  • This was a super fun trip to Bird Creek, just outside of Anchorage, Alaska. Bird Creek is a popular spot to fish near Anchorage, but despite the fishing pressure, there's opportunity for everyone to catch fish due to the crazy high numbers of salmon that run up the creek!! In this video, I fly fished for Pink Salmon, and caught them on Black Wooly Buggers, Purple/Pink Heavy Beadhead Flies, and Pink Jigs. I used my 8 wt fly rod (in case I ran into the occasional Silver Salmon that swims up this creek), but a 6 wt fly rod would have been doable with these pink salmon. I used straight 20 lb test fluorocarbon as my leader.
    If you are visiting Alaska and planning on hitting the Kenai, Kasilof, or other rivers/creeks for salmon, consider a quick stop at Bird Creek as well!

    Great job, Kevin! So appreciated seeing the fishing spots in relationship to each other and Anchorage. Watched so intensely that I forgot to "like" and comment first time! ❤

    You have had an epic trip, Kevin. I like that you went on the opposite side of the river as most everyone else. I guess, for Alaska that many people in one place would make that "Alaskan Urban fishing." 😛

    • @KevinRapkochFishing
      @KevinRapkochFishing  Рік тому +1

      Haha, exactly... I would also consider this "Alaska Urban Fishing". Yeah, I just need a bit of space to do my thing when fishing, haha! This was a pretty awesome trip, but it's good to be home in AZ! 🙂🙂✌️🎣

    I’ll be heading up to Alaska from Arizona in a week looking for pinks and silvers on the fly as well. Looks awesome

    • @KevinRapkochFishing
      @KevinRapkochFishing  Рік тому +2

      Heck yeah!! Bird Creek should have some silvers in it. The Kenai around Soldotna might be warming up with Silvers by then too; Heck, Campbell Creek right in Anchorage might have some Silvers running too! We just got home to AZ after almost a month in Alaska - it was awesome! 🙂✌️🎣

      Hey Eduardo! Yeah, Bird Creek is pretty close to Anchorage, and definitely gets some fishing crowds when the salmon swim up it July through September! Hope you are doing well, my friend!! 🙂✌️🎣

    With no strike indicator how do you know you have a fish on? Just give it a tug whenever you feel some tension on the line?

    • @KevinRapkochFishing
      @KevinRapkochFishing  3 місяці тому +1

      I use good polarized glasses and am either watching the fish strike, or watching for a "tick" on the end of my fly line. Once you get used to how a strike does a slight tug/tick on your line, you can set the hook when you see the end of your fly line (the floating line that connects to your leader/tippet) do that tick! 🤙🤙🤙✌️🎣

    • @KevinRapkochFishing
      @KevinRapkochFishing  3 місяці тому +1

      But yes, also what you said... If I didn't notice a strike, but feel a hit, I'm definitely setting the hook! 🤙✌️🎣
