Set in 1990s Japan, Malcolm Lee has been developing another AI system that is intended to compete with Skynet. As Judgment Day approaches in 1997, Lee finds himself and his three children pursued by an unknown robot assassin, and a mysterious soldier from the year 2022 has been sent to protect him.

I never thought that after 4 failures in cinema we would see a good Terminator story at least in animation... The anime was very good and deserves a continuation.
As someone who was Terminatored out Terminator Zero was definitely a refreshing and interesting take on the franchise. I enjoyed it.
As soon as I saw Edgerunners, I thought to myself " I wish Terminator could be done in this way"
Now it's here, and I couldn't be happier at the great reception.
i haven't watched it yet but now that you mention Edgerunners, I definitely need to watch this now
@@LosingMyMind13 Its surprisingly great. I don't have any connection to cyberpunk, so I didn't have any expectations. But Netflix has been pumping out great animated stuff.
Yeah I thought the same about Borderlands
@@c.christopher6115 OH God Borderlands would make a sick anime
Edgerunners and terminator zero are only anime shows i watched lmao 😂
Getting another person to do the Japanese portion of the anime is appreciated 👍🏽
It's weird to hear someone say they don't like anime and now the medium brought you the best Terminator since Judgment Day but for us fans, it's just Tuesday.
Yeehaw!! Very good time talking with ya Sean!
I love the time travel concept in the anime where going to the past doesn’t change their future but adds a new time line but different
In this story beat it explains to the audience that it isn’t erasing the past films. You can consider the end of Terminator 2 as its own timeline. You can consider the ending of Terminator 3 as its own timeline, and so on. It honestly was the smartest part to explain to fans that no one is wrong. Depending on where the story ends for you, that can be your own chronological timeline.
@@JoeGrizz1yit's also means the latest movie crapping over the first two films can be ignored which is nice
Assuming you aren't just ignoring it anyway for being rubbish.
Yeah I liked that idea that skynet didn't really know what they were doing and just kept sending terminators into the past not knowing this wouldn't actually affect the present. I found that neat.
Let’s hope this starts Sean’s anime arc 🙏 Please watch Attack On Titan🙏
Liam and Chloe (his kids) have seen it
Yes please God. But really watch it. Don't think it's just for your son.
Ending ruins the entire show. Took ten years to fumble the bag in the last few episodes
@@paradox4780 I thought it was perfect
My suggestion would be:Go go loser rangers since he has watched the Boys
Just watched and gotta say this is better than every terminator movie aside from 1 and 2. So complex and deep. Need season 2 NOW.
Really excited to check this out when I can! Terminator and anime is a combo I never saw coming but absolutely love. Your points on how it tackled the mythology and it being separate from the Connor family is exactly what actually makes me more curious and more hyped for it 🔥
I love how the episodes are titled Model 101, 102, etc
John Connor has a father. His name is Kyle Reece

It was unexpectedly so entertaining just like kaiju no. 8
@@shababalam2900the fact that kaiju no.8 and terminator zero are animated by the same studio, damn
As a Japanese, I would like to ask you, what do people from overseas who have given low ratings think is wrong?
@@hawsofang I don't know!
I think it was a very fresh and intriguing take on The Terminator. The Terminator (sent back) itself was truly epic and unexpectedly was something I'd never thought I'd love!
I had just finished it last night and I enjoyed the hell out of it. I really thoroughly had a blast watching it. The story writing was so good and these characters, I actually cared for them
I can feel sean reaching out like "help me, make me interested in anime, i want to be interested" but this guy didnt totally do anime justice with his words imo
when you said sean i thought you are talking about goku's voice actor.
‘Doesn’t hold back his punches’ like the way the terminator held back when punching eikos back countless times 😂
I really appreciated the part where they actually explained what happens when someone uses time travel.
It appears that whenever someone does, you are literally transported to another timeline. Which is far better than what goes after Terminator 1 and 2 did.
In this story beat it explains to the audience that it isn’t erasing the past films. You can consider the end of Terminator 2 as its own timeline. You can consider the ending of Terminator 3 as its own timeline, and so on. It honestly was the smartest part to explain to fans that no one is wrong. This adaptation of anime for the Terminator IP is the most faithful I've seen. The way they explained time travel and the lore is on par with the franchise. The twist, the soundtrack, the voice acting, and the animation are superb. A few nitpicks are that some events or behaviors of some characters don't make sense but only work to move the plot forward. Also, Eiko fighting a Terminator hand-to-hand and getting punched multiple times in the back and surviving... that's a little too much plot armor. Despite these flaws, I believe this is worth watching. 8/10.
