I worked as a nurse for 22 years in an ICU. Nursing school was by far the hardest thing I ever did in my life! It was brutal! I had some really great instructors and some really lousy ones who were so freaky critical on everyone. School was harder than work. The amount of material they want you to learn in a short amount of time is staggering. You can do it , but I had no life for 4 years. If you in an accelerated program, then the time will go really fast. My best advice is to start studying the first day for class. Review your notes daily, be prepared for clinicals. You're going to make mistakes and that's ok, just tell your instructor. Support each other in clinical and be a team member. When you're done with your work, help your classmates who are behind. Show up early. Get sleep. No all nighters, you'll won't be able to keep it together. The clinical instructors will know and question you. Be humble. Don't criticize other nurses or student nurses. Keep a low profile. Once you're an RN, then I'll have other advice for you. Remember, you are a nurse, not an MD...they have so much more schooling than most nurses do. Good luck!
You probably dont give a shit but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can watch all the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Been watching with my gf for the last couple of months :)
I graduated in 2018, passed my NCTRC exam fall of 2018, and am now started an ASBN program too! So fellow RT turning RN here too! So happy I found your page!
I know nothing about nursing and have no desire to go to nursing school... but man I like school supplies, and this was really interesting! Hope you have a good start to school!!!!
Good luck! I just graduated from an ABSN program. My advice....learn to use your planner. In the end, the best things I used was my Mac and I saved all my notes on a flash drive. Get a good set of pens for clinical. Remember, you can do anything for 16 months. Ours was 15 months. Extremely rigorous but very doable if you stay on top of your stuff. It’s a wild, but rewarding journey.
Good luck with everything! I’m in the last semester of my 2-year accelerated program, and the one thing I would say is to get one of the nclex prep books (the Sauder’s one is really good) toward the beginning of your program. You can flip through and use the test questions for whatever subject your studying and it really helps you learn how to answer the types of questions that will be on your quizzes and exams! :)
Thank you so much for the advice! Our school actually included Kaplan NCLEX books and exams for us to take during and after the program. I might look for some more though! Thanks for the great suggestion!
The Crocs shoes are great! I haven’t had any problems with my feet hurting since I started wearing them 😊 Great haul! Looking forward to following you on your journey to becoming a nurse!
Happy your following your passion! Nursing is an amazing career and you have so many options to explore. By the way love the color of your scrubs are ideal bc mine were white! Lol -Christina

This was really helpful and fun to watch! I'm about to enter university as a nursing major and we start clinicals sophomore year. They gave us a bunch of stuff we needed as nursing students and it felt a little overwhelming since I didn't really know what kinds of things to get so this was really nice to watch. :)
