Got a 2015 civic and so far loving it. Yes, there are some minor stuff I had fixed (2 things in the four years I’ve owned). Looking to keep it for awhile! Fingers crossed.
Dude you need to get some kinda Oscar or award for your review.. it's not only a review about the car but also getting a good deal and not getting ripped off... I'll be taking all your advice when I go take a look at this 2013 Honda civic.. they're asking $7,999 with 78k..seems to good to be true huh? Well we'll see when I get there..and thanks for sharing all these info about the civic.
Joe must be right about not many people doing pre-purchase inspections. I've done two in the last month with two different Honda dealers (a third stonewalled me). All three times, the person answering the phone in the service dept. had no idea what I was talking about. I had to ask to speak with the supervisor to confirm (the third hung up). Some call them used car inspections, buyer inspections, multipoint inspections. If there's confusion, they might think you're asking about a state inspection sticker or a lease return/inspection. Whatever the case, be polite and ask to speak with the manager. And as Joe said, the money is well spent. Instant peace of mind.
Bumper comes off all the time. Had it fixed 6 times. Wheel bearings have been replaced twice. Battery twice and a starter. Still runs strong at 215k miles.
2015 Honda Civic is a great, reliable vehicle. Mine just hit the 80k mileage mark in odometer. Just realized its been seven years since rolling off the vehicle from the dealership brand new in 2015. Worth buying the vehicle second-hand if you can land a deal!
dang! how things have changed in the auto world in 2022! I came across this video because im considering buying a 2015 manual and today in 2022, the price is about 15k for a 2015.. whew!
Civics can ez go 300K PLUS. Easy to maintain, I have a 2012 civic with 129K, and looks like it just came off the assembly line. Just take care of them, and by all means change the dam oil on time....Rotate tires and stay on the maintenance.... THANKS Joe Tunney... Keep up the good tips.
What is "can ez go 300,000K PLUS"? I bought a new 2013 Honda civic & it's been in the shop so many times. Replacing bearings, code & emission problems. It's also the noisiest car I've ever owned. Don't even think about listening to an audiobook in your Honda Civic. The road noise drowns out the audio. The seats are too hard to go on a long trip. Civics are just a car for college kids.
@@Bilytkid You must of got a bad apple or a civic built just before shift change. I have never experienced any bearings, or codes in ANY Honda i have ever own, and i have have lots of Honda's Some used some brand new. I admit, civic's are not that great on a long trips, But i guess i have had better luck with them. I put 367K on one civic i had, (Basic Maintenance*). There's good and bad in any brand.
I've decided to save up for a 2013 civic (it'll probably have to have over 100k miles on it, but it's a Honda) and this video is incredibly informative, helpful, and confidence building. Thank you very much!
100,000 miles+ is no problem on a Civic...however, make certain you get a buyer's inspection at the Honda dealer before you buy - it's the best $149 you'll ever spend.
@@everycarSeattle Thank you very much! That's encouraging to hear especially since one with 140k is still close to $9,000 dollars I will definitely get that buyer's inspection, too.
One complaint on these is how you can't open the trunk without using the drivers side latch when the doors are open. This guy I'd impressive though, like wow he's great at giving his knowledge and experience.
I found a 2012 Civic LX 5 speed in good condition. 88k miles with good owners. The biggest service was a clutch replacement in 2020. Biggest cosmetic issue is it may need a new paint job. Had a small fender bender bumper but only cosmetic. Drives and shifts into every gear with no grinds or pops. Clean fully stock everything. They wanted $8300 and got them to go to $7500 due to the paint. One side of the hood line looks a little off compared to the other side. Clean carfax but that only shows what was reported. The current owners dont know if the previous owner had any accidents not reported. Thoughts anyone???
I bought a 2014 certified pre owned civic lx with 28k miles in 2016. I got ripped off, they told me the car was 15k but after everything my loan was 19k even with 1k down. I was stupid. I still have the car though and haven't had any problems. Good car.
You've got a great car D Chatz...the good news is that even with a deal that didn't live up to your expectations you have a problem-free and wonderful car that will still be worth a lot of money for many years to come.
I am really happy to have come across your channel; amazing tips. Thank God, even after Scotty Kilmer retires, we will have great men like Joe guiding us.
I have been burned with autos.... Here is my experience and my honest lessons. My first car was an old buick lesabre which honestly did the job, but the subframe completely rusted and my transmission and engine sagged scraping the ground. I was young had no ability to work on it because I didn't really have a home or tools. Car got scrapped. Drove for maybe 3 years My second car was a cheap Subaru outback that I got for cheap and again I didn't really know much about cars at this time I had the Subaru only a short time before it blew up on the highway leaking oil all over the road. Subaru got scrapped. Drove for maybe a couple months. My third car was a Saturn Vue. At this point I started to kinda learn more about vehicles, I drove this car maybe 1 year, it was clean body wise and interior wise but it kept just shutting down on the road and I wouldn't be able to start it again. I think it had something to do with the ECU putting it into limp mode. I think they put the ecu right on the engine for some reason and so what would happen is that on a hot day it would cause problems with the limp mode. I was able to sell that car. I was depressed, but my mom actually helped me get an 02 Hyundai Elantra, at this point I STILL didn't know much about cars, but I was looking at used cars on craigslist and me and my mom saw an 02 Hyundai Elantra for $1k, we went to go look at it, a mechanic said it was ok enough and my mom for some reason gravitated to it. I was skeptical because it was a Hyundai, but my mom was able to get the lady who owned it down to $500. That car was the biggest automotive blessing of my life. I drove it for 8 years with very little problems and maintenance. The car was sht don't get wrong, the handles didn't work, the windows barely rolled down, it was beat up, the plastics were breaking, the ac worked but the buttons were finnicky, BUT it was reliable and reasonbly fuel efficient. I saved up a LOT of money because of that car. I ended up giving it away just recently because I was moving states and there is a young girl who helps my mom clean and I wanted a truck so I gave it to her. Kinda regret giving it away to be honest. The truck I got was a 91 f150. By this point in my life I actually know WAY more about cars than I did and I thought I could maintain that old F150........... I was WRONG. That thing had PROBLEM after PROBLEM, I am currently in the process of either selling it or scapping it. Currently I am in an 06 Honda Civic with 206,000 miles and the car is still clean and drives well, everything works well inside of it, we will see how long it lasts......... I have currently learned that SEDANS are the way to go. After working on the truck I realized just how much more expensive working on a truck is vs a car. The tires are way more expensive, the parts are way more expensive. These Sedans I have had have all been decent cars. So from now on I am giving up on trucks unless I ABSOLUTELY