    This is the most helpful video for Looping on Reaper. A huge thank you to you. I was so frustrated because I found a way to use the sustain pedal but I had to use the Midi keyboard instead of LPD8, you saved from a disappointing moment, the video was so detailed and well explained that now not only get the set up right but I understand it! I wish you the best and thank you again.

    You can actually control all the actions (including the Kill event) with MIDI notes by just assigning a note value to the pad by right-clicking on the OFF label and dragging to whatever value you want. I repurposed a an old GR-1 guitar synth/pedal board and made it into a MIDI controller using a $5 USB Arduino clone off eBay (Pro Micro ATmega32U4) and programmed the values for the Super8. Works great, thanks for the vid!

    Super helpful. Wouldn't have figured out the set up without this tutorial. I am facing an issue setting up multiple midi patches. I mean, I want to use the same midi keyboard but run it through different tracks that have different instruments - for ex a piano patch in one and a strings patch in another one. How do I play without triggering both at the same time?
    In the audio loops, I can connect the same guitar to multiple loop pads and have different patches from guitar rig on each, but I am not able to do this for midi. Kindly help.

    Many thanks for this! Was very helpful. One note, just in case it's not already covered in the comments somewhere:
    Super 8 has been updated to add an extra yellow button (play/rec selected). If you map a foot switch to that button, it will, record, play, stop, erase whichever looper slot you have selected. If you want to use just one foot switch to control recording, etc., I'm pretty sure this new button obviates the need for Bert's midi controller plug-in. At least it did for me.
    One thing I did notice, though, is that it seems like Super 8 can only receive midi on channel 1. I had a conflict with a touch OSC controller I made, so I was hoping to send Super 8 midi on a different channel. The solution I came to was to insert the JS Midi/Transpose plugin before Super 8 and then forward messages from channel 2 to channel 1 on that track.
    Does anybody know if there's a way to change Super 8 in the code to receive midi on a different channel?

    • @SouthAtlanticMusic
      @SouthAtlanticMusic 10 місяців тому

      Do you know if the new button can somehow support overdubbing? rather then cycle through rec/play/stop. I don't want the loop to stop before I get to record again, if that makes sense.

      It's been a while since I played with this. I can't remember. I suspect that's possible, but I couldn't tell you how to make it wor off the top of my head. There's another video on UA-cam of Justin, the developer of Reaper, playing with Super 8. That adds some additional context, which may make this video more understandable. That's where I learned about the extra button. @@SouthAtlanticMusic

    The idea and the tool you share is nice, I have not yet succeded, though. I am trying to configure the plugin with my Akai MPKmini with sustain pedal connected. So in my setup I have a single MIDI controller that provides both the 8 pads and the foot pedal. I have followed your instructions and all went well with the pedal setup. Then I configured the pads and knobs in the controller and, after setting 'External midi controller?" to "Yes" the pedal stopped working. Moreover only pads 5 till 8 propagate to the Super8 plugin. Does your plugin allow using a single controller with pads, knobs and the pedal?

    • @BertBouwhuis-BB

      Yes, I think it should support a single controller. Don't know where it goes wrong in your case. The only help I can give is to refer you to the "Troubleshooting" section starting at 35:09. Hope you'll be able to solve it!

    • @BertBouwhuis-BB

      Sure Leemore, if you select a "foot switch" in the plugin instead of a "foot pedal" and assign the correct midi note for the switch it should do the trick (see video starting at 9:16).

    • @BertBouwhuis-BB
      @BertBouwhuis-BB  5 років тому

      Hi Vincent, yes I made another one with fade in and fade out support. First of all, the volume and pan makes it somewhat easier to attach control knobs to the effect (such as explained by Kenny here: ua-cam.com/video/6aV_Xh_vS_Q/v-deo.html). The fade in and out settings operate whenever you re-start or stop playout of a looper slot. For the rest, both effects are the same. Hope this helps.

      @@BertBouwhuis-BB Thanks, Bert. But I did not found any explaining for this in any video or tutorial, but if you right-click in any module controls, like rev, rec, ply and sel, it will cycle through OFF, Midi note number, CC number and PC number. Off is not receiveing anything, midi number is refered to the number of the key that will make the command, CC number is the number of the controller (like sustain pedal 64) that will do the command and finally "PC" number. I don´t know what is this "PC" option... Is for a QWERTY keyboard option ? Thanks.

    Hi Bert, thanks for this tutorial.
    I have a tiny issue with my foot pedal maybe you can help me with that ?
    I use a marshall footswitch to trigger the loop, it works with your settings but I have to press it two times to record and two times again to start the playback. Do you know how I can solve that so I just need to hit it once ? Thanks :)

    • @BertBouwhuis-BB
      @BertBouwhuis-BB  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Anno, it's probably related to the "switch versus pedal" discussion, as also explained starting at 8:34. For a switch, the plugin expects a midi note "on" when pressed once and a note "off" when pressed again. For a pedal, the plugin expects a certain midi cc value when pressed down and a reset of that value when released. I assume the marshall is a footswitch sending midi notes. In that case it must behave like a toggle switch: press once for note "on" and again for same note "off". Hope this helps...

      @@BertBouwhuis-BB Thanks for taking the time to respond.

    So you have a version with fade in/out.
    And no instructions.
    It doesn’t work.
    Wasted hours.
    Super 8 loops often have unacceptable clicks. Thought your plug-in might solve that.
    If it does, it’s not obvious.
