I understand the last word in NCO is officer but ask any E5 and higher if they are an officer and they will all respond the same way. That they aren't officers they work for a living. I was taking note of his humble laugh. When Colbert, or others like him have interviewed Anderson Cooper he does the same thing. It was so fascinating to see this clearly important military man exhibit such humility and sense of humor. Kudos to him

Heard a great interview with Colbert when he was still doing the Colbert Report. They asked him how he did such goofy pieces for his show and the first thing he said was "The first thing I tell the subject is 'I want you to understand that I'm a complete idiot, so this interview will be absolutely absurd.' " Yup, you have me full convinced Stephen and it's totally GREAT.

The military guy is a guy who knows his audience, I guess! 😂
I have performed at Thule. Survival huts every hundred yards just in case. But in spring, in the course of a few hours the distant gravel mountains bloomed with billions of tiny flowers, totally unexpected. Good folks, 6000 men, six women. What could possibly go wrong?

Curious, I checked out his channel, and sure enough - he's an accomplished pianist and Hammond organ player (a classic - yes!) who's played the Monterey Jazz Festival a few times and has a number of protects on the go. I subscribed. I'm a jazz & blues singer in Canada, so it's right up my alley.
Thank you so much for this series and your USO trip! I think it's important to highlight all the important work the Air Force was and Space Force is doing to keep us all safe. There's a misconception that it's about fighting aliens or militarizing the Moon, but there's a very real contest going on to dominate our access to all the wonderful things satellites and ground stations looking spaceward do for us right here on Earth. It's comforting to see these intrepid guardians holding their professionalism in the face of both real threats and your humor!

You may notice that top ranked military officers with large responsibilities tend to be very emotionally healthy individuals. You can't get to that position if you're not, because there aren't too many of those positions. This is a top ranking NCO.

Stephen does the best on-site interviews. Reminds me of when he used to interview obscure politicians of tiny districts. And Towberman played a great straight man to Colbert's jokes.
Someday, hopefully in the not too distant future, I hope Stephen can interview President Zelenskyy. Not as a comedy bit, like this, but a serious interview with the inevitable scattered jokes as only Stephen can do. I think comedian to comedian, it would be epic.

My dad was stationed in Thule during the Korean War. He devised furnaces for the enlisted men and the officers were not happy.
That segues nicely into why the grumpy officers had ICBMs and the enlisted guys didn't.

I was stationed at Thule 1982-1983 and worked at J-Site (when we had the old style radar). It was quite the experience.
