Detached my tricep from my elbow. Likely partially torn lifting weights but did it completely in a roll. 5 weeks post surgery and a long road back. Great channel! I can’t do BJJ right now so your channel is a great supplement.
I would call it a modified tani otoshi as well. I'm sure there's a very obscure Japanese term for that specific throw that I won't come across until I have to do it on a test years from now.
I'm a one stripe white belt and honestly this channel has made my game so much better. I still don't know much but being able to get just 1 move from each video has sped up my BJJ education tremendously. Keep it up!
It's 11pm in gods country, Yorkshire, Leeds, England! 🇬🇧 And whats better to watch than this. Great insight to how you flow through different techniques! It scrambles my brain but great to watch!
This video is jam-PACKED with great info, insights, and action! This guy was really good and it was really fun to see a different part of your game (stand up/takedowns and great grip fights). Thanks Jordan! 👊
I think the name for your throw at the 7:00 mark would be Tani Otoshi (valley drop). I’m still new to Judo though. Happy to be corrected by anyone who reads this.
I started earlier - shortly before 27 (although that's still late by competitive standards of course), but an inspiration for me was a 60 years old brown belt at my first club. I wouldn't have guessed he was that age, but I learned it.. And he was doing pretty well, picking guys two or three times younger apart. Now I'm 41, I've been around the block, had my share of injuries and setbacks, but I definitely intend to keep rolling when I'm in my 60s and beyond
This is the best bjj channel on UA-cam by far. You give great commentary for practical active rolls and it's really a blessing for all of us learning the art. I've learned to use my T-rex arms when I'm in bottom side control (which is a lot). Thank you 🙏
You are the first UA-camr I ever see that makes the sponsor appealing. I've never seen anyone else actually demonstrate a real example of what they learned in Skill Share. Big ups for that!
Really appreciated that you paused for a sec to breakdown headquarters. It was helpful to be able to take a second to absorb it without the roll moving on too quickly. Would definitely like to see that more! Great stuff as always 🤌
I find when I'm injured it gives me an opportunity to roll in ways I normally wouldn't and it helps my game overall. I love to play guard but right now I have a broken toe so I have to do everything in my power to get and stay on top. I really appreciate your videos! I can hear your voice in my head when rolling saying "don't give underhooks" when I mess up haha love all the extra effort you are putting into videos, quality stuff! OSSSSSSS
I appreciate it!! Thank you. You're the man! I do MUCH better dealing with trolls than I used to. I 99.9% don't care what they say now. I just gotta work on that last .1 haha
Pretty sure I commented on one of your earlier videos of this year that you’d reach 100k subs by end of this year. You were at around 35k back then I believe. Looks like we’re on track prof! Great content, always.
Really liked the pause and positional breakdown with the overlaid text/labeling. I bet it’s a pain in editing but it’s really informative. Thanks Jordan.
Great video! I love it when people start standing. Tani otoshi, valley drop, is a great counter to hip throws. It’s pretty similar to what you did when you dropped him over your knee. In tani otoshi you straighten your back leg though instead of keeping it bent.
Very nice addition of throw defense in this video! Injuries.... lol well I started a year ago and since then have had cauliflower ear, bursitis, partially tore my mcl, spained pinkie toe, almost broke big toe and more mat rash than I care to say lol. Un-injured at the moment oddly enough
I started doing jiu jitzu and I love it life has been rough and one of the only things I look forward to is going to train I use to wrestle and it feels so good to do jiu jitzu and it let’s me get away from life jiu jitzu is amazing and anyone out there struggling in jiu jitzu or life just remember “Tough times don’t last tough people do”
The sacrifice throw at 6:55 is Tani otoshi, usually used as a counter to Seoi Nage. Very effective if the opponent isn't adequately pulling to create kuzushi.
@JordanTeachesJiujitsu Definitely selling yourself short. The wrestling background definitely helps with maintaining your center of gravity. Keep the videos coming Brother!
I do body locks on Judokas as well, and I find if i have the lock and drop my weight down to their knees, the lock turns into a rugby tackle and it off balances their momentum and I avoid being thrown.
It's stuff like this I'm glad I had some wrestling experience from highschool before I started judo. The sprawl reaction has saved me more than once in some bjj stand ups. They weren't beautiful sprawls, but they did the job.
Great roll! I am currently rolling injured. I was pulled backwards from my turtle into an RNC, my knee immediately shot with pain. Took a few weeks off and it hasn't been the same. Still training.
Love using that behind the back arm pass when I can! 🔥👊🏽💯. I actually learned that watching Dean Lister 👊🏽. I pulled my rib rolling a week before my fight. Felt every deep breath during the fight😣was a little worried but still managed to pull off a rear naked choke in the first. Awesome video thanks for sharing your valuable information. 💯👊🏽 recover strong and stay blessed my friend 🙏🏽🔥
Thanks Jordan. I think what you highlighted here is how important transitions are. There is a small window between the off balancing and landing of your opponent to obtain a dominant position on the ground. Learnt a lot from this.
Hi Jordan, great video! I really like the way how you pause important situations and describe the techniques. And yes, I am injured, got partial rupture of the musculus biceps femoris, actually happened during fotball. It's pity, missing bjj so much!
Bro, you are certainly teaching us jiujitsu. I cannot thank you enough. I'm injured right now. See the doctor on Tuesday to find out whats wrong with my right knee and ankle. Didnt tap soon enough from an ankle lock. Great video Jordan.
You can both help me get more sponsors, and help yourself learn cool things by signing up for a trial of Skillshare! 🙂 The first 1,000 people to use the link or my code jordanteachesjiujitsu will get a 1 month free trial of Skillshare: skl.sh/jordanteachesjiujitsu05221
Currently injured. Sprained MCL. 4 weeks in and getting much better. Wish I could say it was from training, truth is I fell into a drained pool at work…….
