- Thanks to bluecongo & Winston for making this matrix, and The Fonz for providing the additional camera angle. Already five years ago!
4th August 1979, Stevenage, England.
The audio is a matrix, which means that the soundboard and audience sources have been combined, so you get the clarity of the sbd and the atmosphere and fullness of the audience source!
Please do not post links to my videos at the LZ.com forums as the moderators there work with Warner and will get the videos removed. AND RATS WILL EAT YOUR CROPS. Thank you.
And that's why they are the greatest rock band ever!
That galloping bass, WOW!
And this is prior to the existence of an Iron Maiden album.
@@cameron_fairchild who?
Pure perfection
Man Bonzo's drumming is just on another level here. The Whole Concert he is just great, he tears up that drum that night, especially on this song!
Wow!!!! My headphones are jammin like it's 1979!!!! Love.It.
Everyone thought Page had remastered this in the studio and I am so glad you posted this raw copy to prove how good this was on 8/4/79
sound slike it was cleaned up a bit and a bit of echo added but i cant tell the difference apart from that and its AWESOME
eatthisvr6 The reason you think there is an added each is because the soundboard wouldn't have the echo that the audience recording would have, this is mixed so you get soundboard quality along with the audience echo
All credit is due to bluecongo & Winston!
Yes, I heard from so called "experts" stating that they hear numerous dubs in the the other video. So much for those ASSTARDS!!!!
That was even a suggestion? Sure there is an overdub here and there, plus some audio clean up. The raw power of the performance is as it was performed that night.
I'm weird but I think this is my favorite Led Zepplin song out of all... Achilles Last Stand.
Same here and in the evening
Not weird at all, this have been one of my favorite songs of theirs since I was a teenager. Relentless.
john galt dough _capitalism is good! Jimmy Page agrees!
@@scoopsdujour relentless
Do you think you are some special Zep fan because thats your fv lz song???
On top of their game. A live masterpiece Jimmy!
My god John Paul has such a bright sound on this one. Refreshing.
You should check out his tone on the July 7, 1980 Berlin gig. Whole Lotta Love is an intense snarling piece of bass art. JPJ often takes the lead too, which is most fascinating.
@@zoso1980 Thank you. Ill check that out.
Just epic. From JPJ galloping base, to Plants now mature voice, haunting powerful still, to jimmy’s licks and stage presence…and the one who steals the show…John Henry Fucking Bonham! This group is timeless and has never been matched imo
Epic!! I wish they would play this more on the radio...such a underrated classic!!
Love me some Achilles Last Stand..and I really love how they named this track..
why is this so good .Because its the real deal. When you record music with many guitar parts in .No 1 it show just how much imagination this band and jimmy had in the studio,N02 It is good because jimmy has picked which parts out of the many on the track would work the best live .And even then he is improvising here searching for new things in his his solos. He is creating something new right in front of you .He is taking chances with his mind .Some he wins some he loses. It doesnt matter .If zep had carried on ,Some of these idea may have been a new track for later .pure genius
You said it right. It’s the real deal…
Bonzo killer fill at 7:20
Bonzo killer fills absolutely everywhere at all times :)
Like a human nuclear bomb. Wow he was the best.
That’s the one ☝️!
I've come here, 'cause they muted the one I've been listening to. Long live this copy!
This and Kashmir were the best moments from Knebworth. Since the official version of this song on DVD has a bunch of different angles they found during the restoration of the tapes I'm hoping they do a really solid Knebworth DVD with all remixed sound. Would be killer.
Achilles Last Stand for me is the best of Zep's epics. It has just the right balance of roll and thunder. The band is older, in control of the manic frenzy that can drive a song like this without it running away from them. Love this band. Love this live performance. Thanks for putting it up here for all of us to enjoy.
As a Led Zeppelin fan I must say this kicks ass!!! And as a drummer I confess that the mighty John Bonham inspired me to play the drums
Oh.My.God
This is perfect
Great song .... by the masters
ESTOY SIN HABLA..!!!!
ESTO NO TIENE NOMBRE..
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
That's one Heavy Dirigible, rigid airship inspiring. Found yours by random. My🦵🏽 heel aches.
Zeppelin raw .the driving bass and drums with Jim and rob. Just damn greatness
The best they ever were
brad gilker for sure!
No, that was around 73.
This is a different video edit than the one I usually watch like four times a week. This is great too, I love it
incredible
Water loss special, sweatin' to the oldies, re-upload!
Look at JP`s smile @1:51, he`s thinking to himself, ``thats why he`s the best``. nuff said.
At about 4:50, you can see where Jimmy knows this song is firing on all cylinders, and he starts having a ball playing this epic in front of his countrymen.
Yeah, at 4:50 he is in the zone.
Nothing can stop Jimmy. The Michael Jordan of junkies.
I love Jimmy's face towards the end of the solo like "holy shit we're on fire right now"
They were just starting to get enough great musical material to match Percy's obvious change of vocal range. Damn man, was born a decade to late. What a beast they may have been in the 1980s but they spared us the teased hair and spandex I reckon. RIP BONZO
They probably would've done like the Stones and done an break. Robert probably would've done a solo album or two and emulated Duran Duran a little. Jimmy would've have let Zeppelin go new wave. They would've shifted, but spandex, probably not.
master piece, my fav zep jam!
