If you added one compartment, somewhere, that I could quickly shove something into without undoing a buckle, I'd buy this one, because I'm looking for a larger bag. But there's no open side slots, no open back slot, and the front pockets are fully sewn on. I use the Flight Bag and the Doctor's Bag all the time, and I'm constantly sticking phones, wallets, pens, receipts, etc., into the open slots when I'm in a hurry. I'd really miss being able to do that on this bag.

I guess it depends on how much you pack in it. I'm sure it could fit if you don't overpack it but then there's the question of what airline you're asking and how stringent they are about it. For example, Scandinavian Airlines state that an underseat bag can be no larger than 12x16x6 and this duffle bag is 12x20x9 inches. Clearly it's a bit too wide but I doubt that they would force me to check it just because of that little difference. EasyJet and the likes would be a whole other story though...
