The weirdest part of locking the battle forge to me is that it's literally a shopping cart for the models, and for people who get analysis-paralysis it lets you build and examine everything to your liking, which streamlines the purchase process. Changing this does not make any sense whatsoever. AND THEN to lock us out of the Tyranid datasheets? I'm trying to start a 2nd army as nids and now I have to buy the physical codex, which I don't even want, just to see my datasheets? No thanks GW, I could buy at least 1 model kit for the same price. I will just look it up online somewhere less than reputable, sorry. To make things worse, for Canadians like myself, you can't even pay to get access. Warhammer + is just not available at all, so we have no way to get access back even if we wanted to pay them for it.
That’s awful for you guys across the way and a massive over site! I don’t mind paying for new rules but when the price tag is as massive as it is for effectively 10-20 pages that I’ll use it’s not for me! The angle that it leads to more sales I’d say is a mega over-site and I totally agree with you
Yeah ive binned the app now and using New Recruit (web based list building, using battlescribe data). If GW had just kept it to the WTV subscription, which included releasing new codex data, I bet 99% of players would have signed up. Codexes would have still sold as collectors items or they could have repurposed them as showcase books for armies, putting more emphasis on lore, pictures of models and maybe bring back written painting guides. Then when it comes to rules they can have the basics but inform readers to go to the app for the most up to date rules. I am normally an ardent defender of GW and think most of the whining the community throws at them is exaggerated and made out of ignorance, however this one is just a dumb decision made out of greed.
Agree with everything you said. We love to remain positive and accept it’s an expensive hobby that ultimately is not something you “need” to do. We would’ve 100% shelled out for said app. But will be looking to support elsewhere!
I’m new to this game and community so I haven’t experienced this frustration yet. I have noticed the supply issue and if they took half of their game to the digital realm then it would help them. I would rather lose dead tree copies and be forced into an application that is up to date than mess around with dataslates and errata.
It's an amazing game, with an awesome community. Great friends to be made and epic lore. The models and sculpts are fantastic. Some things change, that causes a degree of upset. And then, there are a few things that maybe just a bit behind the times.
If you could get full access through either buying the codices or through Warhammer+, I think I'd be fine with it. I mean, I was probably going to get the codices for my armies anyways, so it's whatever. But needing both? Now I'm probably not even going to buy the codices. I'll just wait until they eventually become available through 3rd party sources.
I’ve been seeing a lot of people talking about just printing rules as they appear online. We do like to support GW but I find it so wasteful having an expensive book that I throw away 2-3 years after purchase when it becomes obsolete!
@@narrativecrusades707 Yep, that's it. Look, I love the codices. They don't just have the rules, they also tend to have lore tidbits and cool short stories that are fun to read. But, I feel that buying what is essentially the rulebook for an army should give you access to any tools available to build and organize your army. True! Just as greedy as EA: but GW is a lot more (even more?) stupid with it... My sympathy is with the poor staff left trying to flog this lemon, it cant feel great at the moment and I have a feeling its going to feel worse as this edition rolls on.
That's true. But as each lost gets a codex, you won't be able to see any of the rules any more. The discussion is more about rules transparency than list building problems

Actually felt a bit annoyed after seeing I cant look at the rules for a buch of stuff in the Leviathan box
Fair. Just looking now, you can't even download the index cards. I guess the only position they have is the rules are in the box. Very backwards thinking. I would love to know the profit on codexs vs how much loss there is from upset people.
So warhammer+ and all the codexes just so you can see all the rules. Fu*k this. They greed knows no bonds. GW makes one step forward only to run back five.
Even if they charged like 1-5 pounds and you only got the rules I’d be happy with that! Such a shame really. I don’t think them trying to push wharhammer + is working too well
I am in full support of refusing to support Warhammer Plus. Given GW's usage of the platform to bully fan creators with overly aggressive fan creation policies, the poor quality of the service and its content, the post-editing of Astartes after acquiring it, and dropping Firstborn marines to make everyone buy Primaris (after saying they wouldn't), I say vote with the wallet where it matters to them.
Hey dude haven’t heard from you in a while! I’m gutted to have not seen anything new from astartes since they went under GW. I’ve not seen any of the gw animations personally.