Epic. full on blitzkrieg from Bonham and Jones
Great version 🫶🏼🫶🏼
Listen to JPJ's tone. Damn that's sweet.
too bad the cameramen missed it on this classic. should be focused on 1 guy 90% of this song and maybe got 5% of him.
bonham?
Ethan Reed
Yep!
No, this band was four equal parts, that’s why they broke up when Bonzo died.
this is as raw as possible !!!
fuckin amazing !!!
epic!
Best day of my life....best song of my life.. !!!🔥🔥🔥
The live version is waaaaayyy better than the studio version , what a gem!
It is even better. Jimmy Page sounds like THREE GUITARS IN ONE!
The fascinating thing about this song performed live is if the band is having a bad night, this is the song it shows. It's such an intricate piece with so much nuance. If you aren't on your A game, easy to flub in it.
What??? Not even close! Its good, but the studio is WAAAAYYYY better.
@@dannyh8288 Spot on, no comparison even.
KKK kk😮 kk
John was practically ripping his strings from his guitar. Too bad it wasn't shown.
Ayyy we’ve actually got jpj in this video
For me,,,, Best zepp. Song of all Time. My #1 zepp. Tune.😎
I can’t believe that in general critics say the performance at Knebworth for Led Zeppelin was kind of Meh!
This Achilles Last Stand is so monster.
This whole concert is great! This is a thing of beauty all wrapped in one! Every song on this set list sounds like Led Zeppelin. And just think, they hadn’t played a rock concert in 2 years and they sound great hear. I recommend this whole concert to anyone!
FUCKING LOVE THIS TRACK
ITS JUST A NON STOP BALLS TO THE WALL RIDE THAT ONLY SPEEDS UP AND INTENSIFIES UNTILL THE HAMMER OF THE GODS CRUSHES YOU MERE MORTALS
Exactly it rips
Word...dropping the hammer...of the m-effin' Gods ! 🎸🤘🔥❤️
Pure ENERGY!!!
Most non talked about zeppelin song
This knebworth version plant says is the band at there musical best and why zep is no longer without bonzo
A masterpiece indeed
I was there
Pure class
Powerful, mysterious, majestic, epic, the essence of led zeppelin, love the way Jimmy ends it, so subtle, slips away into the ether, pure class
After some of the low points of their '77 shows, this is victory.
8:18 JPJ’s a fuckin’ robot! o-0
if only this were a little louder it would be the best version of this performance ..... years ago in 07 (on youtube )
there was one comparable to this .. 480 p makes the sound better .... all it needs is to be louder. You can't hear the intricate sounds without the volume up more (I have my volume on max and it still isnt loud )
Helllllzz yeah
EPIC
The bass guys line is galloping like a horse, almost like the Trooper !!
Iron maiden actually drew a lot of influence from this song
Iron maiden made a career out of this song while never coming close to it.
Wish they'd done this at the o2 show. Heard Plant vetoed it but I don't know if that's true or not.
Knebworth was good but the Copenhagen warm ups a couple weeks earlier was even better
Only see JPJ at the end 🙁
@EarlsCourt75ProShot Oh. Request: Have the bootleg Albert Hall film? Like the songs in the original form, unlike the DVD?
최고의 명곡.....그리운 분들..
The one and only Grand Wizard of bass guitar is missing from view the whole time. Listen him bro he's literally performing better than Jimmy page at this show.
💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💔💔💔
@Canadiarockmusic It's only in Heartbreaker, I should have put that in sorry.
Apart from the intro and the outro, Jimmy's playing isn't the best, to put it mildly.
Where is the extra angle?
BTW, where can I find the Bluecongo / Winston matrix over the video in DVD quality? thx
7:11
Around this time in 79 February 79 my lovely girlfriend broke up with me cuz I was a stupid idiot and I went out on her and I miss her so much
John Henry Bonham....laughable.
Bonham plays his ass off in this performance. Shame JPJ's bass tone is so crappy and weak, no wonder Jimmy couldn't quite relax and get into the groove,
relax? hes fucking loving it
Shut up, the recording is bad, not the JPJ's bass. Idiot.
Jpj sounds amazing, tf you smoking
The drums and vocals definitely sound better on the official release of this version. In the official version you dont hear the harmonizer on the vocals as much and the bottom snare mic is cranked up a bit more
Hefty Dirigible! That would be a great name for a Zeppelin tribute band!
How Dare These Dinosaurs get on stage and waste everyone's time! :)
The song is good, but the solo is terrible......to much drugs used.
Keith Richard said it could never be played live
Robert is a Queen 🦌🦌🦌😂😂😂
That was almost as good as being there! The energy is overwhelming! ❤️
7:18 Bonzo goes Crazy on those drums!
Bonham's rapid-fire style, the touch of sadness in Plant's voice and Page's searing, painful aggression. All bolted down by the bottom of JPJ's bass. Highlight song and a real showstopper. Page is melting the stage with flame-thrower licks!
Jimmy Page Does Some Good work in This Song 👍
Bonzo's power drumming is so fucking addictive
db75 onslaught from him and Jones
Dios mío
Nooooooooo Knebworth 8/4 where they played some key songs flawlessly. They smoothed some of Pages notes because he was cheating a bit to kept up the speed. He sounded sticky on some songs. He played his ass off. He was drenched in sweat. No moving no dancing they were all just locked in. Sick Again Achilles Kashmir nobody’s fault In the evening Ten Years gone wereplayed as good as they ever played. This concert is Led Zeppelin at its best during those songs.
