      My favorite is the video where he's supposed to be scouting Wiggins and Jabari Parker and instead he gets caught up talking about Kentucky running horns.

    One of your best interviews! People around this level are a lot more candid than players/coaches.

    When he mentioned horns you could see coach Nick's face just light up and be like " I knew it , it's what I've be telling them for years". Coach this by far the best person you've interviewed because they are willing and able to explain sets. If you could get this guy or another advanced scout to webcam in with you after one of your videos is up and have them share their thoughts that would be amazing, though understand that will be near impossible during the season as they watch a game pretty much every night

    Lets be glad that Coach is a professional cause if this was his first time he would be jumping up and down with a smile on his face after hearing Pat say HORNS.

      BBALLBREAKDOWN hey coach, i was wondering if maybe with these sorts of interviews you might also consider asking what the persons favourite play is and why? I think it would be quite interesting to see what they would have to say on that one

    Would have loved to hear him elaborate on his final point (some are sophisticated), basically hearing a scout's take on the best coaches in the league. Amazing stuff nonetheless. And I loved Coach Nick's reaction to the Horns mention, must be nice to get the things you put out there validated from NBA circles. Great offseason content thus far, thanks!

    Coach Nick is so happy when Scout Pat names the floppy and horns sets. Does Scout Pat just track the opponent's sets and plays or does he employ analytics as well on his trusty laptop? Does he sit in on the other side of the bench on Spurs games or does he scout 2 other teams (a non-Spurs game)?

  • @MisterPaulmd

    hey bballbreakdown.... i have a couple questions...... the international players now a days haven't been any good recently. in the past there were really good players like dirk, parker, manu, etc. but there arent very many young potential stars born overseas right now.... can you explain why? also, would you say the talent level was higher back in the 90s or in this modern era. in other words, who has the best players?

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W 10 років тому

      still depends on the player and their attitude. Some international players do a great job getting accustomed to the NBA level. Some regress after giving scouts so much promise and they become mainstays back in the Euro Leagues or what not.
      Hard to quantify the eras but clearly the 80's had their share of legends, which would sorta carry over to the 90's which a few of those guys are still active in the league in some form of way (Pierce, Garnett, Allen). Also since the era today success is built on teams who embrace X's and O's and fill key roles in the team rather than just sign X free agent because they have that talent.

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W 10 років тому

      ***** I think there are still shot blocking centers. There aren't many GREAT shot blocking centers. These young guys know all about running down weakside attempts or just swats that go out of bounds. But it was guys like Mourning and Mutombo and even to this day, guys like Tim Duncan who know how to properly contest shots and keep it in play so it actually turns into a score. And they can apply it even to bigs trying to get in and they can get clean swipes at them.

    • @MisterPaulmd
      @MisterPaulmd 10 років тому

      lets not forget that 3 second violations were not called back in the day..... so centers we're already there.... which makes it easier to tally up blocks because the defender is already in the paint... i dont necessarily agree with the shot blocking part.

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W 10 років тому

      ***** there is truth to that but you also have to know HOW to block properly. Get the timing right and keep the ball in play. We can pile on excuses, but the legends did it with sound fundamental play as well.
      There are 3 second violations in todays game but even some of the top guys with blocks aren't there in that elite level yet.

    I think Pat Zipfel could play a bad guy in a movie. Like in a small town setting, father figure, neighbor of some sorts. He's got that hidden mean/crazy look in his eyes. Not meant as an insult, just that he could be an actor.
