and whitey Morgan be a hell of a show
Hearing the intro of this song makes me smile! Anyone who likes what’s on the radio now shouldn’t have an opinion
Gave me chills. You did good man. Glad I found you. Big thumbs up to the filmmaker as well. This rendition and the visuals are perfectly captured.
I found this song in 2019 and I always come around when I think Its easier to wait around then die, Thank you ❤
Whitey, thanks for bringing back a great song!
Andy Cagle Thanks for the support! I remember the Peachtree!
My favorite Townes song. This is amazing.
