- ŠKODA AUTO India has christened its midsized SUV, the first vehicle designed and developed under the purview of the 'INDIA 2.0' project, as the 'ŠKODA KUSHAQ'. The naming nomenclature derives its origin from an ancient language of the INDIAN subcontinent, Sanskrit, and the word 'KUSHAK' denotes 'KING' or 'EMPEROR'. In its stance, and mannerism, the powerful new ŠKODA KUSHAQ personifies its moniker, and at the same time, reflects upon its 125 years of rich history and heritage. Skoda can name its products as it likes. But it is absurd, ill conceived and little-learned to name its products in Sanskrit and portray this name Kushaq as depicting Indian culture. Hence, those Indian like me having admirable, enviable ethos should consider twice before buying this car.
My humble opinion is that Skoda should have elicited the views of Indian masses, if it had truly wanted to name its products in such a way as to truly reflect the cultural diversity of India. Or should have distanced itself from cultural controversy

Skoda Kushaq. Nice name. Hope it’s at price point of creta or seltos and market will be ruled by Skoda. To rule, price is very important else it will sell like others as below 1k every month whereas segment leaders sell at 6 to 8k cars a month. If launched at lower price than those then it would disrupt the market killing all other segments too and production plants need to be added... so Skoda has to decide....

It is a welcome thing that European car maker has decided to give their product an Indian name, drawn from Sanskrit language one of the 22 constitutionally recognised and classical language.
It is very pitiably deficient mind on their part in the depiction of diverse and multi culture of India by adopting single language.
Those who subscribe to their view that Sanskrit represents the diversity of Indian culture can go for it.