Everything Sean said he likes about this show is the reason most anime lovers love anime....I feel most people who aren't into anime just haven't found their genre and they assume it's all the same
Exactly. I use to think anime was all cutsy and fanservice but then I saw Attack on Titan and that changed my entire perspective
@lorddoma6637 "This is the way", I'm glad you found your niche 🤗
Love the 1st 2 films & The Sarah Connor chronicles. As someone who also grew up with alot of eastern stuff, I really love Terminator zero. Great on it's own + makes a nice companion to Vivy: Fluorite eye's song. Another sci fi anime with a similar concept but differently executed.
the soundtrack to this show was so amazing
I loved it, better than the last 2 films for me. A mix of that 90s anime vs enjoyable high-end 3D graphics as well.
Ghost in the Shell + T1/T2 vibes + a much more complex set of characters and sides. A lot more sci-fi depth
I’m not into anime but the horror and gore was excellent got the scary vibe of the first film very well done
You're missing out on some very mature anime my friend
@@lorddoma6637 only shonen jump anime are trash.
I was hesitant but gotta say, im craving a season 2 already. My own downside was the Terminator in the last episode speaking with its mouth wide open instead of just having it shut
I'm really late to this party. But I was curious about what other people thought of this. I'm glad it seems to be generally well-received. I personally haven't watched a Terminator film since 1 and 2. But I grew up with anime so this piqued my interest. And I like it. Malcolm and Kokoro are the highlight for me. They were interesting right from the get-go. But after a certain revelation, my investment in those two just sky-rocketed.
I didn't think a human and an AI just shutting themselves inside a room and just talking would be something this interesting to me. Especially when I thought I just came here for some Terminator action. You could tell that Kokoro is a highly-powerful and intelligent AI. So there's always been an underlying fear we feel when we see Malcolm talking to her. But at the same time, she seems very... curious and more open-minded as an AI. Which made her much more interesting than a simple "kill all humans" one.
This tv series was so refreshing, i'm completely fed up with Connors.🎉
Probably by far the most philosophical version of the Terminator franchise, even more than Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Not an anime person either Sean 😅. But I love t1 and t2 and I may have to give it a go.
You're missing out. Ther are many great anime shows out there
Me and my wife had to insist to view all episodes, to us all the conversation with the new IA to convince why fight against Skynet really annoyed us, but anyway, we love terminator, waiting to see the next season coming.. thanks for the video!
This guy is why I feel the need to be a closeted anime fan.
Gotta be honest, I only knew Leo from Twitter and this is NOT how I imagined him sounding lmfao
You should watch attack on titan or death note next. Those are probably the perfect anime to watch if you don't like anime
The gore, I love it. We know from lore just how powerful terminators are & we finally get to see it. Exactly like putting your hand under a hydraulic press, you're gonna get crushed.
FINALLY.....I been waiting for sooo long man.....a good entry in the TERMINATOR FRANCHISE. it have to come from Japan XD, seriously I have low expectations, I go into expecting at least cool action and blood, as I really after T2 the philosophical existentialist thought provoking side of the franchise WENT SLEEP.......so I assume this was just going to be a simple action anime about ANOTHER TIME TRAVELER KILLING ROBOT nothing special..............and BOOM, mind melted man.....yes it have that element but man I adore what this show did, subverting our expectations but in GOOD WAY as it should (take some notes DISNEY), I love the ideas this show put in the table man, is so interesting, I can watch and analyze this for years, is what I wanted for so long, the animation was beautiful, love all the characters, the TERMINATOR was SCARY, man is been so long since a T-800 act like a villain and was allow to murdering indiscriminately, so well done, the main protagonist are super intersting, specially Mizaki, what they did with her, man ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE CHARACTER, if this show gets a season 2, count me in day 1, finally a GOOD TERMINATOR, is been SO LONG 😭
Not an anime fan but I did enjoy Star Wars visions and cyberpunk edgerunners and enjoyed both so I’m excited to see this
You'll become one eventually 😊
The more you watch the bigger anime fan you will become. I recommend you watch Attack on Titan next. You'll thank me.
@@lorddoma6637and Vinland Saga
I'm so excited to hopefully watch this tonight.
