Try 250 total str+luk to get full damage of Vassal then compare it again, I think it will be the same damage 20% Vs 20%.

Yeah, they give virtually the same dmg bonus when conditions are met. I can't, however, afford to spend status points on str on my ranger.
Tyrant gives full bonus damage when at max level. Vassalage requires me to sacrifice stat points to get the full bonus, hence the Tyrant works better for my build. 🙂
