I had a 23 Africa Twin, and the throttle was terrible on it. The twistgrip was loose side to side on the bars and the bike was anything but smooth. I approached the dealer and they were very unhelpful. I fitted a plastic washer between the bar end and the twistgrip, and it transformed the bike. Just gave the twistgrip a little bit of friction, but not enough resistance to stop the throttle from returning by itself. Amazing the difference a plastic washer made. Rob
thanks. the experience from a tall person is priceless. I wish the bike had a shaft drive - the chain adjustment and lubrication is such a hassle (and all the grease dirt all over the bike)
Just bought one the same NT1100 DCT blade at Stratford on Avon I will get it in May , your right it’s all about compromisers , I looked at so many from the Ninja 1000 to the triumphs and even a bmw , but there’s something I like about this bike it’s got character it might not have the curb appeal etc and it’s perfect for me and the mrs for touring. Great video loved it
@@Willsey trust me the only reason I bought the NT was because of the DCT.....there are far more engagingly 1100cc bike to chose from...I love it! Thanks for watching
Had my NT 1100 manual since last Autumn it’s better then the DCT Africa Twin 2018 model as a road bike but I like both bikes in equal measure DCT is excellent but personally I prefer Manual a fair review based on my personal experience
I don’t own a NT1100 (I ride a Kawasaki GTR 1400) but I love watching reviews of other types & models. I like your no nonsense & honest reviews Lofty I would definitely consider one once my GTR gets too heavy for me. Ride safe
Saw this in Bridge (my local since Damerells Mutley shut) when it first came out, and was going to trade in my DCT Crosstourer....saw it had chain drive....turned round and walked out....not the Pan replacement promised by Honda reps at the NEC show the year before....so I'll stick to weight lifting with the CTX until Honda sees sense (or it falls on me in the garage)🍻🏍️💨💨💨
Thought about this to replace my NT700. Didn't really fit what I actually use the bike for, so moved on and got a Tracer 7. One plus point was the distinct lack of gizmos and buttons!
Regarding the throttle, I don't think a stronger return spring would be the cure. The slight snatchiness is mainly a result of the very lean fuelling necessary to meet Euro5 emissions (look up "open loop, closed loop fuelling") It may be possible to overcome this by the use of a Booster Plug" which I believe is really just an online resistor. I found reducing the engine braking did seem to help.
Great follow up video. I test rode the NT1100 at Damerells and knew nothing of the throttle issues on forums, but really noticed it on test ride, compared to my trusty DCT NT. It really put me off the bike. The sales guy was thoroughly nice but said no one else had told him about this, and he even test rode the bike to check it! (he said he couldn’t notice it). Great to see it documented so clearly in your review. I wanted to like the bike and was disappointed- my riding style must have really highlighted the slow speed lurchyness !
You are welcome....the throttle issue has more or less dissapeared since the recall and reflash of the ECU....It's not unusual for new model bike to need tweeking. This style of engine is not for everyone. I personally love it! If I were you I would takt the Tracer 9 a spin?
You did a test ride on the Forza 750dct and I bought it. Now I've traded in the motorcycle for the NT1100 DCT. I'm taking delivery on the 1st June 24. Íts just going to niggle me after all the years on brakes on both hands. I have to balance the rear brake with my foot. It's just been a long time.
Thank you Lofty Biker for a very entertaining review!! I myself have a lovely Royal Enfield Stellar Red 350cc..abit different from the bike you were riding, but enjoyed all the same.. It's great to know and learn about different bikes and how each ticks!! Thank you again! 🏍️😁😁
Ive had a nt1100 for neary a year now. Nice bike two significant issues. 1. Dct at very low speeds. Manoeuvres can be tricky 2. Low throttle hunting. 30mph in built up areas is not good.
Hello Lofty really enjoyed your video. I have just bought the dct model. What do you think the best settings are for the dct. Also what settings or clicks have you set your suspension.
Hey. Also a tall rider here. Same height. Struggling to find a comfy riding position on the bikes I have tried. Any mods you have made or does this bike fit a 6ft 5 rider. Thought it may be to small. Doing a test ride next week.
I am riding also the NT 1100 model 2022 act and I agree with most of your points. I also love the bike and I am enjoying every ride. I do like your videos and wondering where you come from in the UK. I am from Germany near Düsseldorf area. Have you also added additional such a s front and rear fenders or something else? Best regards from a friend in Germany.
Very detailed review. I rode this bike and I have to say that I found the throttle to be normal/usual. I liked this bike a lot. As you tried also the Africa, which one is faster? Is it just the same? I am interested in the manual one. It is a nice package I believe. Drop by man, you may like it. Just subscribed to your channel. Keep up mate.
To be honest, I find once on there is very little difference between the NT and AT. The engine is identical. The Africa Twin adventure sports has the 6 Axis IMU and Electronic suspension, but costs conciderably more.
Hi Lofty great video thank you. I’m 6 4 long in the legs and currently on the CRF1100 ATAS and was thinking about a swap to the NT1100. I have the AT on it’s highest seat setting and am worried I might be more cramped on the lower NT. You’re obviously even taller than me and I’m assuming long in the legs too - have you found it ok for legroom? Thanks
@@theloftybiker3090 thank you, I never go off road and never will so sounds better for me than my CRF, shame they don’t do it in some of the same colours of the CRF albeit it might look a bit odd in the red, white and blue of my CRF!

I'd argue with the screen. Mine needs both hands and a lot of force . So much force that I have only ever moved it twice as i am scared it'll break. Its in a right position now. I am not moving it again, ever.