I finished it awhile ago I really really hope this show gets a s2 like I’m serious it’s great it returns to form what made terminator so good in the first place all the twist and turns we’re a delight even if a person isn’t a anime fan or big on it like I am i enjoyed it for what it was . In a show about a killing machine from the far future ya can’t have it like the movies where it’s just efficient 4 example the prologue in the anime dark grimy etc but of course eiko has plot armor it moves the story forward as a whole . Anywho I hope this show gets a s2 Matt Tomlin said on Twitter he had scripts for multiple seasons if it’s watched good for itself . Also I’m a fan of the movies I love the first 2 the the 2 after are guilty pleasures I hate the last two lol . So I’m surprised i liked this anime more than all 4 of those . Of course the Goat 🐐 will always for me personally be Terminator one in my opinion then the second film .
I borderline loved it. It provides such a great way to explore the universe without Connor and the model 101, aka Arnold.
They have to figure out how to tell the story without Arnold, and this was it.
I actually really liked the Sarah Connor chronicles because they figured out a way to tell a great story, to me, but I guess others didn’t feel that way.
This should open up some live action stuff. People have to understand Arnold is just the model 101….there are so many other models of terminator, over the t-800 endoskeleton.
There are other stories to be told across the whole world that has to deal with judgement day… it’s almost like the original Star Wars trilogy and the Skywalker in a sense…
Love this collab!
I wish he could see the magic in anime shows.
I mean he openly states his opinion on anime as a whole so you’re getting a review from an outsiders perspective which can be helpful.
Some people enjoy things, others don’t, that’s all 🤷♂️
@@talapantedtoad6461That's even better cause then we would get an outsiders perspective on popular anime shows
You shud check out Drinker's review for Attack on Titan
I mean if you review an anime the same way you review a live action movie is rarely going to work out. Which is what hes doing here.
I honestly loved the show, watched it in original form and going to rewatch it in English lol
Somehow I went in with zero expectations. By then end, I kind of fell in love with the story and its expanded lore it added into the terminator franchise. It is a lot more respectful to the franchise, when compared to the later reboot entries. I love how it brought back the conversation of humanity and their back and forth existence with A.I. it doesn’t erase the Sarah/John Conner story. That story is still happening at the same time this TV series is taking place, but they explain it as its own paradox existence. Judgement day is a part of fate and will always be inevitable, but some humans may be able to find a loophole to somehow co-exist or survive. I like how it pays homage in many sequences. Using ideas from almost all franchise films. It definitely is using some “CREATIVE INBREEDING”, but in the right way. I love how it leaves the viewer pondering a bit, and also has you sort of re-evaluating some aspects of the original films. The biggest praise I can give the series is that it is the best storytelling since the first two original films. I think the only negative I can give the show is that it starts a little slow and too wide. By episode 3, the mystery kicks in and the story starts to push the gas pedal. Overall, it is a solid 8/10 and I would recommend to Terminator fans. I would also not mind a season 2 if the creators can come up with something as smart as this season.
I think you can tell a LOT of stories outside the Connors. Marcus' story, from Salvation", I really dug it. I think that one could still work without tying (?) to John Connor.
And yes, dude, watch "Akira", "Ghost in the Shell", try a Gundam season (Iron Blooded Orphans or Witch from Mercury), Hm..there is so much to pick from. And you got lots of options that arent gory too.
Slice of life animes can be so much fun and heartwarming. :D
Sean would love ghost in the shell and akira. Absolutely, his vibe
Good show, I binged it today.
I am a fan of both anime and Terminator. I felt that whenever it was focused on the Terminator, they did some great things. Especially the fact that it was in Japan was very cool, especially with the weapons restrictions. But I felt bored a LOT of the time. The pacing was uneven to me. Sometimes it felt like a chore to watch. But that's me. Super happy you guys liked it! To each their own.
What I liked about Zero is that unlike any other piece of Terminator media, that merely rehashed the same ideas of the first two movies, Zero actually introduced a few new ideas. Like trying to create a new AI to pit against Skynet. That seems so obvious that you gotta wonder why no one tried this idea before in a movie or something. And they make it make sense too. By developing an AI using a different approach than how Skynet was created, they can create an AI that wouldn't be hostile towards humanity. That actually makes a lot of sense and I really liked it.
I was glad they did other stuff, the terminator is pretty much done to death at this point so seeing new ideas and discussions was interesting to me.
