Great Video! 5020 still my favorite tractor of all time! Things just got to be so expensive, but hope you go back original and have a bad ass 5020 in the end.
It is your tractor so do as you wish. With that being said, the "old iron" is getting harder to find these days. Even if it took a few years, I personally would put it back to original, minus the turbo. I've seen those aftermarket turbos kill a lot of engines in my 61 years on this planet. Thanks for the video.
Love seeing the 5020 in the shop, l know you'll fix it right and of course put in a new clutch while it's apart. You'll put it to work when you are all done. That will be soon enough for me to see it work. However it works out will be fine. Love the content.
It is you iron, fix it when or if you want. Negative comments from someone with no skin in it means WHAT!? Part of why I watch you is the nice decent considered guy you come accross as...please keep that up.
Fix it right and you have a tractor to use for years. Your not the kind of person to tear up a piece of equipment just for one day and that's what I like about you and your channel!
the cost of re-building is not cheep! especially with full sized john deere tractors. yes you have to remember it is a hobby, when it gets done, it gets done. do not press your luck, do the job right, do not piecemeal it because you will have other major failures that could destroy the tractor, and you will be at a complete loss. nothing worse then a “John Deere paperweight “ take care, be safe and stay healthy! barry
Brandon -- I think you are doing the right thing by waiting til you have time to do the job right. A neat little historical story for you is that way back in about 1967 or so my Dad took me and we went to the John Deere Dealer in Moulton, Iowa where Dad bought his equipment. I was about 9 years old then. They had a brand new 5020 sitting on the lot there and I got to climb up on it and sit in the seat while Dad and the dealership owner talked on the ground nearby. Dad did not buy the 5020 though. We had a 4020 already and instead he bought another 4020 in 1968 which gave us two of them then. We farmed almost 1000 acres with those two 4020's, and that was a lot back in those days.
Excellent video Brandon :) also you save the tractor and takes time agree to that! But glad found motor needs big rebuilt job and other stuff come first always! But when start working full-time be watching on rebuilt too and always excellent videos you put up too!