Great stuff seeing you with a judo guy. Nice to see the takedowns used. Sweet set up to get the reverse triangle at 6.27. Out of training at the moment with hip pain but at least I watch and enjoy these videos 🤙
The move where you trap his arm behind his back to pass the closed guard was sick. If there’s not already a name for it, I‘d call it the Slot machine 😂 cause he’s left with only one arm. The injury sucks tho. I‘ve been injured actually 3 weeks after I started with BJJ. One of the more experienced guys I was rolling with switched on his competition mode and didn’t care so much about my safety.. almost broke me a couple rips with a brutal knee on belly. Took me 4-5 weeks to recover, but I‘m back on the mat 🙏🏻 Your videos are helping a lot Jordan, please keep them coming 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Just has ACL surgery last summer. NOW I find out today I need rotator cuff surgery for a massive tear (muscle insertion torn off the bone). As with the acl tear, I’ve been training injured and didn’t realize it. I’m so bummed that I have to have surgery again….:/ 4-6 weeks in a sling, 4-6 months recovery. I HATE missing training jiu jitsu. I’m not sure I can handle it again!!! 😡 Thanks for sharing this vid and knowledge as always!
Smooth rolling back take, and some cool triangles. Also i like the advice about americana vrs far side arm bar. Lots of good content in this one, thank you!
When preparing arm bar and they try to go to their knees, going for Tarikoplata is so cool. I love it because it's usually unexpected, and it solves the problem of braking the grip and bringing the arm behind the back for kimura. Give us some newer, exotic techniques like that, you will make more mistakes and it would give us insight in your learning curve. Nice little tip there at the end: if you're on top side control, arm in your face for Americana, arm behind your head for arm bar. Good stuff! Thanks for making these vids
Top tier content as always! The pace of information is perfect. Hope you do a video starting in terrible, smashed positions against a bigger guy, then recovering. Sometimes it feels like I have no options in those spots, but I know that's not the case.
Nice commentary. I'm injured too with a torn LCL. Got my half-guard passed but tried to hang on with 1 leg at an angle that strained my ligament and then I heard a POP! It's funny because just moments before it happened I thought to myself "this is a lot of tension on my knee. Maybe I should just let him pass".
I can't count how many times I've torn ligaments in my knees. Fortunately these were never complete tears, only like the 2nd degree (meaning partial tears and hence no need for a surgery, just some rehab). However I still ended up having my meniscus stitched at one point. Knees are arguably the most "injurable" body part in BJJ, which is a pity, because they tend to be difficult to heal. (A knee is a very complex mechanism, and some parts, like the meniscus, don't regenerate at all, or barely. And it is also hard to give up on using your knees during time off). My advice is to spare no expense nor time for proper physiotherapy. It pays off in the long run.
I got compartment syndrome so I got surgery on both legs...I have been watching your videos as well as a lot of BJJ content since my operation, once I can drive I will go to class and at least sit and learn til I'm strong enough to get back out there!!
I tore my hammy recently so I've been doing a lot of seated guard. Much to my surprise counter wrestling doesn't hurt, but open guards like spider and de la riva do.
Just had surgery on my right ring finger. It was a spiral fracture. Broke it during sparring while doing a bow and arrow choke. Not sure how it happened. When I threw my leg over my training partner's shoulder I heard the snap on my choking hand. My partner tapped right when I heard the pop, and when I looked at my finger it was crooked. I was promoted to blue belt a number of months ago. Pretty bummed about this injury. But I get lots of time to watch your videos which is a plus.
even more good stuff Jordan, thank you so much for this. My standup game (lack there of) recently got me a torn patellar tendon which has left me on the sidelines and itching to get back. Thanks for throwing this in because the basic concepts will be helpful in the future.
Great video 🔥🙌🏻
Thanks bro 🙏👊
When are we going to see a collab Video with U two?
@@PYROMARU that would be so cool! 😃
@@WilliamTackettBJJ one day we have to make it happen 🙂
like to see this no gi - combat JJ with judo throws and sweeps and a bit of wrestling would cover grappling
I’m pretty sure you’re the best BJJ instructor on UA-cam. Everything is so clear without making things overly complicated
I appreciate that so much! Means a lot to me 🙏
I second that
Forget youtube, this skill is reeeeeal. Nice work Jordan.
Strongly agree
100% agree
7:12 that pass where you staple his hand under him is sickkk
Tani otoshi is the sacrifice throw you used at 6:55 - Beautiful video! Thanks Jordan
That guard pass at 7:05 was awesome
7:12 That closed guard pass was elite. Can’t wait to try it.
That escape in the closed guard is a thing of beauty (amongst everything else in the video), surely going to give it a try tonight!
I really love how you pause the roll and annotate the situation. Quality teaching
Could you do this for all of your white/blue belt breakdowns please?
Detached my tricep from my elbow. Likely partially torn lifting weights but did it completely in a roll. 5 weeks post surgery and a long road back. Great channel! I can’t do BJJ right now so your channel is a great supplement.
The channel is doing great brother! I have a Judo brown belt from San Jose State who just got his bjj purple from me. Always a great roll🤙
“You won’t see any guard pulling” with a hint laugh. Thanks bro cause that can be awkward sometimes
@7:12 that is the hammerlock pass. I use that a lot. Keep that arm after you pass and make them work to get it back, cooking that arm.
Thanks so much professor. I did a year or so of Judi as a kid and it's amazing how much it seems to help on takedown.
Another excellent video.
That chair sit back take is a gem, and that throw at 6:53 looked like a Tani Otoshi
I would call it a modified tani otoshi as well. I'm sure there's a very obscure Japanese term for that specific throw that I won't come across until I have to do it on a test years from now.
This is the best BJJ commentary channel on UA-cam.
I'm a one stripe white belt and honestly this channel has made my game so much better. I still don't know much but being able to get just 1 move from each video has sped up my BJJ education tremendously. Keep it up!