They made it way more than the terminator chases target, resistance fighter protects them.
Watch One Punch Man next. Superheroes plus anime.
As this show was short I did watch it subtitled and then Dubbed. As far as anime goes - the dubbed was fine, but as per usual it does eliminate SOME of the emotional scenes a tiny bit just with the nature of the OTT Japanese voice actors that give it everything
Newsflash! Cameron is King - still.
It’s amazing. Just as good as EdgeRunner. Of course I like anime. But only darker ones. So this is perfect for me
Same. Im a dark fantasy anime guy
The most Terminator thing after T2.
I enjoyed the series because its Terminator! BUT with that said I thought it was terribly done. Turning it into a japanese anime was not immersive to me. It completely takes such a good opportunity to finally show fans everything we wanted to see and where this story could go and they kind of trashed it! Malcolm was the only interesting part of the story and only character i was invested in. I am a huge Terminator fan and i felt like this show was someone who just took everything and twisted it up into their own version and this was the end result! A lot of amazing cuts in the video editing, but other than that nothing else! I am sorry to leave this review lol but this show was a huge let down!
We need the game now
Anime is Art. This series was a bit slow, and kinda meandering, but overall a solid show. 7 out of 10. You should check out some more Anime there's a wide variety of genres and series. Some good, some bad, some ugly.
Terminator Zero (2024) made me happy to be a Terminator Fan again.
It was honestly a breath of fresh and great to finally see Mattson Tomlin (the screenplay writer), Production I. G. and Netflix doing something different with the Terminator Franchise in terms of a story.
A new story built on the Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) terrific premise that follows new characters, goes in new directions, and serves a different purpose.
Finally no John Connor, no Sarah Connor, no Kyle Reese and NO Arnold Schwarznegger's T-800 Terminator.
Visually it is a treat, borderline movie quality with a fire soundtrack too.
Terminator Zero (2024) is EASILY better than everything made after T2 (haven't played the Terminator Resistance Game yet).
Aside from the terminator having terrible aim in the first episode and 6 min, everything else was awesome. One twist makes things very complicated though.
It became a chore to watch by episode 5 and just gave up.
It was the opposite for me
I keep trying to watch this before bed and I’ve fallen asleep on it 4 times on 4 separate nights.
The pacing is poor
Im not in to reckless kids just running off doing the silliest things they could do / live action or animated
Maybe I’m just getting old but man I could not stay awake past 2 episodes at a time. Love terminator and anime.
The constant philosophical moments really started off interesting then it would become these long exposition stretches and bring the pacing for me right to a halt.
So I won’t be returning to this. I gave it an honest try.
Zero is the best thing with terminator since 2. I did enjoy 3 and salvation to a point, I thought Worthington and Bale were the best parts of Salvation. The lore needed to get away from the connor story line and hopefully future seasons fully gives us the future war proper. Best Netflix anime since edgerunners, nocturne s1 wasn't bad, just missed a few of the things that made the original series so great
Whoa! Amazing to see Leo on here. What a collab!
I expected a lot more. The anime is boring as hell, with a confuse storyline that leads nowhere. 3 out of 10 at best.
Glad to hear this show is really good! I almost didn't dare hope for much. Between this and the underrated Terminator Resistance game, it's nice to be seeing some good stuff from the franchise after Genesys and Dark Fate kinda soiled the bed with the franchise.
It looks amazing!
Im not a big fan neither of anime and terminater and i still had a great time watching the show.
Wow, Sean watched an Anime! Crazy! You should try Hunter X Hunter. One of my favourite shows ever and I introduced it to some non anime people and they all liked it
Unfortunately I don’t think Sean will ever enjoy any of the really goated series 😭 at least he liked this one we’ll have to live happily with that.

Ever thought how at the end the terminator said “I am not able to self terminate” which humans are… you know … the whole point is how it showcase how humans are self destructive either to themselves and to others. Now the question is yeah in the other movies where it shows it does self terminate but it some how learns of the terminology to sacrifice itself for a greater purpose… fuck this Anime made me think A LOT 🤣🤣
I will just speak to the action. For an anime the anime action logic was toned down a lot.
I came in expecting the show to realistically portray Terminator combat and it usually did. But I still was aggravated in 3 specific moments.
All I can say is that after watching the entire series I was ale to enjoy those seemingly weak moments in action a lot better.
This show will test your patience in general but the writing is strong enough to reward that patience and may even make it worth rewatching again if you have the spare time.