Aftermarket turbos on nonturbo tractors caused death of lots of tractors. People didn't let them warm up and cool down was hard on them plus getting them too hot working them. Or so the old tractor mechanics told me.
Looking forward to seeing a video of your feed grinder at work with all the "bells and whistles" Brandon! No one will be mad at you for using sound judgement. If you can't do the job the right way at this time - put her back out to rest for a while longer. Make some videos of the jobs your on now. I'd be real interested in the river job. Thanks!
I would guess antifreeze is what tore up your bearings pitting on bearings probably from heat then antifreeze on them. I agree put it on back burner till you get time to fix it right I wouldn't patch it being everything is still standard
5020 was already beefed up with his turbo kit, why not join the 5020 and 850 ? Of course this will ruffle the feathers of a few but it will steal the attention at the plow day! Sometimes you have to think out of the box . Lv the variety of video’s
Oil pump may still be worn out. I rebuilt our farms 5020 and luckily we put a real oil pressure gauge on it, started up all was well after engine warmed up started losing oil pressure turns out the pump gears had to much clearance, found out it is a common problem with the 5020 a nightmare to find a new one. But your antifreeze caused your problem I think it's worth saving old iron is getting more expensive all the time
Looks like a decent old 5020, like most of them, they are a 50+ year old tractor that has been used for years. I agreed with taking your time and doing it the correct way. Unless the 4wd deere with transmission problems has the 619 engine, then you might be able to swap that into the 5020 for plow days. At the end of the day it’s your tractor and your money. Do what you want. I appreciate the videos.
Complete rebuild would be the best thing for that and not have to worry about it again. Get the ole Unstyled A out for plow day! 😁 I would like to go to ConExpo but that is a heck of a drive. Where I work will have several cranes there. I assemble and work on Broderson cranes at work.
If it was me I would park it for now and then when I had the time fix the old girl up the way it should be done then she like new again and that would make for some nice video content and plus it would be nice to see another older model tractor saved for the junk pile and when it's all said and done at the end of the day it is your call look forward to more videos and hopefully the old girl will be back for a overhaul
Bummer, I was hoping it wasn’t that bad. Well you got to do what is right. Better to save it and do the repair the right was instead of risking the entire tractor. Next year here we come.
Hello neighbor, the landlord had a couple John Deere‘s one was the 4020 I believe the other one was a 4620 with the cab. But a year ago hydraulics went out. Took them six months and Castonia‘s in DeMotte to figure Out the problem. At least it wasn’t worse. It could’ve been.
I think it's the Wise Decision. Set it to the side for now and make the proper repairs so it can live a long healthy life. M&W Turbo is kinda cool but you don't need the added horsepower (and added headache), you've got high horsepower tractors already. Put it back to original and let it live. 👍🚜😉🇺🇲👋
Gotta do what is right for you. It's a good tractor and well worth fixing. What it doesn't have is a lot of electronics and DEF. If it sets for a few years, it wouldn't end the world.
Well heres what I would do anyway. You know 10k turns into 15k.... I would put that towards something you could use a little more to farm. I know these are neat old tractors back in the day. To each his own though. Either way you decide I'll still hang out. Lol
I think you're absolutely right...why do a band aid fix just to get it going and threaten the overall functionality in the process. You're right, you're looking at a massive overhaul job, but being a 5020, worth it.
I would rather have you save the tractor an do it right. Just makes sense not to tear it up. I feel bad for you, cause I know you would love to bring it out. Thanks for the heads up on plowday.
Hey Brando. I’ll give you my .02 cents worth. I say preserve the tractor. Put it to the side. Check it out for what all it would take to fix up, get the pieces and fix it up. Even if it’s next winter it’ll be a wonderful video series. You have some other great choices for plow day. Look at it like this, being busy this winter helps with money to spend on the hobby, not to mention upgrading on the excavating side with the Hyundai and D8. The other option is drop a 2 cycle Detroit in the 5020 since you have those engine manuals now. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Those engines aren’t going to be made ever again. Parts are expensive for that engine also. You could part it out and make some $ or set it aside and work on it when you can. Good luck with your decision, it would be tough for me if it I didnt need it daily. Thats some serious $ to make right.
whats the date on the bearings they may be originals .my 4020 when i bought it with a bad motor had the original main bearings and had 1974 rod bearings
Do what you want. I'd part it out. There is nothing special about them, and a person is money and time ahead to get a machine that doesn't need that much work.
The thing is you may put $10,000 to $20,000 in it you will have something you know what you have and what would it cost for a new tractor that is equal
You want a job working on my 730 diesel? It's pumping oil from the hydraulics to the crankcase, I think it needs split and I'm to crippled up to do it anymore. I can't find anyone to do it... LOL
RESTORE ! You can have a "NEW" 5020 . Bearing damage most likely caused buy using the CHEAP oil and low oil pressure . This 5020 has gone past the hours of recommended rebuild specs . What is it worth? Fully restored gets 25000 to 30000 grand . having one is priceless.
Although $10k or more is a lot of money to repair this tractor, a new tractor would have all the electronics that you can't fix and would cost $100k or more. Once the engine, injector pump and transmission are rebuilt this tractor might still outlast a new one
You really need to start a second channel called “Dirt, Grain, Steel & Wilson” just for your shop videos. He’s such a ham 🤣 Speaking of ham, have you considered doing a pot luck at Plow Day? Just a thought

I love the tractor, but by the time you over haul the engine and fix everything else you mentioned, I dont think its gonna make since money wise to fix it.
Please don't trash that engine. That tractor is worth fixing right. As far as the money I just sank 6000.00 in the engine of my 2020 and it is a four cylinder. If it were mine I would bite the bullet and fix it then you know what you have. Mine started as an in frame and turned into an out of tractor total rebuild of the whole engine. Injector pump new injectors head completely redone clutch everything. For the money I spent no way could you replace that tractor with a new one or even a good used one. When you have time fix it right. If you love that old iron as much as I think you do or seem to anyway then fix it. You won't be sorry...
Definitely a tractor worth saving. Hope to watch you save it the future. God bless.
Thanks for the update Brandon sorry about your bad luck with the 5020 you made the right decision on the tractor 👍
Run your own race - if you want to fix it, fit it - if not, that is your call. Keep up the good work

Love how Wilson is always around to supervise
Good to see your on the 5020, been wondering about it but not wanting to bug you about it seeing how busy you are. Enjoy your video's
With not knowing the tractors history and getting it running, work some ground. Then find issues with it. It is what it is. Thanks for the video!

I would rather have you save the tractor an do it right. Just makes sense not to tear it up. I feel bad for you, cause I know you would love to bring it out. Thanks for the heads up on plowday.
Well you can't win them all. If it doesn't make it to plow day then it doesn't make it
why was the M&W turbo kits the demise for these tractors?
RePower!!! With Big Cam Cummins Kinze repower kit???