need one, I am sticking with sedans because they are cheaper to buy, they are more reliable, the have cheaper maintenance cost, and I just personally have had great experiences with sedans. Another thing I have learned is it's all about maintenance. The truck was poorly maintained, the Subaru was poorly maintained, the Lesabre as well. When buying a used car the owner history and maintenance are HUGE. The Elantra was beat up and probably poorly maintained but man it still just ran for some reason idk. For used cars how it was treated is VERY IMPORTANT. I have watched "the car angel" and I completely agree with everything he said. The 06 Honda civic I am in has 200,000 miles yet the brake pedal has very little wear, and the front has tiny little rock chips from driving on the highway. I can tell these miles are mostly highway miles, the interior is mostly good. So I think looking at the brake pedal, steering wheel, looking at the body panels, looking at signs of maintenance or shoddy repair work is very important when buying a used car. I have saved up money so from now on I will only be buying 1-2 owner sedans with good maintenance history. Mostly looking for Honda, Acura, Toyota, Lexus sedans, but if I find a really good deal on a Hyundai, or a Nissan, I might look into it. What I like about the Civic over the Elantra I had is that I can just tell the Civics interior is built WAY better. That Elantras interior was all broken apart and cheap. SUVs trucks, hatchbacks, come at a cost. Bigger engines, bigger transmissions, bigger tires, bigger brakes, lower fuel economy, more expensive, on and on and on. I think Sedans are the sweet point for frugality. I read an article that often Sedans can have more USABLE cargo space than hatchbacks. I still think hatchbacks have more cargo, but don't be so quick to throw out the sedan. I would only buy a truck or a van if I had a business that required it, nowadays I would rather just rent a truck for moving, etc. If you are a young person just looking for a low maintenance vehicle that is RELIABLE. I would definitely look into 4 cylinder Asian sedans. Find something that was taken care of, and you should be good!
I'm kind of a fan of having additional undercoating done. I've had mine undercoated after I bought new. I've seen other vans, trucks, rust and it gets ugly. My car I've had since 2007 and it's condition is still like new in 2022. I also try to keep in the garage as much as possible. I think back then it was Zeibart I had done? I don't know if Zeibart is still around. But winters don't bother me. Also, after salty wintry roads, get your car washed to also help get that road stuff off the bottom.
Bought a 14’ touring in 9th gen style with way better features off the lot. My husband put some money into it and its incredibly fast now handles amazing.
Looking to trade my 2016 Nissan Versa for one of these. I’ll take a Honda 5 speed automatic/manual transmission over a junky Nissan CVT. Wish I would of went that route back then.
This is crazy helpful, thank you so much! Didn’t know about buyer’s inspection, now definitely gonna get one. I’ve seen a lot of 2012’s in the used market and that year seems to have drawn some critics...do you think it’s worth going to 2013+?
Hi Jon...I was pointing out that the price range from a "slightly junky" LX model to an immaculate EXL model was a pretty broad range. You can always get a Civic for cheap, but sometimes it's better to spend a little bit more and get one that is nice.
I bought a 2013 Civic eco version mainly bc it’s a fact that people don’t buy economy versions of cars to Drive them hard or fast... and generally take better care of them than the higher priced more performance based models... especially a used vehicle that you want to last, no issues and now at 150,000 miles.... the “ hood trick” isn’t reliable at all bro, as a detailer for a used dealership I can promise you that you should look at the inner fender seems, only sure way to tell, it’s not hard to find a hood that matches that particular car color
That's an awesome car for the money. VW got massacred for defrauding the public about their diesel engines and now you can buy a used VW of any kind very inexpensively. It's a smart buy.
@@everycarSeattle you think I should buy a Honda civic 2012 LX? It has 109,000 miles they had it since 2011(first owners) and they are selling it for $10k. You think it’s worth it in your opinion
Honda is 140BHP but remember it is from a 1.8L naturally aspirated engine giving it around 77HP/L - The engine only sounds harsh when at 80MPH+ otherwise it is smooth.
...and be careful on that with Civic, a great many of them do not put stickers on all the panels and you'll swear even brand new cars have been whacked.
Good video, done right. Yeah, the dent and scratch repair for 1000 dollars and the dealer had audacity to put a 250 dollar deductible in the policy I started laughing in the office.
Just purchased a 2015 civic EX....why do dealers add theses bogus fees? Dealer prep fee $695.00. The advertised price is $11, 300 AFTER you put down $2,000... So the real price is actually $2,695.00 more than advertised. I finally found a Honda dealer that honored the internet advertised price that was $3,000.00 less than there sticker price. But we did have to finance threw the dealer...I bet Joe Tunny doesnt have bogus fees...
Joe Tunney thanks for all the tips. My son left his 2013 Civic at a friends house while he was over seas and upon his return there is a foul smell to the car. It is noticeable inside and out. He thinks a small animal like a rat or team of rats moved in and perhaps died. Is there someplace you could suggest looking for them?
I’m looking at a 2012 civic tomorrow and they’re asking for $7500, I’m planning to offer $7000. It’s certified, has 152 000km on it, excellent condition, comes with 4 new snow tires and 4 new all season tires. Is this a good buy?
Hi, please I’m about to buy a damaged Honda Civic 2013 refurbished like new which sells for 6 800$. Damaged from an accident in the back. But now refurbished like a new. Is it a good buy ? Thanks in advance!
If I get the buyer's inspection at the same honda dealer I am buying from isn't it a conflict of interest for them to provide me an honest review of the state of the car
financed an si 2013. only owned it for a week and I ended up being the one to diagnose the vehicle that dies and sometimes doesn't start even with new battery, rear wheels are bent and sunroof and broken.
@@NetomaMusic i swapped that si for an lx 4 dr manual and paid that off. i recently purchased a 2013 si coupe 2 months ago and that 2.4 with more torque than 2.0 is very nice comparing them. also the clear coat issue and the transmission of the last gen
A "technical" question: American Honda's show on the IMID-screen mileage and range at the same time, European Honda's show actual fuel consumption (the moving bar) and mileage. I would like to see it like the American Honda's: average fuel consumption and range, at the same time, do you think that is possible? (hidden menu's?....)
I don't think there's a hidden menu...I had aftermarket gauges on one of my cars that gave me that option but aftermarket gauges can look ugly in many cases.
The one that's the lowest price for the miles and condition that passes a buyer's inspection at the Honda dealer before you buy. Resale value between all 3 say, 5 years from now, will be modestly different. Go for the best deal.
The Fast Lane with Joe Tunney was wondering about the reliability, no recalls on the 2013, but there are recalls on 2014 which comes with cvt transmission and, and the both 2015 and had recalls regarding a transmission software issue, thats why i was wondering if the 2013 was the most reliable and if I should get the 2013 instead of the 2015 even tho I want a younger vehicle

