  • In this segment, the 2nd style of Valknut or Odin's Triangle is illustrated. Which, instead of being a single line interlace it has three triangles which seem to be linked. Mathematically it is like a Borromean ring en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borromea.... Many cultures attribute the number 3 with a special meaning. As a triangle it is efficient strength. In nature it is a reflection of the moon, who is full for three day & new for 3 days yet is a different crescent between. It is also a reflection of the solstice sun whose position rises and sets at the same spot on the horizon for three days each winter and summer. To the Vikings and Celts it may be the human spirit in it's three cycles birth, Life and Death. Practice drawing it 100 times and you will memorize it. Great method. I've always just drawn a triskele for starters, and then added "the rest". Way easier to get it more symmetrical this way. Cool.

I’m not sure why but I found it confusing, it is not exactly as pic on the left. The confusing part is halfway through I could see it wasn’t the same however good design.

Is there a timeline or regional difference for the celtic drawings that are more like "curvy" rope drawings, and these that are more "boxy" straight line drawings. It's almost like the difference between calligraphy and printing letters.

Yes. I am working on an essay right now about the Origin of Celtic Interlace. In a few words. Celtic interlace arose in the late 6th century when Columba was converting the Picts to Christianity. It became more and more complex by the 8th Century with the Book of Kells. After the Viking Age began Celtic Interlace did not progress, however the Vikings did take the designs home with them and utilize it in Gotland especially.

From what I've read, its either a Warriors Heart or a Giant (strength) Heart. On the Kirk standing stone artifacts in Gotland Sweden it's usually beside Odin and Sleipnir. Look up Alaskog stone and you'll see it.
