I sent you a couple more tutorials showing 2 different ways of finishing these for attaching to the mum. You need to cut off some of the excess ribbons. Leave 1-2. You can put them in the center of the braid (one vid shows this) or leave one ribbon (whichever one will be on the backside against the ribbon streamers) and cut off the other 3 after StApling or glueing. This is actually my preference now.
Thank you for posting the length. I didn't see it before, and just watching the video, I assumed that 4 yards would get me a mum-length braid. Boy, was I surprised! According to your calculations, it would take two 10-yard ribbons to make a 30" braid. 2 twelve yard ribbons to make 36".
I used 480" in., 40' ft, of 7/8 poly satin thinking It would give me a total of 36" box braid. Sadly it only made a 24" box braid. I'd like to say I have the fortitude to just do it again at the longer length, but I dont think I do🤣 Oh well. Maybe next time.
Oh no that stinks!! 24” is the longest of these braids I’ve made. Girls around here don’t wear them very long usually. The last time I made one I used my calculations and it turned out. I’m so sorry it wasn’t enough! Maybe you can add to it, staple /glue them together or something. Seems like I did that before with some small ones. Honestly can’t remember how it turned out though.
This brought back child hood memories of making key chains. Never thought of trying this for mums. Thanks!!!
Thank you so much easy with your tutorial.
You are welcome!
Thank you for this! It was great to refresh my memory!
You’re so welcome!
How would you finish this off so that it hangs right without having tacky "suspenders" Ribbon above it?

Eve Butterly it does take a lot of ribbons!! I’ve never made one that long. My customers are hip or thigh length people. Thanks
Hyla, how long of a braid does 4 yds yield?
that's right at the top of the description

Could you use a 5/8 ribbon?
Marissa Perez yes you can. The box braid will be smaller (skinny) and it’ll take longer to get the length you want.