I spent some time in Ghent and quickly discovered how strangely unpopular Japanese vehicles were...it was a big shock coming from the western US where that's all people drive. I'd ask if people worried about the service and repair issues compared to Honda and Toyota and pretty much every person I said that to looked at me like I was a lunatic. However, soon thereafter I discovered genever and Kwak beer (and those crazy vessels they serve Kwak in) and Belgians were back atop my coolest people in the world list.
@@everycarSeattle We have hundreds of beers in Belgium and it is always difficult which one to advice to a visitor because taste is personnel. I like "Duvel", a bitter beer :-)
Joe, I dont think you touched on the CVT Transmission, which is known to have issues with some makers... I just bought a civic with a CVT at 70km and neglected to research the transmission. Some people complain, should I worry? Should I go back and buy the Certified/PowerTrain warranty?
People have bashed CVT's (myself included) forever. They don't last as long as conventional transmissions and the performance is sluggish. Early Civic HX models had CVT's that regularly had issues before they crossed 200km. However, newer Civic transmissions are the gold standard of reliability and regularly exceed 250km with zero worries. A 4 year, 80km from today bumper to bumper warranty on that car is about $1500US. If you're going to get a warranty, get that one. Peace of mind is a beautiful thing...but odds are that you won't use it even once for anything.
@@everycarSeattle wow, thank you for the quick response. I forgot to mention it was a '15. I got it off a Honda dealer. Im really tempted to get the warranty, but i also saved a lot on the car (13000 CAD after taxes) and am really tight on budget. Its another grand I think. I appreciate that Victor...thank you so much for taking a look!
Today is Day #1 for my new channel "Back to the Starting Line with Joe Tunney" which features a lot of sales and career motivation for high-income sales executives - The Fast Lane with Joe Tunney will still be dedicated to cars. Here is the first video: ua-cam.com/video/e93qVT9q0bM/v-deo.html - please like and subscribe if you can! Mahalo!
Got a 2015 civic and so far loving it. Yes, there are some minor stuff I had fixed (2 things in the four years I’ve owned). Looking to keep it for awhile! Fingers crossed.
You have a great car with amazing resale value that will still have amazing resale value 10 years from now.

