Fountain pens died a slow death. Long after the ballpoint had been introduced, you could still buy fountain pens in any bookstore. I used fountain pens exclusively through the late 1960's. By then, virtually all models were the cartridge variety. Sheaffer and Wearever were the common cartridge brands in any book or department store. The price was $1 for either, and often included several extra ink cartridges.
Yes. The Sheaffer $ 1 cartridge pen remained in stores for decades. I bought one when I was 10 years old in the 1980's and still have it. You can still buy cartridges. Fountain pens are starting to pick up steam again.
I love Sheaffer. I was born in the 2000s so never got a chance to see a fountain pen casually available in stores. Vintage pens are my favorite to use. It’s sad to see these pens aren’t used much anymore.
Thank you very much for a wonderful video. Love the old advertisements. Love, especially, Sheaffer fountain pens.
I had three Sheaffer pens and love them all.
4:51. "Convincing? Yes" My favourite quote ever
My first pen was Sheaffer Student bought in September 1964 for $.99. Still using it today.

And we are enjoying the rebirth....The fountain pen community is growing daily.

@@stargazer1359 completely agree!
Had never used or seen a fountain pen 20 years ago and now I have a dozen and write with one daily. Definitely coming back in a big way.
Absolutely marvellous to see this.
Wonderful bits of history! Thank you for uploading these!

The fountain pen subreddit has almost 300 thousand followers! We're not letting these pens die just yet :)
Bring this brand back!
Good news they never stopped
Awesome pens! Thank you so much for your work!
Wonderful to see, thank you!
I dream a Sheaffer's snorkel 🤤
Writing on cigarette paper......Ah, the old days....
Mom had one. Nice pen.
When did Sheaffer's become Sheaffer?
1963
I wonder if the feathertouch was really a "ballpoint" or more of a rollerball?