Respect to Steve. He would probably throw and submit most of us watching.

I would also call it a tani otoshi, a modified version of it.
Great stuff… I just started bjj about 11mos ago, at 49, and i TRY to implement some of your movements, either way that goes, I enjoy your content.

That twister as the first submission of the video makes it your best video by far. One of my favorite moves and have always wanted to secure one.
Had to start it out witha bang. Such a cool sub!

Get better bro...this can be a good thing as it forces you to create and adapt another aspect of your game you would have overlooked otherwise
Dude this is such a help. We all make these mistakes all the time during our rolls.
Awesome content. I love seeing how you go up against guys with different specializations and how you handle the situations that come up. 👊
Thanks so much man for the content. Don’t waste any of your mental capacity addressing trolling comments in your videos.

Great video Jordan. I think I’ve got a tear in my ucl, loud pop when getting americana’d in one of my first sessions. Should have tapped earlier!

Started rolling at the beginning of the year. Currently sidelined with a labrum strain in my shoulder. Can’t wait to get back

Also, you will end up with bunch of new stuff in your game that you might like :)
Never heard of the Tarikoplata, so I had to go look it up. Very cool. Will need to try it out some time.
Fantastic breakdown
The chain from the gift warp was smoooth.
Nice little tip there at the end: if you're on top side control, arm in your face for Americana, arm behind your head for arm bar. Good stuff! Thanks for making these vids
Cool stuff. Those feet to floor exchanges were interesting. Thanks both of you!
Good stuff, very inspiring - the slow down & commentary of the video really helps, absorb all the techniques in 👏👏👏. Keep up the good work.