Dude you need to get some kinda Oscar or award for your review.. it's not only a review about the car but also getting a good deal and not getting ripped off... Well we'll see when I get there..and thanks for sharing all these info about the civic.
Excellent tips, despite being a old video. Wish you were on the east coast. You're a rare salesman, honest and very informative. 👍🏽👍🏽
I appreciate that!
Only twice? I have 92,000 miles on my Civic. I'm on the 4th set of front wheel bearings. They go out from 5,000 to 35,000 miles.
"Who changed the contrast again?" hahaha

Just take care of them, and by all means
change the dam oil on time....Rotate tires and stay on the maintenance....
Thank you for your advice. Have a Blessed Day Amigos and also a Merry Christmas. Adios.
The CVT may get better mpg than the manual, but the manual will still be on the road years after that CVT has been scrapped.

Thanks for taking a look Sherri, I appreciate it!
Wow you look just like Honda Pro Jason! I have. 2015 with a cvt and it lags when you hit the gas! I wish they kept the 2013 transmission.
I'm not the biggest fan of CVT's...I'm with you Robert that the 2013 transmission is the better performer.
That's encouraging to hear especially since one with 140k is still close to $9,000 dollars
I will definitely get that buyer's inspection, too.
I assume this inspection is already carried out if you buy from a Honda dealer?
why is the video deepfried
One complaint on these is how you can't open the trunk without using the drivers side latch when the doors are open. This guy I'd impressive though, like wow he's great at giving his knowledge and experience.

The Fast Lane with Joe Tunney someone is offering me this car for $8800 with 77200 miles. Is that a good deal?
Watching this in 2021 and the asking prices for these cars are the same as 5 years ago
Love the miles and the recent clutch. It's still worth 4 grand with shot paint 100,000 miles from now.
What a guy! Thanks for the best tips I’ve ever found online.

Drove for maybe 3 years
My second car was a cheap Subaru outback that I got for cheap and again I didn't really know much about cars at this time I had the Subaru only a short time before it blew up on the highway leaking oil all over the road.
Thank you for this , buying a 2015 civic ex coupe this week and this video was extremely helpful .
Thank you so much, im about to buy a 2013 use model and this whas very helpful, video quality no so much.

This is crazy helpful, thank you so much! Didn’t know about buyer’s inspection, now definitely gonna get one. I’ve seen a lot of 2012’s in the used market and that year seems to have drawn some critics...do you think it’s worth going to 2013+?
I have a 2012 it’s a amazing car but I would get the 2013 if u can
3:01 why would you call an LX model junky when the EX is just few more features? are they not mechanically the same?
The contrast is bothering me :/
I got a 2011 VW Jetta S 2.0 for $3.7k. I got it from my nearby Honda dealer. My car had 100k miles but I’ve never had an issue with it.

Good video, done right. Yeah, the dent and scratch repair for 1000 dollars and the dealer had audacity to put a 250 dollar deductible in the policy I started laughing in the office.
Sometimes dealers try to sell things that make you roll your eyes with disappointment...but so long as people pay they'll keep trying.

Of the 2013, 2014 and 2015 honda civic Whats the best year to buy
Quoting prices without stating the mileage is a mistake. So $17,000 for an ex you said? What about one with 30,000 miles or one with 92,000?

I spent some time in Ghent and quickly discovered how strangely unpopular Japanese vehicles were...it was a big shock coming from the western US where that's all people drive. I'd ask if people worried about the service and repair issues compared to Honda and Toyota and pretty much every person I said that to looked at me like I was a lunatic.
