I really enjoy the format of these videos, the combination each time of a recipe with some helpful tips and tricks on a variety of subjects is really nice. Plus the edits with occasional B-Roll are very nice aswel. I figured it needed to be said, good job keep up the nice work
Those red tanks can last forever if you do it right. I only have the regulator on when in use. Also, I barely open the valve so that the bubbles are barely breaking the surface. Then let it go for a minute. I’ve probably done 10 batches, and it’s still going.
Learning about the workings of liquid disconnects and how to properly clean them was the surprise knowledge of the day in this video! Thanks for spreading the good word, Martin!
I've read a couple of Ron Pattinson's books about Scottish brewing and he finds through brewing logs and records that their attenuation was typically very low. He speculates that the Scotts simply liked their beer sweet and malty and as far as he has been able to determine the breweries achieved low attenuation intentionally to achieve that characteristic.
I remember Wee Heavies being drunk in the pub as a chaser by old men with their whisky. They'd order a whisky and Wee Heavy and alternate between the two. Not many left in production commercially in Scotland now, I've only ever tried a Mackesons Wee heavy, sold in 330ml cans. Never something ive seen drunk in pints. Enjoying the series, cheers.
you have just inspired me to brew something similar, I'm in south east Australia we are snowed in down here, not sure if you saw the news snowing in places that rarely get snow, love dark beers heaps in the cold but I find that they taste better when they are aged for 1 to 2 Months even if they are around the 5% mark so I bottle my stouts and porters
I think you can recycle the O2 tanks at the hardware store. Also, some hardware stores might give you a discount if you buy another O2 tank at the same time you exchange the used one.
MARTIN.... BUDDY.... Well, I guess you have to learn sometime... Those things get NASTY.. BTW your Picnic taps come apart too.. Just sayin' Oxygenation is something I don't do all the time either. Looks like an Anvil bucket fermenter!! I'm sure we'll hear about that soon too! Cheers Buddy!
Stronger beer with a bonus smaller beer? I'm sensing parti-gyle brewing! I just did this with a hybrid Cascadian Dark/NEIPA brew with a session Black IPA that both turned out FANTASTIC! For your brew day, however, I'm guessing Belgian Tripel and Patersbier. Great combo! It's not something I'll do often, but on ocassion, it's a fun, albeit LONG brew day! Very rewarding in the end!
You don't use this beer to drink as it is it's used to mix with a pint of heavy to make the pint of heavy stronger and taste like beer in Scotland when it was brewed stronger in say pick a year 1920 or 1950 a Glasgow pint was about 8 or 9%. So it isn't designed to drink as a full pint it's a mixer for a normal pint and when you do mix it with a pint of Export it's perfect.
Willing to try Olive Oil in place of oxygenation? Here is a Brulosophy article on the technique brulosophy.com/2020/01/27/impact-of-using-olive-oil-as-an-alternative-to-wort-aeration-exbeeriment-results/
Hi Martin I think that you have been living in USA a bit too long now and u already forgot a simple Health and safety rules 😜 Which in your case was simple CIP 🤔. Just kidding mate keep up a good work.
Please never use O2 (oxygen) that you can get from a hardware store! It isn't food safe and may contain oil residue. Every can I've purchased had that warning on the label. You can get food grade or medical grade O2 from any gas or welding supply shop. They can get you set up with tanks and regulators. Your old hardware store O2 tanks can be recycled as scrap steel. We take them to the hunting land and use them as targets before they go to the scrap metal dealer. Cheers!
If Lauren made a podcast about her life with a mad home brewer, I’d listen.

Fantastic series! Great inspiration for any homebrewer- much appreciated! Greetings from Denmark :)
Thank you!
A favourite style for me. Ages well over three+ years. The sweetness becomes rum and dark fruit complexity with age.

Yeah not seen this style much commercially either. Was a fun one to brew.

Picnic taps too?! 🤯
@@TheHomebrewChallenge lol yeah they unscrew below the handle... Might want to check it out.. 👍🍻
@@TheHomebrewChallenge Yep they unscrew, and the white rubber inside that makes the seal snaps off the top bit to clean under it.
Indeed it does.. fantastic!

Mason jars: staple of every Southern home!

Homer Simpson drool of approval - gaaaaaah! Wee heavyyyyy!
That's a lot of equipment .is there a bucket recipe
Tragically, i've reached the end of the playlist.
Haha, plenty more to come
By the way, some welding shops will fill your O2 tanks.
Omg whats going on no maris otter hehe
What would make you decide to do not not do a mash out
Did you not measure SG before boil? Unusual of you to miss planned OG by so much, though not surprising it was on a high gravity beer.
Great video, this is probably my favorite style, how long did you age this beer before you tried it?
The BJCP doesn't give any recipes only a description of the beer. Where do you get the recipes?
Can you point us towards the reddit post? Thank you and great videos
I think it is ale you are looking for.

16 weeks to go martin, just counting down........
A bit more than that I think... 40 something beers left on my list.

Does claw hammer deliver to India?
I'm pretty sure you have to contact Clawhammer for that. Or check their website
@@allfatherodin-officiallyun1107 I did check on website and wrote an email too but have not received any replies about the delivery
Are you using a 120 or 240 volt system?
240 volt
Yep 240. Love that I can get to mash and boil temps in a couple of mins.
One of my favourite styles. If you can age some to the 9 - 12 month mark, it really starts to shine.