A lot better then recent movie
Man I loved this, 10/10 imo. I think they nailed every aspect.
I really don't like Anime but it did kinda benefit this series and story. All the terminator stuff was seriously good and interesting
You're missing out
@@lorddoma6637well you are only missing out if you enjoy it. If someone has tried anime and didn't enjoy it watching more isn't missing out.
I’m conflicted, I like the way they went with the story and lore, don’t care for those 3 kids, way too much time spent with them.
The sound effects ruined most action scenes for me though. Guns sound like BB guns, way too quiet (and no, I’m not playing 5.1 on 2 speakers) and no reverb, there’s music in in scenes where it does not belong and no music where some ambient music would helped to hide the lack of ambient sounds. Feels very unfinished and riddled with placeholders. There’s a few scenes where the CG animation (or just a cutout of a motorcycle rotation on its axis South Park style) doesn’t work. I assume the release date was fixed and they would just have needed a week or two to address these little things.
i love terminator, but i honestly cant stand anime so i havent watched yet
I watched the anine and I like the plot for what the studio went for but I wish the studio just dropped the time travel thing. We have seen it in all movies except Terminator Salvation. I would have liked it if the anime plot took place in just the future war. Im a Terminator fan since the 80's and I dont like the idea that everytime a person goes back in time that a new time line is created. It doesn't align with the first two terminator movies that are in my opinion the only canon movies in the franchise.
10/10 ❤

Is this cannon in the terminator universe?
Since it's a standalone series.....you can pretty much directly watch it. And yes, it may be cannon to the first 2 movies
Yes
Very. It nods the rest of movies & lore. They now dubbed the constant time travelling as the "time war".
Every Terminator movie is canon as every Terminator movie takes place in its own timeline. The minute someone travels back in time a new timeline is created.
This series was so bad.
1.5/10 music was decent, and the visuals were good.
The series wasn't objectively bad.
Just say that you didnt like it
@vaibhavbhattacharyya2922 I didn't say it was objectively bad. My comment was an expression of my own opinion. Just saying "It was so bad" saves a lot of time compared to: "In my opinion, which isn't objective, but merely subjective, this series was so bad"
@@dolanpls3330 Did ya like the last 2 movies?
@@dolanpls3330it's not that bad it has its flaws sure but compared to Dark Fate and Genysis Its fun and I like Animes and it tried something different without touching John Connors story at all which I appreciate
@johnnyarcade6464 I liked the fight scenes. The future war scene from Genysis was the best part of that movie, and I wish that was the entirety of it. T3 was meh, and I liked a lot about Salvation. Marcus' character was actually cool, and the way they portrayed the T-800 as an unstoppable threat(unlike zero) was very, very good.
Ok, ok, we get it you don't like Anime.
After 4 mostly boring episodes, I am disappointed. Terminator itself was BORING! Too kiddie crap like most anime. How about something more fresh? Gee, sending more than one Terminator would be interesting. A waste of Japanese anime concepts.
This was a kiddie anime? Lol
Kiddie? Bruh, we see the T800s litterly crush people's windpipe, cave people's skulls in. It goes into very gory detail.
This show ain't for kids, it's the most violent we seen since T1.
Chatbot gpt everywhere
It's pretty awful. Nonsense storyline. Femine-centred in a really forced way. Boss girls aplenty. Magic physics. Meandering. Boring.
There are worse things to watch but this is not particularly good.
Loved T1 &T2. The films since then have been a waste of money. Anime can be much better than this
4/10 stars… the series was ok but felt very juvenile, specially the scenes with the kids. It’s annoying to see Anime shows are getting softer and softer as time goes by. I wish they could just stay consistent with the storyline and the vibe of the show, rather than creating these so called ‘heart felt moments’ between the kids… it’s frustrating, boring and doesn’t have anything to do with moving the story forward -it’s just a filler. An example, a Netflix show called Arcane was an absolute banger and stayed consistent the whole way through each episode and felt relatable in those emotional moments because that’s what the show was about, two sisters in conflict of each other. The dynamic felt organic. But in this series it feels kinda, fake… almost disingenuous which cheapens the feeling of the show and also feels unnecessary. Again, as I said before there’s a difference between building tension and building suspense.. one is irritating and the other is dramatic.. totally 2 different feelings.
Anyways… Just my opinion.
Is this cannon?
Yes
